LYRICS
You've got that look in your eye again
It's working overtime
Worried about where I'm gonna spend my life
But it's much too late, it's much too late
Oh it's much too late to start picking fights
You said: Where ya been, where ya been
Where ya going to, where ya going to, where ya going to?
'Cause I'm right here, yeah
Can't it wait, can't it wait, can't it wait
Just a minute now, just a minute now, come on
CHORUS
I need some air to breathe
I need some space, just leave
'Cause I'm colder than ever (colder than ever)
I said I'm colder than ever
I'm empty, empty through and through
Someday they'll see, someday I'll be
Unwanting of somewhere to hide
But for now I'll take shelter
Deep in the back of my mind
Can it wait? Can't you wait?
'Cause I ain't ready to lay it on the line
I still shake, I still shake
From this chill in my spine
I've got this chill yeah
In the back of my spine
Baby all the time now
Chilling my bones, chilling all alone now
Find a way, find a way, I've found a way
To cope with the everyday now
Raise your hands if you understand
CHORUS
Smiling's just a phase yeah
And nothing can phase me
Summer of 94, job in NYC driving around making copy paper deliveries to companies, the van had at least 5000 watts of Nakamichi in it so........LOA (River Runs Red), Type O (Bloody Kisses) and COC (Deliverance) non-stop at extreme high volumes, all windows down. Wore out 2 copies of each cassette.
What a great fucking Summer that was.
I concur.. deliverance and bloody kisses still Stand the test of time.
@@jonathanmontoya9711 yes... they sure do.
Summer 95 Germany @civil service: Red Cross blood bank,, driving around all windows down and LOA
A different world back then, wasn’t it
These 3 albums were my highschool soundtrack...well seasons in the abyss was also in there with Nola but that's literally all I listened to
River Runs Red is probably one of the most overlooked concept albums ever.
Agree man🤘🤘
What's the concept
@@briancannon3987 Teenage kid who's life is falling to shit, bitchy stepmom, gets fired, gf breaks it off and he's failing school(all connected with messages on the answering machine), end of the album he locks himself in the bathroom a slits his wrists, and ends with the stepmom screaming after she busts in and finds him.
@@roguelead72 oh wow....I found a vhs tape with a bunch of unknown 90s bands. Life of agony was the best band on there
True Story!
Brooklyn metal scene...
LOA / Carnivore / Biohazard
Legitimately one of the most underrated bands ever. Fucking awesome.
Hell yeah.
#Check
LOA was sick back in the day
still sick today.....back to playing again with a new album
Loa was the SHIT man, river runs red front to back was killer
River Runs Red, without question, is one of the best albums from beginning to end. It has been 23 years since it was released, and it never gets old to me.
1993 for me was 4 CDs... River Runs Red, Bloody Kisses- Type O Negative, Blind- COC, and Vulgar Display of Power- Pantera. There were some others too but those four were in full rotation for a couple of years straight. Good damn stuff.
Thor Thunderlungs blind sure was good man.
Donald Knepper Why am I OT surprised to find you here at the top of the comments section, D Mat Knep? You are the reason I know who Life of Agony is. Long live Vince Henderson and that weird fuck Christiansen. #BabiesAblaze
Never gets old. This song, this album, are honestly timeless. I still get the same stoke as when I heard it as a kid in Jersey. The absolute.
Or Carcass - Heartwork, Death - Individual Thought Patterns, Sepultura - Chaos AD, and Megadeth -Youthanasia.
Actually saw Megadeth for this tour and COC opened at I think Roseland Ballrom NYC.
The rhythm on this track is unfucking matched. River runs red is one of the best albums of the 90’s/early 00’s
What a time for music, the early nineties was! L.O.A, Sepultura, Pantera, Slayer, Paradise Lost, a just emerging Machine Head, great bloody days for sure!
Don't forget Biohazard 💪
Some timeless shit indeed.
@@ekulyarg Type o Negative
90s was a great time for music. Death metal, Industrial metal/rock, Gothic metal, Doom, and Black Metal. Even loved the strange alternative bands of that era.
No white zombie, huh ? 👎
SO damn good. Grew up on this album, in an alcoholic/abusive home. This, Reign in Blood and Master of Puppets are why I am about to turn 46. Period.
Let just say that I listened those too at the time. Keep rocking brother!
Ps. I quickly dropped Slayer, but Metallica and Life of Agony forever!
This album SAVED my life. Forever THANKFUL to LOA
Me too. This album made me realize I wasn't alone. Someone else was going thru or feeling what I felt.
This has got to be one of my favorite songs....your voice is UNBEALIVABLE ...You Rock Mina !!!!
Saw LOA live about 4 years ago in downtown Buffalo, NY and they kicked ass!!! Crazy pit!
that is one unique voice
This is Keith's voice, not Mina
Keith/Mina's vocals are so badass on this album. I love this album. Been listening to it since 1993 and it's still as good today as it was then.
This was as good of a album as you will find
Keith
I remember when this video premiered on Headbangers Ball (which I recorded every episode!), man I wore that poor VHS tape out rewinding this video over and over to watch it. I already owned Urban Discipline, but LOA definitely had their own style. River Runs Red is one of the only albums that I've listened to consistently throughout my life and if anything it has only grown more powerful. The vocals, the melodies, the lyrics. This album just captures a perfect aesthetic.. it also has a distinct autumn feel to me for some reason, like October/November depression, emptiness
Also about Keith/Mina's vocals, his vocal coach back in the RRR days was the same vocal coach for Bon Jovi - Roadrunner were investing big dollars cause they clearly saw the talent in Keith, now Mina. Honestly didn't like Ugly at all when it dropped but I've grown to really love it and now that I'm in my 40's I don't think there's a bad song on it, Ugly is absolutely incredible. Soul Searching Sun as well - in fact SSS is probably my #2 fav after RRR
It's Keith only
Saw them last night for the first time, they absolutely killed it.God bless NYHC.
Not NYHC.
@@willomanza Yeah the first album had NYHC influences but they are a fusion of genres and their sound changed every album
@Robert I was referring more to the general crowd at their shows.Theres a few bands and rappers who grew up in the scene that go to and play shows with Nyhc bands.Nothing like the feel at those old school shows, the air is different you feel a release.
@@michaelcastronovo2821 LOA/SOIA 30th Anniversary tour starts tonight in Albany NY. I got in on the guestlist.
@@willomanza where are you from? I grew up in NY at that time and they were def on the NYHC circuit used to be a staple at L’amores and Irving plaza with Bio, Carnivore, and also AF. You obvi weren’t there. I get you’re a new Jack but to us NYers they were def NYHC
I saw them open for Type-O back in the early 90’s. The singer Keith was a maniac..stage diving..running all over the place..was a great show! River runs red was the best album
I have to admit, when I first saw these guys, I thought they were a bunch of posers. After listening to the album more and getting to grips with the craftsmanship in the music, the way they let it breathe and learning more about Caputo's life, it became one of my favourite nostalgic albums. There still isn't enough of this kind of groove out there. Acid Bath are way up there too.
Hell yeah acid bath is always one of my favorites i swear no one knows them
How could people not like Life Of Agony? This is one band that should made it all the way through the 90's and 2000's. They should have twice the albums released and this band is extremely underrated.
I remember staying up late watching headbangers ball and this was on there all the time.
Man, 20 years does a lot to people. Miss this version of this band.

This song is a constant reminder to show Love. I refuse to be cold and empty. It's not an option. Love LOA
Bought this cd in Sweden 1994 back when I was broke, even broker than today. After the first listen it felt like I had wasted my money. Woke up the the next day with the eco of Caputos voice in my head. Gave it another listen and..... lets just say the river has been running red ever since.
My middle school jam. River Runs Red is a classic.
Jon Arbuckle sameee. 7th grade bores fadaysss
One of my most favorite albums of all time. Every song is a gem!
This video is such a quintessential 90s music video and I love every single thing about it.
The guitar tone on this album is so damn heavy.awesome album.
And the kick drums sound killer too
The album was produced by Type O Negative's keyboard player. Their first albums have this same awesome guitar and drum sound
I love the effort they made to get a killer tone back in the 80s and 90s. Now it's all automated, no effort.
I was born in '83. First time that I heard this masterpiece was on cable TV...Viva 2. My God, Keith /Mina...You kick asses till this day!!!! 😍 😘💕
From the very first time I saw this video on Headbangers Ball, I was hooked. This album and band are Immortal!!!!
I really miss those old times with all my heart...
Colder than ever...classic! Man, how I miss the 90's!
Smiling is just a phase yeah and nothing can phase me.
Greatest lyrics ever
I said I am colder than ever.. I am empty... empty through and throoouugh
I always thought he said 'I am just a failure and nothing can save me.' ; till I read the lyrics. Weird what the mind can make of it sometimes. Legendary album, no doubt. ;) 2020
What does it mean? I can't translate it in German. Because the translation from english to german makes no scence😕
Come on!!
Opened up for them on this tour , sick show !!!
90s: Best time for Metal heads \m/
classic! fav song on the album
Classic Life of Agony. Joey Z is the man.
Yes, he is... Keith, at that time... was insanely awsum. Always on point, little shows like L'amours, they killed it. He sang so good and deeeeeeeep back then it was so intense
just one of those albums you can put and listen to it begining to end !!
a classic, overlooked thematic album in a world that chops up only radio hits. I am 35 years old and got down with this back in the day. This is true rock and roll....timeless and full of anger AND a message that a lot of us who grew up fatherless can understand.
River Runs Red will always be their best album it is a timeless classic
One of my top 20 favorite albums of all time. River Runs Red is great from beginning to end never have to skip a track.
Saw this band in Atlanta at the masquerade back in the day. LOA tore the place up. Crowd went insane!
Oh jesus christ how have i forgotten this band!!! Back to the years of my early twenties... This is soooooo good.
Bardzo dobry kawałek zapadający długo w pamięci.A zwłaszcza wokal charyzmatyczny.
Life Of Agony guitars sound so heavy and crunchy. Powerful stuff!
The D standard tuning gives it that heaviness
Awesome Awesome Awesome!!! Fan since 1994, first saw the band 1995 with Pro-Pain and The Spuds! 2nd time live with Crane on vox and Richardson on drums back in 1998! Will always stand with you girl and boys! Greetz from Germany
Roadrunner Records were on their $#!t back then. I remember buying Sepultura's Arise in '91 and they had a 2-sided mini flyer inside the cd case that displayed their entire catalog of metal bands that were just as good. What happened?!!!
Still one of the best videos of the 90s. Right in the pit. We´ve seen it a hundred times over here.
This is awesome. I remember going to the record store back in '93 to get them to order this cassette for me. Haven't stopped listening to it since.
Fuck. I'd always loved this song but now, when I read lyrics...I literally got goose bumps. Just a personal thing.
It's personal and it's not personal. I get goose bumps to from their lyrics. There are not a lot of bands with such recoganisable lyrics about feelings and people's everyday life as Life Of Agony! Everytime i see them life i see an amount of passion from the band and the fans that i see with no other band. Believe me, many people across the world get goosebumps from their lyrics because the lyrics are personal. :D
wow I thought that LoA were through. It's so good to hear they use to play live, I WISH I could see them one day, maybe I will? I think when lyrics are personal then it gets to one's heart more deeply and truly
Oh it resonates with us as well soon the volcano of emotional suppression will erupt
Such and underrated voice!
Ya Keith Caputo is one bad ass vocalist man! I love those Brooklyn New York bands like Life Of Agony,Madball,Agnostic Front,Carnivore,Biohazard,Type O Negative,Seventh Void,A Pale Horse Named Death,Seven Witches.

Timeless and forever relevant. I love this band \m/
I recall Utilitarian clothing working like a miracle in a cold TX winter warded off by Peppermint Schnapps; Good Weed, and a warm ,willing girl friend ... Mosh Pits in the school gymnasium ... a DJ who I believed with all My heart was the devil... garage and empty swimming pool bands ...and this song opening and healing a new and deeper wound in the souls of all who were moved by it ... whimsically Fatalistic, Martial Sad Motivator
I seriously need to listen to more of this band. Excellent song from the off.
Right back to when i was 13. Thank you
This song is so boss.
"Find a way, find a way, I've found a way
To cope with the everyday now
Raise your hands if you understand"
still hits me.....
Absolut der Hammer...toller Song fantastische Stimme
I REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME I SAW LIFE OF AGONY ON HEADBANGERS BALL AT NIGHT!!! THESE GUYS BLEW ME AWAY AND THEN WHEN I GOT RIVER RUNS RED AND UGLY....I WENT AND SAW THEM LIVE...HOLY CRAP!!! Super underrated band.

I had a band that played in Brooklyn at the time, not a HC band but pretty good. I was never jealous or felt intimidated by bands, but after seeing them live at L'amours on their way back on the RIVER RUINS RED TOUR, I was blown away. Changed me forever!!! I saw ALICE IN CHAINS a month before at Lalapolooozer. LOA was so mutch better at L'amours.
River runs red is one of the best albums ever
Wow, brings back some memories, feelings, adrenaline, sadness, fear. As a guitar player and drummer (wannabe singer;) ) I always loved LoA's dynamics. Back in these days Pantera and Sepultura were favs but the NY scene was awesome and still leaves a mark on my heart and soul. I was just getting my taste of Tool back then (They are my favorite hands down for the last 20 years). Man am I that old?
this album just speak volumes to me
LOVE this band!
my buddies and i loved river runs red.
Swear to God this album was so fucking awesome I'm 49 still can't believe how amazing it truly is
One of the sickest metal songs ever
Thats not metal lol, thats hc punk
shirok shor it’s metal Alt Metal
this isn't metal. the only thing metal about this is downtuned guitars. this is hardcore. LOA is dope but metal this is not.

I'm 61 now. Someone played this for me back when they came out. For years I couldn't think of the name of the band... Ahh rejoice, all these years later I found them. It's "Fun" time all over again.
Underrated so criminal
What a great Album!
So many people here arguing about what category of music this is. 'It's sludge.' 'No, it's hardcore!' Blah, blah, blah. Fuck categories! There are only two categories; good music and bad music. Good music is an honest expression of a musician's emotions and creativity. It doesn't matter if good music sounds like metal, pop, country or rap. Bad music is an expression of a musician's desire to be popular and it doesn't matter what it sounds like because it will always sound like shit. LOA is fuckin' awesome! Doesn't matter if they're hardcore, sludge, whatever. They rock!
Man, you fucking nailed it.
Glad to see some sense in this fucking raging genre-debate.
In my world, there are two genres... good and bad music...
Saw Life of Agony in Atlanta in support of River Runs Red.........pit was insane!!!!!!!
This is their best song imo. Also, I’ve recently come to the sad conclusion that troubled vocalists often seem to nail the emotional side of singing, like it’s their vent.
acojonante, una de las mejores canciones de los 90
Went to go see these guys when this album came out at a club in RI they Killed it one of the best bands Ive ever seen live other than LSD
very well rounded talented band. vocals guitar riffs Life of Agony rocks

Amen brother. Metal saved my life.
Had a chance to hang out with them when they were in Albany. This album and their show will always bring it home for me to those days of Type O, Stigmata, Slayer, And all the rest of the good music that still makes me stomp and rage in my 50s.
I'M COLDER THAN EVER!
woah this is pretty brutal
It’s a shame kids today have no appreciation for music like this anymore it’s so sad
My little brother is obsessively into Volbeat right now. I wonder how he'd react when I show him this. Keith and Poulsen sound so similar!
And then show him a picture of Mina

NicholasBellic no joke i was talking with my friend today in school about that and he agreed
NicholasBellic Thank you! I've been saying that ever since I heard Volbeat. Very different lyrics/style but wicked similar vocals.
