I don't know about others. I, for one, dont feel like it was critical that she look just like the video game character. But I find she lacks charisma in the role. Her performance just seems very amateurish compared to some really solid performances from others in the show. It always seems lazy to me when actors don't put an effort in to get accents right.

When naughty dog first announced that Bella Ramsey was going to play Ellie in The last of Us TV so many people were hating saying that she's not right for that job as Ellie. @@lllucasmyou can produce this sound by bending your tongue really flat to make a softer click. It’s not a hard click like some xhosa words but it’s very doable if you already know how to produce a click with your mouth.

Loved her in GoT and love her performance even more in TLOU. She has some great talent at quite different roles. Could another have played Ellie? Yeah. But with their cast for Joel, I’m glad they chose her. Her and Pedro have some great chemistry and make beautiful work together.

People mad she doesn’t look like a video game character that was based off Elliot Page pre-transition. Even Ellie doesn’t look like Ellie anymore in the real world. Only the 2011 version of Ellie looked like Elliot Page. The design was then changed so that Ellie resembled Ashley Johnson, Ellie's actor. Look up a picture of her when she was younger.
So naturally, going into Part 2, Ellie resembled Ashley Johnson even more.
