    The Hobbit used almost all CGI… LOTR used practical effects, miniatures, and real sets which is why it has visually held up over time. The behind the making of documentaries are mind blowing and worth checking out.

      -miniatures- BIGATURES ... the models were several stories tall, which allowed them to have a large amount of details and it allowed them to make "camera flythroughs" to use as the basis for adding CGI (creatures and fires) ... and by limiting the amount of CGI, which means they could do a really high quality job on it.

    In case you didn't know Elves live forever. They don't ever die because of old age or disease. The only way is Elves can die is either by fading or being killed in battle.

    At 20:40, the ill-fitting chain mail is kind of a gratuitous sight-gag that we don't see later on in the movie. In the book, Gimli has his own chain mail, which being Dwarf made, is much better quality than anything the Rohirrim have. He does borrow a helmet and a shield from them, though.

    At 17:08 say, "Ooh, this place look nice though." In the book, the battle works differently, and Gimli is swept by the fighting into the caves. After the battle he describes them to Legolas in one of the most lyrical passages in LOTR, not what you would expect from the dour Dwarf. In after years Gimli led some of his people there, and he became the Lord of the Glittering Caves of Aglarond.

    Remember Éowyn is in her early 20s and Aragorn is at the time of this battle 88. Besides he is betrothed to Arwen the daughter of Elrond and the granddaughter of Galadriel and a man who is honorable and who keeps his word, besides which, while not portrayed in the movie but is in the book, he is accompanied by Arwen's older brothers Elladan and Elrohir, with whom he had a long association as Chieftain of the Dúnedain especially in the guarding of the borders of the Shire. While Éowyn is clearly infatuated with him, she barely knows him and is going through a really strong crush, which Aragorn is clearly respectful of while recognizing her attachment to him.

    • @AmariMorris
      @AmariMorris  Před 4 měsíci +3

      Ahh ok really big age gaps for sure and I could tell she was feeling something towards him and yeah you can see Aragorn is uninterested lol but that’s pretty cool I wonder why they decided not to include the brothers🤔

    • @Muck006
      @Muck006 Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yeah ... it's not like today ... where guys will "bed" every girl that would allow them.
      The thing Eowyn wants ... is GLORY ... she is basically a FEMINIST desiring a "man's job". She does get a husband in the end though (Faramir) ... which isnt in the movies, so ... not really a spoiler.

    At 8:23, this scene was cut from the Theatrical version of the movie, and it is the principal reason why Tolkien fans prefer the Extended version, as it explains most of Boromir's actions in FOTR. There is a similar scene that was cut from ROTK early on; you'll recognize it when you see it.

    • @AmariMorris
      @AmariMorris  Před 4 měsíci

      Yeah it makes sense now lol. This is why Im definitely glad I watched the extended thanks to the comments lol. I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t cause there’s so many valuable scenes/information😂

    I love how they cut the slow boring Ent scenes with the battle scenes. You really feel pippin's stress when they speak so slowly, because you can see the consequence of their delay. It's very "meta" in the sense that both the audience and the characters want Treebeard to be extremely damn hasty, and to say good morning in English and move on.

    • @AmariMorris
      @AmariMorris  Před 4 měsíci +3

      Yeahh that scene was really well acted by merry. Could feel the frustration through the screen. Really well executed and directed🔥

    At 7:49, It has always bothered me that in the movie, Frodo lied about Smeagol. Frodo answered truthfully in Tolkien's book: "I do not know where he is...He is only a chance companion met upon our road, and I am not answerable for him. If you come upon him, spare him. Bring him or send him to us. He is only a wretched gangrel creature, but I have him under my care for a while."

    • @AmariMorris
      @AmariMorris  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yah I think I ended up cutting it out but I’m pretty sure I mentioned how I didn’t understand why he would lie for gollum especially since he really didn’t know where he was. Cool to see the differences from the movie and book tho

    13:10 LOTR used green screen carefully. All the landscape shots are real except for the lava on Mount Doom (of which they filmed some non-lava shots on a genuine volcano... just not in eruption: too risky and too unpredictable). In some of the mass combats, there were fewer actual actors there than it appears: they were multiplied with CGI. (They still needed so many people for mass combat scenes that in one part they borrowed a chunk of the New Zealand army, who hit each other so hard they broke the prop weapons.) Gandalf fought a mostly CGI Balrog. Whenever a horse dies in battle, that's CG, obviously. A lot of large building distant exteriors, and a few interior sets (Lothlorien mainly), were scaled-up miniatures. Aside from that, practical effects, including for the size differences between the hobbits, dwarves and humans/elves.
    14:56 It's actually silly of Aragorn to suggest this. There are no allies close enough to reach them before everyone gets slaughtered, even the Lothlorien elves, the closest, who only got there in time because they had already left (and didn't come in the book - the film uses their arrival as a proxy for the fighting they were doing elsewhere). Theoden's pessimism is accurate.

    • @AmariMorris
      @AmariMorris  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Damn that’s really cool this movie they really good for something that came out early 2000’s🔥
      And makes sense lol I can see why theoden was so angry/frustrated.

    Yes, elves are immortal. Aragorn comes from the old race of men who live for a couple of hundred years. The brothers aren’t related in real life.

    • @AmariMorris
      @AmariMorris  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Ahh ok ok I can see how it hurts Arwen even more and a couple hundred is nothing to the elves lol. They really do look so much alike that’s crazy😂 thanks for answering my questions.

    • @Atagahi
      @Atagahi Před 4 měsíci

      @@AmariMorris Tolkien’s elves are immortal*, but with an asterisk: They can be killed in battle (like you saw with Haldir and the others at Helm’s Deep) or by severe grief that robs them of the will to live. But there is no such thing as death from “natural causes” - elves don’t get sick, and their bodies heal from wounds that would otherwise be fatal for humans. Elves don’t even need to sleep.
