I think Spurs are the perfect example of how a football club should be run when you don't have oil money or the Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Madrid, Barcelona etc brand/ fan base. I'm a neutral, i don't support any team in the premier league however Spurs have done such a great job in competing with football clubs that have billions of quid at their disposal. Take Man City for example, they can year in year out sign the very best backroom staff, sign the very best head coach and lastly hire the absolute best players. When you have a team with such riches it's near impossible for the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United to compete let alone Spurs. Spurs have always had fantastic players but just short of rival squads. I feel Spurs will eventually have an opportunity to win the title, it will take Pep stepping down from Man City, Liverpool having an off season and massive amounts of luck where player injuries are concerned.

When Levy took over we were proper mid table now we are in the big 6 with the stadium and the training ground and have had many opportunities to win trophies which is really all we can ask of the chairman. Looking at the owners of other prem or championship clubs, there aren't many who have a better business record than levy. He on the whole, has done his job. I think it's important to remember *why* someone supports a club; it's because you have an emotional connection to everything surrounding that club, and find it as something that adds to your daily life. I've been a Tottenham fan since 2012 - actually became a fan through Bale and FIFA 12 on WII (it's true, lol) - and it's been one of the best decisions of my life, even if it was random through a video game. As I found myself exploring the club and being part of the journey over the past 10 years, I can genuinly say it's been amazing. Most people don't support a club because of trophies - it's an emotional connection and family, really. And for me it just clicked, and that's all I can ask for. Plus, it's fun to have an uphill battle because it will make the inevitable success so much sweeter. You want something to root for along with your peers, and even when the team struggles you never doubt where your heart is - the club is part of your life.
Football is beautiful and I hope that everybody can find *their* club and experience a lifetime supporting that club.
Oh, and cheers to Ange, because we really do have something cooking now - it's so much fun to be a part of. And hey, even cheers to Levy, because the growth this club has seen over the past 20 years is frankly unlike any other (and with no sports washing involved, I am proud of that and our values as a club).

If you take the League Cup out the equation (which is a pointless competition now), since 2000 here are the following clubs that have won trophies: Man United, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester, Portsmouth and Wigan….thats it. You could argue the latter two were just freak results too. Its the same story in most of the top leagues since the money took hold.
Tottenham are essentially the biggest out of dozens of clubs who have played in the Prem since then who have not won trophies. Despite there being five clubs with significantly bigger resources than them, they have come runners-up in both the Premier League and Champions League in the last few years. Success will always be relative to the resources you have and Spurs have done pretty well to be in the top 4 as many times as they have. That said under Poch they probably ‘should’ have won something.

As a Spurs fan it's been tough supporting them all my life (I'm 27 now) years and years of disappointment and what's frustrating about it as a fan is that it isn't our fault. Like we never asked for this who would? It's hard to pinpoint one exact problem as to why we haven't been successful for so long. In recent times I think a lot of it is how we have acted as a football club. Someone once said "Spurs are a great business, but not a great football team" alluding to how off the pitch the club is run very well. Credit to Daniel Levy on that. But on the pitch we suffer because we don't act like a big club. When other teams spend 60mil on players we stay in the market for around 30mil. It's this lack of ambition that frustrates a lot of our fans the most. If you want to be successful you have to start acting like it. Another factor is that we have also been incredibly unlucky too

Look at how the phrase “Classic city” has disappeared and now even when they have a poor start everybody expects them to turn things around and win everything. Tottenham just has to stop being so impatient with winnings things immediately and trust a process, which is exactly what they appear to be doing now but we’ll have to wait and see

A lot of it had been due to a lack of ambition. Either top 4 was the main target, which neglected performances in cup competitions (not all the time but on occasion.)
Or we didn't really improve the squad. We were actually doing so well in the 11/12 season, if the club brought in some strong reinforcements, Spurs could have been competing for the title. Instead, Ryan Nielsen and an ageing Louis Saha came in, dropped to 4th and didnt even get UCL (year Chelsea won the comp and snatched it from us.)
18/19 season was where we made 0 signings. Had a good start, but a lack of good squad depth meant our performances deteriorated toward the end of the season. UCL run happened because some players really stepped up, as well as Poch. But the final against Liverpool, as annoying as the pen decision was, showed that we were nowhere near good enough, to a point where Liverpool didnt even need to go out of first gear.
Overall, the club were not ambitious enough, they made mistakes or the team didnt take a competition seriously. Its painful to see a club like West Ham, who took the UECL seriously and won it, where as we couldnt even get out of the group stage.

I think an issue has been bringing in these big managers like Mourinho and Conte ended up taking the cup competitions lightly, for example last season Conte played our entire second team and some youth vs. Sheffield. Fact is last season our second team was awful, and we shouldve had at least a few good players that game. But no, an entire team of rusty b team was rolled out against the team that ended up getting promoted at the end of the season. To be fair to Mourinho, he got to the carabao final and was sacked two days before it 😭 Anyways we have big Ange now so all is well
PS. The first time we won the league back in the day we did the double... fa cup and league are on this season 👀👀

We reached the final and sold players instead and brought in more dead wood. We had basically one of the 2 best attackers and finishers in the world and we couldn’t build a team around them. Our owners kept letting us down for the past 21-23 yrs they’ve been in charge. We’ve been close and we’ll keep getting close but if we don’t bring in the right people then close is all we’ll ever get.

13:45 I don't completely agree with this justification that Jose or Conte would not bring about a change for the future of the club.
Yes, they may have only been appointed for short term goals, but isn't that exactly what Tottenham have been after? They tried the "build a team for the future" approach with Poch, and eventually after the lost CL final, that all came crumbling down. Why? Because imo, you build something for the future in order to at the end of the day, win something. The eventual goal is the same - to win something, whether you take 5 years to build your squad or 1 year.
Mind you, when Jose was brought to Chelsea the first time, Chelsea hadn't won a league in 55 years. He came, won the very first season, and bam, all of a sudden the entire mood around Stamford Bridge changed. Chelsea were suddenly in contention for all competitions, suddenly teams around them started thinking of them differently.
The "it's only Tottenham" bit will always exist as long as they don't win anything. Add to that, after all these failed attempts, you had a club captain who was openly recorded saying "we don't win anything" - yep, that's the Tottenham mentality right there
Basically, I think any, absolutely any major trophy win for Spurs might have done them a world of good and helped change how the club is viewed - rather than being the team that challenged Leicester in that one season. And as a result, sacking Jose days before the final was criminal and I'm glad they haven't come close to sniffing a trophy anytime after that
    Tinpot club mentality.

As a Spurs fan, I don't really care. I'm young enough that I wasn't even a football fan when we last won a trophy. You bring up examples of outsiders winning trophies but is that really the case? It's been a decade since a team outside the big six won the league cup and besides Leicester in 2021 the same is true for the FA cup. In the premier league there have only been 2 seasons where none big 6 clubs won the premier league. And the UCL hasn't had a "shock" winner since 2004's Porto. I don't want my club to be involved in the continuing "money is all that matters" idea in football. My team have given me some amazing moments during the Pochettino era and I'm pretty sure I'll get the same under Ange, and that is all I can ask for. Only 2 English trophies of the last 30 have gone to a none big 6 club, I think that is more of a concern than Tottenham's 15 years of no trophy. I admit I can be a hypocrite because I admit I would probably still celebrate if we won something while being owned by a foreign state but I would prefer to win less while knowing it came from playing well and not just throwing money about.

As a Liverpool fan I would agree that the penalty in the Champions League final was, to put it mildly, lucky for Liverpool. Also Spurs were the better team overall. However it just underlined Spurs ability to self destruct. Like Man U now, when you have a repeating pattern over years, with different owners, players and managers it’s very difficult to identify the reason(s). Relatively poor Liverpool sides have won trophies and the same with Man U. Underdogs have beaten clear favourites in cup finals but even when Spurs get close, they can’t seem to actually win. I suspect that if they do actually win a trophy things might change because that belief will come but in the meantime the level of belief needed just doesn’t seem to be there perhaps because the desperation and expectations of the supporters overwhelms the team. The Man Us of this world still expect to win, the Leicesters don’t have the weight of fan expectations. Spurs have the worst of both worlds and haven’t quite had a strong enough squad to overcome it.

Conte ball was truly one of the most boring thing to watch, right after nuno, conte’s first season was actually nice, especially the race for top4 that year. It just fell apart last season. I think Harry leaving will be a major turning point in the club, solely relied on him to score, Maddison and Sonny link a pretty good partnership. Who knows, if we stay injury free with some luck,we might get a cheeky chance at silverware soon
