42:42 this is such an underappreciated moment, when Frodo volunteers and Gandalf has this pained look on his face. This moment is a culmination of centuries of work on Gandalf’s part, following his intuition and foresight long ago that the overlooked hobbits had to be brought into world affairs somehow, that decades ago he sensed that he had to involve Bilbo in an adventure. And it all led to this: an innocent hobbit volunteering to take on a suicide mission that should never have been placed on him.

The ring wraiths hesitate at the river because it is the border of the Elf kingdom, so to openly cross it would be an act of war. Sauron does not wish to reveal that intention yet, but the wraiths see the ring is within their grasp so they risk the confrontation.

I cant wait to watch the rest of the series with you, and I hope I get to tell you this in time: There is an extended edition of these movies that includes a shocking amount of important plot nuances that had to get cut away to make the duration limitations of their production contracts.
During the releases, Peter Jackson was still filming adittional scenes for all 3 movies to add more stuff because he had some budget coming in from the initial release, and the producer just greenlit more and more stuff. They kept within scope, amazingly, and there is so much that got added in addition to what was once cut away.
I'd watch you reacting to this series AGAIN in extended edition, especially if you give opinions about the changes and what was missing and not. The compare/contrast would give you enough content of your own during the viewing that you would get enough original content runtime to be really watchable! Good luck in all ways, and I love how passionate your imaginations are. Enjoy all your life as much as you can. Blessings!

34:13 Sam is more than capable of finding the weed Aragorn wants, he’s literally Frodo’s gardener, that’s his job. Admittedly that’s only suggested before (with the whole ‘cutting the verge’ scene at Frodo’s home), but in the next movie at one point Sam actually identifies himself as Frodo’s gardener.

You’ll need the extended for the next two. Especially the second one. It contains Boromir’s backstory and so forth. (Also react to the the vocalized lyrics in the end credits. They tell stories in each movie) the second one tells more about Gollum from his perspective. There was so much work that went into this. So much so that the credits themselves are 30 minutes long because the team involved was around 3000 people consistently nonstop. Even years prior to the film coming out and post production pick up stuff.

Another bit of non-spoiler information that you might like to have is that Elves are immortal in that they don’t die of disease or old age and age very very slowly, but they can be killed, although they can recover from wounds and injuries that would be fatal to other races. Additionally, Elrond is called “The Half Elven” because he’s the product of the rare unions between Elves and Men. He was allowed to choose between the fates of either race and chose to be counted among Elves and his children are allowed the same choice.

The Brandywine River is too deep for the horses to safely cross. The Nazgul were hesitant to cross the last river because the Elves control it (in the books it's Elrond who controls it as

    • @JediLordWong
      @JediLordWong Před 4 měsíci +3

Yep it’s not becoz Nazgûl are afraid of water, but the river is part of Rivendell territory and under the power of Elrond it’s Lord, who is not only in control of nearly everything in his territory including weather and elements but also the wielder of one of the Three Elven rings mentioned in beginning. It’s powers are not obvious but implied to make Rivendell almost impregnable unless Sauron himself comes.
Also the One Ring apart from invisibility, is implied to be able to control all the others who wear the rings, which is what happened to the nine Men who became ghost slaves to Sauron’s will. The Elves are implied to also be able to be controlled, but in the past, the moment he made and put on the ring, the elves took off the rings to prevent the mind control.
The dwarves he couldn’t corrupt directly through their rings but he indirectly made them insanely greedy for gold and material wealth to the point they lost their kingdoms either through internal strife or attracting dragons which destroyed most of their kingdoms. The Hobbit story tells of Bilbo adventures with a group of Dwarves to recover their lost kingdom and treasure from Smaug a huge flying fire by breathing dragon. Thankfully in the end, the dragon was slain (though not by the dwarves) and the dwarves and nearby human kingdom were rebuilt and prospered in the end, enough to resist SAURON Allie’s during the course of the saga which is called War of the Ring
Lots of back story but yeah, the Ring is a big deal and almost NOVODY except Sauron can control it without corruption or insanity.

It’s more complex… : Firstly: All 16 rings were meant to go to the elves (300-500years world of infiltration & deception down to the drain) but Mairon of the Maiar(primordial angelic beings in simple terms as they are sort of beyond angels) disguised as a high elf named Annatar when he came to the elves pretending to be an emissary from Valinor on behalf of the Valar so it makes sense how alluring the ring is and how strong it’s pull on people is. (A bit too instant in the movies though) Galadriel soon saw right through him and especially when after speaking with him regarding not remembering him when in Valinor long ago where she learned from all the Valar thanks to being dominantly Vanyar/Teleri side over her Ñoldorin side where she gleaned from that encounter that she did not study under Aulë the Vala with any elf named Annatar ! But later named Sauron by the elves meaning deceiver! After all of this, The three elven rings were made in secret without Saurons touch upon them thanks to Celebrimbor! Remember Gandalf before he became Gandalf was the same species of entity Sauron used to be!! Wow hey? The Rings, in this case, would have lost their powers eventually due to the lack of the One Ring and possibly because they were designed to defeat evil, and evil, in the form of Sauron, had been defeated. The Three Elven Rings served their purpose for a long time. Two out of three of them had several different bearers Unlike the other Rings, the main purpose of the Three is to "heal and preserve", as when Galadriel used Nenya to preserve her realm of Lothlórien over long periods. The Elves made the Three Rings to try to halt the passage of time, or as Tolkien had Elrond say, "to preserve all things unstained". I can expand upon this based on any further statements & questions you have for me as a reply to this comment ! ❤
There is problem here with the Rings, the Three were supposed to be never touched by Sauron and that's why they were not corrupting…Sauron had not taken part in their making which made the Three more 'pure' unsullied by his dark power, unlike the Nine and Seven Rings! But Sauron in the show touched the very material they were made of!!! So technically he could have tainted them and corrupted!
Even appendices of Lot tell us the order of making the rings, so they didn't even need the righs to more detailed writings in UT or Silmarillion:
      1200
Sauron endeavours to seduce the Eldar. Gil-galad refuses to treat with him; but the smiths of Eregion are won over. The Númenoreans begin to make permanent havens.
      c. 1500
      The Elven-smiths instructed by
Sauron reach the height of their skill.
They begin the forging of the Rings of Power.
      c. 1590
The Three Rings are completed in Eregion.
      c. 1600
Sauron forges the One Ring in
Orodruin. He completes the Barad-dûr. Celebrimbor perceives the designs of Sauron.
      1693
War of the Elves & Sauron begins.
      The Three Rings are hidden."
'Did you not hear me, Gloin?' said Elrond. 'The Three were not made by Sauron, nor did he ever touch them.
But of them it is not permitted to speak. So much only in this hour of doubt I may now say. They are not idle. But they were not made as weapons of war or conquest: that is not their power. Those who made them did not desire strength or domination or hoarded wealth, but understanding, making, and healing, to preserve all things unstained.
These things the Elves of Middle-earth have in some measure gained, though with sorrow. But all that has been wrought by those who wield the Three will turn to their undoing, and their minds and hearts will become revealed to Sauron, if he regains the One."
The One Ring’s power over people explained here:As for the rings given to these groups:They were all meant to go to the elves but Mairon of the Maiar disguised as a high elf named Annatar when he came to the elves pretending to be an emissary from Valinor on behalf of the Valar so it makes sense how alluring the ring is and how strong it’s pull on people is. @@Makkaru112 while I think your comment on Ulmo being involved is valid, let’s not confuse the Reaction people who have never read the books, let alone the deep lore from the Silmarillon. It’s hard enough to teach or explain LOTR to new people without them getting bored or overwhelmed with too much information. The Valar are rarely mentioned in LoTR books except for a few references here and there so let’s not overwhelm new people.
But yes, I forgot to mention that Gandalf was also involved in that he made the river flash flood look like horses galloping. I believe he mentioned while Frodo was recovering, that Elrond commanded the flood but Gandalf added his own touches of magic by dramatically making them look like a horse stampede.
Though I am not a big fan of adding Arwen to replace Glorfindel’s role, I have to admit that part of the film riding to Rivendell was awesome and well done.

Bilbo Walking Song: “Roads go ever ever on, Over rock and under tree, By caves where never sun has shone, By streams that never find the sea; Over snow by winter sown,
And through the merry flowers of June,
    Over grass and over stone,
And under mountains in the moon.
    Roads go ever ever on
    Under cloud and under star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known”
The original version of the song is recited by Bilbo in the last chapter of The Hobbit, at the end of his journey back to the Shire. Coming to the top of a rise he sees his home in the distance, and stops and essentially sings what I shared above!
There are three versions of this walking song in The Lord of the Rings.
The first is sung by Bilbo when he leaves the Shire and is setting off to visit Rivendell:
The Road goes ever on and on,
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
    Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.
The second version is identical except for changing the word "eager" to "weary" in the fifth line. It is spoken aloud, slowly, by Frodo, as he and his companions pause on their way to Crickhollow, looking beyond to lands that some of them have never seen before.
The third version is spoken by Bilbo in Rivendell after the hobbits have returned from their journey. Bilbo is now an old, sleepy hobbit, who murmurs the verse and then falls asleep.
The Road goes ever on and on
Out from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
Let others follow it who can!
Let them a journey new begin,
But I at last with weary feet
Will turn towards the lighted inn,
My evening-rest and sleep to meet.
1977: The Hobbit (1977 film): Sections of the poem are sung during the trip through Mirkwood. It appears on the soundtrack titled "Roads".
1980: The Return of the King (1980 film):
A song inspired by the poem is sung at the end of the film called "Roads Go Ever, Ever On".
1981: The Lord of the Rings (1981 radio series):
Bilbo sings the song as he leaves Bag End. It is sung by John Le Mesurier to a tune by Stephen Oliver.
    1997: An Evening in Rivendell:
The Tolkien Ensemble adapted an original melody to the song, composed by Caspar Reiff.
2001: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring:
Parts of the song are sung by Gandalf in his first appearance, and also by Bilbo as he leaves Bag End.
2006: The Lord of the Rings Musical:
The poem is the basis of the song "The Road Goes On" sung by Sam, Frodo, Merry, and Pippin in the first act.
2014: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies:
Lines of the poem partially make up the lyrics of The Last Goodbye, performed by Billy Boyd(Pippin) for the credits of the film.
This is just stuff to know when you see the next films. Maybe seeing this will spark something you read here or in other people’s comments via future reactions to the other 2 films as well as the 3 The Hobbit movies!

The elvish songs of lamentation were for Gandalf when they arrived in Lothlórien. So the song you hear is literally for him whilst being a theme for the movie itself. The only excerpt from these songs is "Mithrandir, Mithrandir, O Pilgrim Grey!"
This was expanded & set to music by Philippa Boyens & Howard Shore, respectively, for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. It was sung in the said film by Elizabeth Fraser in the track Lothlórien. Notable about this song is that it assumes that the elves of Lothlórien were aware that Gandalf was an incarnate Maia. This is debatable. As well, the lyrics ask "What drove you to leave/That which you loved?". This suggests that Gandalf was well aware that he would fall in Moria. Other debatable verses include the claims that Gandalf was the wisest of the Maiar, and that with him the Flame of Anor would leave the world (assuming that it and he were one, or he was the only wielder of the Flame).
    (English comes after the Quenya)
    * The first part is in Quenya:
    A Olórin i yáresse
    Mentaner i Númenherui
    Tírien i Rómenóri
    Maiaron i Oiosaila
    Manan elye etevanne
    Nórie i melanelye?
The Second part is in Sindarin:
    Mithrandir, Mithrandir, A Randir Vithren
    ú-reniathach i amar galen
I reniad lín ne mór, nuithannen
In gwidh ristennin, i fae narchannen
I lach Anor ed ardhon gwannen
    Caled veleg, ethuiannen.
    * Olórin, who once was...
Sent by the Lords of the West
To guard the lands of the East
    Wisest of all Maiar
    What drove you to leave
    That which you loved?
    Mithrandir, Mithrandir O Pilgrim Grey
No more will you wander the green fields of this earth
Your journey has ended in darkness.
The bonds cut, the spirit broken
The Flame of Anor has left this World
    A great light, extinguished.

One of the most wonderful powers of Gandalf the wizard, that most people don’t recognize, is the ability to walk freely among the Little Folk, and be welcomed by them. No tricks played on him, dancing for centuries or sleeping for generations, no death or crop failures visited on him, nor children stolen (though he hasn’t any). Just come in, sit down, have a bite and a sup and a drink and a smoke. Tell us some tales and be told ours in return. A friend and neighbor, and how have you fared in your wandering?
None of us have that privilege. For us the teeth and the territoriality, the dreadful and the uncanny. The inside out clothes and the iron nails.
Would that we could sit down for a pipe and a tale with our friends of the forest. Would that there would be peace between our kindreds. But at least we can watch Gandalf, and dream.

Then, the more you watch the more you begin to notice just how good all the elements are. The cinematography, the settings, the soundtrack, the script, the acting, the costume designs, the lore etc etc. Then you compare it in your mind to the other great films you know and after that realise that nothing else really comes close. You will not see a better trilogy. Films are just not made like this anymore. I highly recommend watching the Extended Editions if you can, they really do the films justice and reveal so much more of the world of Middle Earth!

Great reaction. You seem to be picking up on it, but remember the ring is its own character, and the ring is the villain of the story. There are a few scenes (like when Bilbo leaves and Gandalf tries to pick up the ring) from the rings perspective. The great evil threat in the story isn't a far distant empire, but the ring itself.
Looking forward to continuing the journey with you. The series is incredible!

(Since you only hearted part 2 I assume you didn’t get to read it notice part 1) : Galadriel’s gift to Gimli has deeper meaning behind it, like most things in this movie & reflects the expanded lore of the middle earth universe. Galadriel is one of the 2-3 most powerful & wise elves remaining in Middle Earth since the time the land was young. She was born in a place called Valinor, or the Undying land... which is basically the place of residence of the Valar, the local pantheon, the local "gods" as you may call them. Back then, the world was not illuminated by the sun&moon, (only the stars, but rather by 2 trees of gold and silver, Telperion and Laurëlin that lit the world before the sun & moon were born from their last flower & fruit as they were basically killed by Melkor when he struck them with his Lance and Ungoliant the primordial Eldrich Terror, Ungoliant she was named by the Eldar). It is said that Galadriel's hair had somehow captured some of the shine of those two trees. Her uncle Fëanor, who was a great king of the Elven people after his father Finwë was slain by Morgoth(Formally known as Melkor).
Fëanor arguably was their greatest craftsman to ever live, asked if she could give him a lock of hair, so that he could use it to fashion 3 gems that would shine of the same light as the trees. Sensing his pride & a shadow that wasn’t exactly belonging to him brewing from within, she refused his request 3 times. He stopped asking and made the gems anyway, managing to complete the task he had set for himself even without her hair. Around these 3 gems, the possession of which became the driving force for many of the great events in the world, entire wars that lasted for centuries exploded, and other events. The gems actively shaped the fate of the races of middle earth to the point that the aforementioned Valar got involved directly. During these times, events surrounding the gems brought about the traditional enmity between Dwarves and Elves... the same enmity that Gimli still feels towards them. That enmity however does not survive his encounter with the wise Galadriel, whom Gimli basically falls platonically in love with. By giving him 3 of her hair, Galadriel is opening a door, offering an olive branch that might one day close the gap that divides these two races. Legolas, himself being an Elven prince and centuries old, knows of the story through his father Thranduil & grandfather Oropher, as it shaped the lives of all Elves, and his subtle smile is possibly the first act of acknowledgment and reconciliation. it is also a way for Peter Jackson, the director of the film, to give a nod to all of the fans who know these facts and backstories... a way to make us feel seen, and to make us appreciate just how deeply the makers of the film respect the books and larger universe created by Tolkien.
The thing with the hair may seem weird, but there is a significance to it in real life as well as in the lore of the story. In real life, it was not uncommon for wives, fiancés, or even girlfriends to give their men (who were going off to war), a lock of their hair as a keepsake, particularly in WWI, which Tolkien fought in. The lore part of it comes into play in The Silmarillion, Tolkien's tales of the creation of Arda, the Undying Lands of Valinor, and Middle Earth. Galadriel is many, many thousands of years old, & was born in Valinor before the sun & moon were even created. At the time, the world was lit by two trees, one gold and one silver which would shine at different times from each other, but would shine together once a day when one would fade and the other brighten. Galadriel's hair was said to look like the light of the mingled light from the two trees, which may have inspired Feanor, a master craftsman and heir to the high king of the Ñoldor, to craft the Silmaril's which were three jewels that captured the light of the two trees, one golden light, one silver light, & one co-mingled light. Fëanor had a bit of a thing for Galadriel and begged her for her hair three different times, which she rejected because she could perceive the inner darkness of his heart and rejected him, which made them "un-friends" after that. There is a lot more to the lore than that, so this is the super crib-notes version. But the point is, it was VERY significant that she granted Gimli three of her hairs to a dwarf, when she would not to the son of her king many 10s of thousands of years ago of which she is related to all three kings who were brothers and Elu Thingol of Doriath was one of the brothers that didn’t stay in Valinor even though he was one of the elven ambassadors along with his three brothers and that king I mentioned was VERY close friends with Thingol)

Excellent explanation. Indeed people are ignorant of what was done with hair in our history. Especially the young think this is 'creepy', but hair, of a dear one, was used to make home art of for example. You might have something hanging on the wall, instead of having a photograph, as a token of somebody you love(d).

“Beautiful & Terrible as the dawn” Galadriel was quite correct to call the morning and night both “beautiful and terrible…”. In truth the physical and metaphysical natures of morning and night were both by turns beautiful and terrible.
First the morning. Physically the morning is the result of the golden fruit of Laurëlin, transformed into a vessel by Aulë’s craftsmen, hallowed by Varda and piloted by the fiery Maiarin spirit Arien. The sun was so terrifyingly powerful that its radiance instilled fear even into Melkor’s heart and defied the assault of his minions.
Physically the sun is a beautiful golden orb yet it is simultaneously terrifying in its intensity and cannot be observed directly for more than an instant without pain. Metaphysically the morning is beautiful because it diminishes the evil power of those creatures who haunt the night, gives strength to the righteous and because it illuminates the terrene loveliness of Valinor and Middle-earth. Metaphysically the morning is terrible because it obscures the light of the stars and sheds light on the ugly reality of Arda Marred, whose very substance is corrupted by the power of Melkor.
Last the night. The night is the Void surrounding the globe of Arda, which existed even before the creation of the Ainur at the beginning of time itself. Physically the beauty of the night lies in the fact . Physically the terror of the night is that it conceals the beauty of Arda and limits the senses of the elves and gives strength to the creatures of evil such as orcs, trolls and the Ringwraiths. Metaphysically the night is beautiful because it is during the hours of darkness that the stars of Varda, the most beloved creations for the elves, shine most brightly. Metaphysically the terror of the night for elves, who are irretrievably bound to the world of Arda, is that the Void represents the interstellar coldness which is the prison of Morgoth.
Terrible in its more original archaric form didn’t always mean “bad”

A quick note on why Tolkien had the Ringwraiths hesitate to cross the river: There is a long history in many cultures' myths and lore that things that are evil cannot or do not like to cross through running water. The sense is that flowing water is purifying. For instance, in the old legends of vampires that Stoker drew from for his book, vampires cold not cross running water.

Enjoying watching the movie with you! You're among the very few reactors I've watched who picked up on the Morgul Blade. In the book, the tip of the blade was broken off. Later in the house of Elrond, Gandalf explained to Frodo, "They tried to pierce your heart with a Morgul-knife which remains in the wound. If they had succeeded, you would have become like they are, only weaker and under their command."

(Part 2 of Galadriel) Ever wondered how old she is during the War of the Ring? I have looked in many different sources and depending on where you look, she’s anywhere from 17,000-20,000 years old. 6,000 seems too young as it would make her close in age to Elrond, who I know is much younger than her even though he’s 6000-8000 by the third age, which wouldn’t make sense for her at all even if she was (“690 years older” as some kept repeating on the internet making 6960!)As she was around long before Elrond was even born and time was experience differently to say the LEAST as there is a lot to go into on that subject lol.) She was born during the Years of the Trees & back then the years were something like 9X longer than a solar year so I understand the math is hard, especially since she isn’t given an exact birth year. But it is said that Finarfin, her father, was born in Y.T. 1230, so I would assume she was born sometime within 1000 years of then (being generous).
Basically, I’m wondering what the most accurate range is for her age during the events of Lord of the Rings. I’ll also add that Galadriel is was around before the ents even existed (of which Treebeard is 15,000 years old so she’s OLDER than Treebeard/Fangorn) or very close to when they were “created” by Yavannah and probably had much knowledge to do with such things and or direct knowledge of what happened. Probably through an early prototype of her mirror or simply another dream that made her long for middle earth all over again ontop of the yearning she already had to go there and explore. Nothing to do with Fëanor’s oath and all that jazz.
Just going from the Appendices (and maybe Silmarillion) she would have to be at least 9000+ years older than Elrond, Elrond was born near the end of the First Age, Galadriel was adult before the destruction of the Trees.
Actually, more than that: I just checked, and the Second Age ended in SA 3441. So an elf born literally at the end of the First Age (FA 590) is 3441+3018 = 6459 years old when Frodo leaves for Rivendell. Elrond was born in FA 532, so adds 58 years to get 6517. Elves are mature at 100, so Galadriel adds at leas 632 to Elrond's age, to be at least 7149, and possibly quite a bit more (as attested by other comments.)
One fic had Maglor(Elrond’s Adoptive Father, Maedhros was also adoptive father alongside Maglor, they were the eldest sons of Fëanor) - One fic had as much older than Galadriel; I wondered how we knew, and it was pointed out to me that Maglor was the second oldest son of the first son of Finwë, while Galadriel is the youngest child of the third son of Finwë. So, yeah.
Note that the second age was the LONGEST and again time was experienced very differently back then too aside from the internal clock of elves working very differently, she’s definitely older as far as the world and the other beings that age far faster around her.
I also remind you all that she’s older than the sun and the moon and witnessed & most likely even helped in the Valar’s crafting what would be the vessels of the last fruit & flower of the two trees of Valinor. She was the most involved with learning everything possible from them and it was stated that she learned all there was to learn from ALL of the Valar that they could teach and she mastered all at a deep level. (Wow hey?)
She’s 25th generation from Tata one of the elven forefathers to wake to the stars. Their birth was rather shrouded in mist. Only those of her grandfathers ilk have a chance of knowing the origins a bit better as they are closer to that culture that stemmed from the beginning.
The Years of the Trees were the second of the three great time periods in Arda that followed the Years of the Lamps and preceded the Years of the Sun&Moon. They were known to be comprised of several Ages and lasted in total around 1500 Valian Years or 14,373 solar years.
Time flowed differently back then and time flowed differently within them too for the elves live as long as the world does. Epic hey?❤❤
The Dúnedain said that Galadriel’s height was two rangar, or "man-high" - some 6 feet 4 inches (193 cm). However, Galadriel's most striking feature was her beautiful long silver-golden hair. The Elves of Tirion said it captured the radiance of the Two Trees Laurelin and Telperion themselves. Galadriel was said to be the tallest female in Middle Earth, at 6'4”. But then Thingol was the tallest elf ever to live, and he's estimated to be almost 9' (274 cm)
Thingol was also a very very prominent figure within the Silmarillion and other books. He’s the great ancestor of Elrond+Arwen and through Aragorn being directly but distantly related to Elronds Twin Brother Elros it makes him loosely connected to Thingol as well. Let’s just say he died a tragic death long long ago. I’m a continent that doesn’t exist anymore. The events I spoke of in my earlier story of Elrond about his fathers deeds, which lead to the Valar helping with putting a Stop to Morgoth for good so to say and that War Of Wrath lasted 80 years straight and it left the landmass torn asunder from the clash of gods and the holy host of Vanyar elves that were closest to the Valar than all other elves so you can imagine what a bunch of mighty elves men and Maiar fighting a bunch of fowl creatures and beings for 80 years would do to a continent. It all fell into the sea. Galadriel barely made it over the mountain before that part of the story officially broke out.

Saruman needed the trees, of course, to fuel the fires of his "industry" - building an army worthy of Mordor. J.R.R. Tolkien was very adamantly anti-industry (and war) and wove his nightmare vision of such things into the fabric of his world.
The Nazgul chasing after Arwen with Frodo weren't afraid of the water, clearly - the river, though, was the border of Rivendell. Elvish dominion over that region gave them pause, is all.

    Hello there.
Thanks for sharing this with us, LotR nerds! I hope you will enjoy your ride :)
In case you are interested in more information, here is something more from the lore, behind the scenes and a bit of explanation.
First of all, I suggest you watch the extended editions. They are not nessessary to be watched in general, but they will help you fill some blank spots in the story you might have.
For example, in the beginning of this movie, Bilbo gives a brief description of what a Hobbit is and, mainly, explains that Hobbits are very fond of good food, ales and smoking, (qoute) "But where our hearts trully lie, is in peace and quiet..."
The ring works by influecing the hearts and mind of its bearer and those around him, promising to fulfill their wildest dreams if they give in to his power and use it. But since Frodo is a hobbit, and they do not care about almost anything, especially not about power, Hobbits (though small in height, not the brightest or best warriors, leaders, smiths or wizards) are generaly very resilient against the influence of the rings, because, to put simply, the ring simply has nothing to offer them.
When Bilbo tells his story to the kinds during the party, he speaks about trolls. Later, just before Strider and Sam go looking for the plant to slow the poisoning, you can catch a glimpse of 3 statues, which are the trolls from the Bilbo's story.
This was Orlando Bloom's (Legolas, the elf) first role after a school.
The elvish language you hear in the movie, is a custom language created entirely with full alphabet, gramar rules, and meanings, by the author J.R.R.Tolkien, who was actually a linguist. And yes, he made the language first, and later decided that it needs a story.
Wizards in this world aren't your tyical spellcasters you know from other fantasy movies or games. They do have some tricks up in their sleeves but their tasks is more that of a leaders and wise men.
When the Hobbits enter the Bree and pass the gatekeeper, you see few shots from the streets during a rain, including a quick glimpse of a man eating a carrot. That is the director of this trilogy, Peter Jackson. He has one cameo in every episode, so you can try to spot him in the Two Towersand Return of the King :)
Brief (hopefully) explanation of Aragorn's bloodline and the story of men.
Long ago (several thousand years), the elves fought against a Morgoth (basically Sauron's big boss and one of the fallen gods, if you like). Some men helped the elves in their fight and as a reward, they were given an island of Numenor to manage, and their lifespan was lengthen. Over time though, as it usually goes, the leaders of these men became corrupted, partially thanks to Sauron's lies, and they brought a catastrophy in form of giant tsunami, which sank the whol island. Before that happened, some of the "loyal" men went off in their boats and landed in the Middle-Earth (the continent this story is on). Eventually their leaders settled and created two kingdoms - Arnor in the north (Shire, the Hobbit's place, is located south-like in the Arnor, for your rough perspective) and Gondor in the south. (Boromir is from Gondor, as he mentioned in the movie). Their king, Ellendil (the king that dies in the opening battle scene) rulled both of these kingdoms. When he died, his son Isildur inherited the tile and he became a king of both kingdoms but he passed the rulership of Gondor to his brother, Anarion. and so the kingdoms basically split, though both kingdoms were rulled by men from the same bloodline.
Arnor eventually fell, under a constant attacks from the north and their leaders retreated into the woods, where they assumed a position of rangers, wandering the wilds and trying to protect people from the general Arnor area from harm. Aragorn descends from that line, though there is about (uuuh...) 25+ generations of kings and about 15 generations of ranger chieftains are between him and Isildur (3000 years is a long time). Gondor was more successfull in their stability but one day, their king went into a battle and never came back. And since he didnt had an heir, people chose their best general (i think) as their leader, but that general was decent enough not to usurp the position of a king, but remained as a steward. Hence Boromir saying "Gondor has no king. Gondor needs no king..." So, Aragorn, being the only living descendant of Isildur (who was the son of Ellendil, the last king of BOTH kingdoms), has an ultimate claim on both thrones (though, technically, Arnor does not exists anymore).
In the movie, Merry and Pippin are unseparable rascals, and Merry is the more "grown" from these two, while Pippin is the "dumber" one. In reality though, actor playing Pippin (Billy Boyd) is much older then Merry (Dominic Monaghan). While Billy was around 32 years old when the movie came out, Dominic was just 24.
The creatures you refer to as "demons" are orcs and what you see in the movie, are purely prosthetics without CGI. I would personally recommend watching behind the scenes after you finish with the entire trillogy. Nowdays they slap CGI effects everywhere but back then, what the actors had to do was something else...
The branch slashing Arwen during the chase with the ringwraiths was an accident, same as Gandalf banging his head against the wooden beam in Bilbo's house.
Sean Bean's (Boromir's) script changed over night so when they were shooting the council of Elrongs in Rivendell, he had the new script in his lap and you can see him looking down in the movie :)
Elves were the first magical beings that came to life in this world. They are not wizards but they have a great symbiosis with nature. Rather then using spells, they 'command' the nature if the need arises. The Arwen's spell on the river translates as: Waters of the Misty Mountains, hear the word of power! Rush, waters of Bruinen, against the Ringwraiths!"
Speaking of Bruinen, the river, the ringwraith do not dislike the water any more then other dark creatures of this world, but they stopped because they knew the river is considered a border of the Elvish lands, and therefore they were aware of the danger that would awaits them there. (Like Arwen tells Strider, before she jumps onto her horse and rides off - "If I can get Frodo across the river, the pover of my people will protect him."). As for the similar instance earlier, where hobbits jumps onto the ferry, the riders does follow with his horse, because the Brandywine river is (in the books atleast) considered to be very deep and swift.
    One more:
As for the Gandalf escaping from the top of the tower, You first see a moth flying his way before he catches it. You can then hear him whisper something to the moth before sending it away. Later, when Gandalf explains Frodo why he was delayed, you can see the moth flying in front of his face and shortly after that, when Gandalf tells Saruman that "There is only one lord of the ring..." , you can catch a glimpse of a shadow form an eagle forming behind saruman. Gandalf sees that and jumps off of the tower.
I am pleasantly surpised how many things you deduct yourself, but you still miss some details, just every once in a while, while you talk ;p
I will stop by after the end of the second part to provide more informations for you. If you are not interested in it, simply leave a message and I will stop with my spam :) Enjoy the ride!

The region called The Shire was given to the Hobbits by the king of the Northern Kingdom. Armor, 400 year before it fell. It was rich farmland, about the size of Great Britain, that had been depopulated by war and disease. The only condition was that The Hobbits keep the Great East -West Road and it's bridges, that runs through it's Northern border in good repair.
Hobbits are counted as Men, but their lifecycle is different. They mature more slowly and aren't considered adults until the age of 33. Frodo shares his birthday with Bilbo and turned 33 the night of the party. It's not unusual for them to go beyond 100, but they are normally frail.
The following timeline was not told in the movie because it would have confused the audience.
Gandalf spent 17 years studying the origins of the ring and tracking down how it came to be in Gollum's possession.
Frodo was 50 when he followed Bilbo from The Shire, though he still seemed like a much younger Hobbit from being in possession of the ring. Samwise Gamgee's family worked as gardeners and domestics for the Baggins family for three generations. He was in his late 30s when he set out with Frodo from The Shire. Merry Brandybuck was 31 when he and Pippin Took , 29 and still an adolescent, when they found their friend and cousin Frodo was setting out on a dangerous mission with only Sam for company. They were from the most prominent families of The Shire.
The Nazgul fear water because the demigod Ulmo who sang it into existence and his servants, still dwells within it. Plus The Loudwater borders Rivendell and Elrond's realm. So if Elrond asks the river nicely to set a flood trap that can be triggered at need, and a powerful wizard suggests it would look impressive if it was decorated with foaming horses, the spirit of the river is likely to help them. It washes away all the robes that the Nazgul need to give shape to their nothingness.

The Gandalf locked in the Tower bit is explained ONLY in the Unfinished Tales Book: In [manuscript-C) The Black Riders arrived at the Gate of Isengard while Gandalf was still a prisoner in the tower. In this account, Saruman, in fear & despair, & perceiving the full horror of service to Mordor, resolved suddenly to yield to Gandalf, & to beg for his pardon & help. Temporizing at the Gate, he admitted that he had Gandalf within, & said that he would go & try to discover what he knew; if that were unavailing, he would deliver Gandalf up to them. Then Saruman hastened to the summit of Orthanc - & found Gandalf gone. Away south against the setting moon he saw a great Eagle flying towards Edoras.
See, the thing is he was always master of studying the enemy & even being able to think like they do to always know exactly the best ways to handle ever situation and so on, but the thing is he didn't just become the enemy, he at this time in a sense for once actually grew afraid of him, probably Sauron did what Sauron did with Finrod Felagund(Galadriel’s elder brother who by the way was the most important in the Legendarium & is the main reason the third age even exists) which basically widdled Saruman with various visions of the past and future until it wore him down, but Saruman(Curumo) was the mostly already becoming weary due to what was called The along Defeat, magic bleeding out from the lands of middle earth and subsequently certain things become less and less possible and the elves begin to go west. Even the ones who never wished to leave middle earth and many of which were born here by the thousands.

“I shall NOT be Dark. (All evil) will despair” The elves (Galadriel especially is one of the few remaining that existed before the sun & moon. They pre-existed day & night.) How utterly, completely terrifying do you think it would be for your whole world to irrevocably change in a matter of an hour? For the thousands of years of (what you would come to know as twilight to be abruptly ended in a profundity of genuinely painful light and an infinity of colour? Of the joy, wonder and terror of distinguishing the difference between green and blue for the very first time in your whole life?)
She is talking about the immediate, majestic sublimity of reality that one experiences in it's totality for the very first time. How on earth could that not be so terrifying as to threaten one's sanity?
Galadriel with the ring would be exactly as beautiful and horrifying. I personally would not know whether to weep bitterly and perfectly, or claw my eyes out through the sheer, unutterable terror of her being in such a circumstance.
But know this: she was showing Frodo what would happen if someone else got the ring. She wasn’t tempted at all. Gandalf tells. Galadriel shows. See the difference now. Two sides of the same coin. Both were needed.
(But yes there was a more fluid beauty before the rise of the sun. Her uncle whilst in middle earth beheld the first rising of the sun and to see this wide field before him in even more definition than before. This was also the beginning of the dominion of men.)

Aragorn is the heir of the High-king of men in the ancient past and the heir of the Western realm of Arnor which ceased to exist a long time ago. The eastern realm Gondor had it's own line of kings and were completely independent since the last high-king died. Technically, Aragorn has an ancient claim, but he's not from the more recent Gondor line of kings. If he ever wants to be king then he needs to be accepted by the people of Gondor. It's not automatic.

The ring wraiths aren’t afraid of water. They’re afraid of entering the land of the Elves, whose territory begins at the river. And Elves and wizards in Tolkien’s writings don’t cast spells. They ask the elements for assistance. The water, fire, earth, air, and void are asked to lend assistance. Magic in later fantasy writing gives the wizard or magician too many easy solutions to problems and challenges. Tolkien preferred that the character used his mind or prowess to solve his problems, not magic. Wizards in LOTR and the Hobbit are counsellors, advisors sent to help the people of middle earth, which is a continent, not the planet, fight against evil, particularly Sauron.

    2. Aragorn singing the Lay of Luthien, providing a parallel between the events of the Beren and Luthien and Aragorn's relationship with Arwen of which every reactor channel I’ve seen makes the connection and it pulls them into a deeper understanding of their relationship every single time.
    3. Aragorn kneeling at his mother's grave, giving him some additional backstory for the viewer.
    4. Gandalf explaining to Frodo about the corruptive power of the Ring, and how it will strain the Fellowship from the inside, foreshadowing Boromir's downfall.
    5. Sam singing a lament for Gandalf, providing more emotional weight to Gandalf's death, referencing the start of the movie and strengthening the connection between him and the Hobbits ( also highlights Tolkien's love of song and poetry in the books).
    6. Galadriel giving the gifts to the Fellowship, providing context for their appearance in later films, as well as drawing a parallel between Gimli's gift and the events of the Silmarillion (Fëanor & Galadriel).
That’s just the beginning. Including several removed scenes between Aragorn & Galadriel and Aragorn with her husband Celeborn!
7• also the opening explaining Hobbits & their culture to the viewers, so they have a better understanding of these peoples we will be following which also was the direct full chapter called Concerning Hobbits.

Amazing how times have changed! JRR Tolkien smoked a pipe in which he used good old tobacco and he used the shorthand of "weed" to describe it, little knowing that in 60 years or so "weed" would mean something else entirely. All the younger people reacting to these movies invariably assume the latter....by the way, I much prefer the extended editions of the movies, for me they are much more satisfying, but a few will disagree. Fun facts: the two young children in the front listening to Bilbo's stories were Director Peter Jackson's children and Jackson himself has a cameo appearance in each of the movies.

regarding Nazgul and water: Ulmo is basically the God of water. He was one of the Vala (benevolent Gods) connected to Elves and Men in Middle-earth, and was the one who aided them the most. The Nazgûl, as servants of Sauron, feared the power of Ulmo, and believed that some of his power might still flow through the waters of Middle-earth, hence why they avoided it as much as they could. They felt vulnerable in water.

What you're hearing from Gandalf when everything becomes dark and menacing and later from the ring during the quarrel is the inscription of the ring in it's original language, the Black Speech of Mordor:
    Ash nazgh durbatuluk
    Ash nazgh gimbatul
    Ash nazgh thrakatuluk
    Agh burzum-ishi krimpatul.
Tolkien was a linguist. basically first he created the languages (the Elvish language that you hear mostly in these movies is Sindarin and it was modeled after Welsh), then the peoples and cultures for them and lastly the mythology and the stories.
The time in which LOTR unfolds is just a minuscule part of the timeline of the entire long and immensely complex history of Tolkien's created world, that stretches for millennia, with many lands, peoples, languages, writing systems, wars, conflicts, rising and falling kings, powers, complex events. You mentioned the music several times. Yes, this is probably the best movie sountrack of all time. I teach film music at a university and Howard Shore's score is one of my primary materials for study.
Peter Jackson's and his team's enormous accomplishment is coherence, the fact that in this imaginary world everything is working together. When they introduce a people, a race, all aspects of their world is believable, from their looks, to architecture, to music, to language, to ornaments on houses, to clothing, no element is dissonant.
You get the feeling that if a people looks like that and speaks that sort of language, then their houses must probably look like what you see, their music should sound exactly like that and so on.

20:00 Ladies and gentlemen, the great Christopher Lee and his amazing freakin voice. If I sounded like that I would speak nothing but early modern english for as long as I lived. Also this movie doesn't explain it, but in this universe wizards are basically equivalent to angels. They're celestial emissaries who have been given physical forms by what essentially equates to God in this universe, but were born ethereal. Gandalf came into being right at the beginning of time. There isn't really a limit to their powers. They're just kind of magic and that's it. They can do pretty much anything that they can imagine. They are way more powerful than wizards in most other fantasy stories because they're much higher in the pantheon of their lore. The only reason that they can be defeated by anything not of their realm is because Middle Earth during The Lord of the Rings is a world in decline. The backstory behind this one is on such an epic scale that it's probably unfilmable regardless of how good our CGI has become. In the world as you're watching it magic is basically fizzling out and the fantasy world is basically in the process of turning into the real world that we know. That's a fascinating thing about this story. Tolkien created a mindfuck of a history to his world and then told his greatest story in what was probably the most boring point in that history. What makes it so good is that it can be told slowly and carefully because all of the most intense things have already happened. There are a lot of references in this movie's dialogue to things that sound cool, but you don't know what they are. They're all basically easter eggs for people who have read all of Tokien's work and actually know the history. I haven't because I don't have time for all of that, but I've gone down wiki rabbit holes and know basically the whole history exempting exact details. It's pretty fascinating.

Firstly: All 16 rings were meant to go to the elves (300-500years world of infiltration & deception down to the drain) but Mairon of the Maiar(primordial angelic beings in simple terms as they are sort of beyond angels) disguised as a high elf named Annatar when he came to the elves pretending to be an emissary from Valinor on behalf of the Valar so it makes sense how alluring the ring is and how strong it’s pull on people is.
One thing that you’ll find helpful to know is that the Wizards are not ordinary men who have learned to use magical powers. They are an order of being called the Maiar, Angelic or Demi-god in nature, created before the creation of Arda (the world) who have taken a physical form. There are many in Middle Earth and some had gone over to Sauron and his master Melkor long ago. Sauron was perhaps the most powerful of these beings, almost as powerful as the Valar (the powers of the world) themselves. What powers they have were a natural part of their nature from the beginning. Sauron allowed the greatest part of his own powers to pass into the ring when forged so he’s much more powerful with it than without it.

Too few reactors wonder about the ring seeming much heavier than it should be, for it's size, when Bilbo lets it drop onto the floor and it doesn't bounce! Good catch! ;-]
The trick they used was quite cleaver. A very strong magnet was positioned just under the surface of the floor. Bilbo's ring didn't bounce because it was trapped almost immediately by seemingly _invisible forces_ ;-]
The Making-Of DVDs that come in the big boxset are almost as fascinating as the movies! At least, for me. ;-]

I forgot to say, dont stop watching at the end credits for all 3 movies. I watched the movies in theatre upon their release and sat through the end songs, its amazing how that reinforced the mood of what I just watched,it really was an extension of the movie. FOTR: May it Be by Enya. She also sang Aniron when Aragorn and Arwen are sharing a close moment on the bridge in Rivendell.💕 I immediately tried to find the end credit songs after watching the movies. The one from the next movie is the most haunting song I've heard in my life.😳👌

All of our reactions are first time reactions. Have I seen bits and pieces in the media over the years? Of course, who hasn’t. It’s impossible to completely avoid seeing or hearing anything about this movie. However, I have never watched this movie or known details about the plot.

I know this is a reaction style video, but the magic in good reaction videos is that you guys need to almost forget that you’re recording yourselves and just let yourself get lost in the movie your watching so you can emote genuine reactions.
