@@jodino6953 No, it isn't...Metal was the alt offspring of Rock, you can only add to it or deviate from the parent. This is pretty damn close to Punk, far more than Metal...
This song takes me back to being 18 years old and having my whole life ahead of me. Sure wish I could go back to 1992! Things were absolutely awesome back then!
Yeah dude! I went to a st Andrews informal when I was 18,so I'm guessing 91...all the beer you could drink and the main act was a seriously still way cool mental as anything at a time when all members were living the dream and as an act way beyond the norm...I fully remember reg taking the piss out of the front of stage bouncer types and everyone on stage just fully enjoying the performance that by that point in their lives as a band compared to the eighties, the members had outside interests...but as a band on that night at that particular annual event-absolutely 100% enjoying themslves!
Just a quick note for the younger fans of this band: It's really kind of crazy for the older people like me who grew up in this era to hear this song again. Youngsters may not know but when it came out Helmet had generated SO much buzz! MTV and other various music-centered magazines like Rolling Stone and Spin had anointed them as the band to change music and talked about them like they were the 2nd coming of Jesus. This band was like a cornered rabid animal with expectations from their record label and the music scene in general that was practically unbelievable. The bar was set so high they could never live up to the hype. I specifically remember someone saying, "Helmet is the next big thing, the next Nirvana". Note 4/1/2023 - I just want to stress that the comparisons I make between Helmet and Nirvana is mostly to do with record company sales projections and not which band is subjectively "better" than the other. Helmet and Nirvana are/were VERY different bands sonically. Nirvana could never have been as percussively heavy and occasionally brutal as helmet, and helmet was never going to write lyrics as silky-clever as Cobain.
Yeah I remember them being pushed to the forefront and being sold as the next big thing. As you say they were never going to live up to the hype. Loved this song though.
They did not make fun of Helmet. The quote was "If you saw these guys on the street, you wouldn't even know they're cool." Talking about the short hair.
Great example of how a baritone can sing effectively in rock/metal in his natural range without screaming or growling! Killer vocals large in part to his excellent melody writing.
If I hear a band that sounds Really good and has the groove and then the Vox comes in Screaming and that's it, I'm so over it. There's a time and place for screaming. Helmet was good, really good.

It's amazing how a 30 year old song still hits like it was released yesterday. The times when music was made to last. Not like now that you make music for profit.
Right. The music for profit that sings about their profit. This I'll never understand, nor the people that pay for it. Today we get this for free and it still hold a much greater value then those ballers could ever imagine.
Helmet's use of bass has always been the reason why I liked them more than a lot of other Alt-Metal and Hardcore bands. The bass gives their songs a lot more texture

Page Hamilton is on the Linkin Park album entitled "The Hunting Party". RIP Chester B
Agreed!
They like the three days grace of the 90s
Saw them back in 1992 on this tour
Very true ayy
I love it when a band doesn't try to have an image. Wearing regular clothes and normal hairstyle, it just seems like they are focused completely on the music, it's great
Some things don't change. I just saw them open for KoRn and they still look the same these days.
It’s called Alternative Metal
@@jodino6953 No, it isn't...Metal was the alt offspring of Rock, you can only add to it or deviate from the parent. This is pretty damn close to Punk, far more than Metal...
AC/DC comes to mind...regular dudes that pack a wallop!!
thats rare these days dude, the only othr band i love/loved was pantera just jeans tshirt and instruments and comfort..
Bring the 90s back 🤘
This song takes me back to being 18 years old and having my whole life ahead of me. Sure wish I could go back to 1992! Things were absolutely awesome back then!
If you didnt repeatedly watch Beavis & Butthead re-runs in vain hope that you might get to hear/see this song one more time, you've never lived.
Omg! YES!!!😄
Pre-internet people are a different species.
@@garki1369 God Bless you for that .
The stop/start guitar over a driving bass line is the ultimate grind.
Alison Joyce dude you got it
in a nutshell
helmet trademark sound
Exactly. Everything is spot on. Damn good band.
Yeah.. so crisp!!! really cool........
he said grind...huh huh huh
Who else saw Quicksand and Helmet during the 90's? I must've seen them at least 5 times in WNY.
This song represents a time when metal had surpassed heavy metal, but not degenerated yet into nu metal. Good stuff.
Helmet, Mudhoney, & Sonic Youth @ Sydney Uni January 1993. My ears are still ringing.
Just a little jelly
I was like 14 or 15 when i saw these guys live in Asbury park nj, 36 now and Clutch was the only other band that was as good live.
Saw them at Baltimore Arena in December 1992.They opened for Sepultura and MINISTRY!
You are so privileged !
That was an unique and amazing day !
Loved this song though.
thanks for the info man! that surelly helped picture the "scene" they were into
Logic Makes Sense
I remember Beavis and Butthead making fun of them. "Huh Huh, uHuh uHuh, they look uHuh uHuhuh like, so Uhuhuh normal.""
They did not make fun of Helmet. The quote was "If you saw these guys on the street, you wouldn't even know they're cool." Talking about the short hair.
Wicked bass, grew up on this one
"If you saw these guys on the street, you wouldn’t even know they were cool"
Great example of how a baritone can sing effectively in rock/metal in his natural range without screaming or growling!
Killer vocals large in part to his excellent melody writing.
That's so true!

Spot on !

If I hear a band that sounds Really good and has the groove and then the Vox comes in Screaming and that's it, I'm so over it. There's a time and place for screaming. Helmet was good, really good.

Your contribution left unnoticed some
Association with an image
Just credit time for showing up again
Attention wandered I’m left with it
Gone by sin too slowly
Can’t pass it up
Then I thought nothing is right
I turned it off
To die unsung would really bring you
Although wet eyes would never suit you
Walk through no archetypal suicide to
Die young is far too boring these days
Your will to speak clearly
Exposed too much
Unsung once too often
Could not rub off
Thanks.
Thank you. You’re doing the lords work
Bless 🤘❤
Drummer kicks ass
THIS SONG ROCKS !!!!!! 🤘🏼
Mike Judge's taste in music remains solid after all these years
My first show ever, Helmet and Faith No More back in the early 90's....I wasn't disappointed
Mine was pantera and anthrax.
My god I'm jealous - that would have been sick
@@ThePubliusValerius - Thanks, it was a great first show. Mike Patton climbed up the wall in the theatre we were in and sang the whole song while he was 30 ft. in the air on theatre wall. We got to meet, Roddy, Mike P., Mike B and Billy of Faith No More out by the buses after....it was really fun, I was 16 years old
@@aplus1080 - That's a good one too. I saw Pantera Sepultura and Prong....that was fire also
Damn thats a good one! I saw clutch and primus. 19-Along time ago lolz
thank you GTA San Andreas!
2020 who is still listening?
Binge watching old 90's songs, figured it was a good way to start the new decade.
May play this song at a gig in 2 weeks
You wasted no time, I see.
This song popped into my head a couple times lately, even though I haven't heard it since the 90's.
Im glad we aren’t alone
Radio X
Yesssssssss
Heavily underrated band. I always loved their compact and powerful sound. It's effective and timeless in my opinion.
Helmet's use of bass has always been the reason why I liked them more than a lot of other Alt-Metal and Hardcore bands. The bass gives their songs a lot more texture
In almost all cases, the bands that accentuate the bass have an amazing bass player worth accentuating. The opposite is generally true as well.
@@eddiekalista3222 true
John Stainer still killing the drums in 2022. One of the most underrated of all time.
Thank you. I didn't know his name.
* Stanier
Yup, he's a beast.
Stanier
Can't imagine anyone not recognizing these guys in the 90s
Relieved the snare is not a bucket ❤
Nobody writes vocal melodies like Page Hamilton. That's one reason I adore Helmet the way I do.
They rock and always will Dora!!!
Deftones too
J Robbins from Jawbox
@@chrisdrumz7 Definitely.
I was literally just thinking about posting how I love his vocals...
A great example of how a baritone can sing in rock/metal effectively and without screaming or growling!!
Does anybody else hear Ozzy in his voice?
Remembers a lot
I hear the intro of Sportscenter. Still love Helmet.
i first heard this song in gta and i thought it was some weird ozzy b-side lol
Now l can't unhear it !
Yesss me too
Thank you, Guitar Hero, for introducing me to this song (and the band as a whole).
No guitar hero ever rocked a plastic guitar with no strings...
Those guys all got stuck in purgatory as they collaborate on projects that involve drums with no sticks and guns with no bullets...Their kickstarter offers land on Mars and ocean front property in Arizona for those interested.
This song takes me back to high school. Listening to it in my car with an awesome stereo where I wasn’t told to turn it down! This song hits hard & never grows old.
I used to play this whole jam on my guitar back in the day.👍🔥💥
I'm 50 years old and lift weights to this
51. Me, too.
I salute you. I lift weights to Ministry and Meshuggah.
Me too, 48. And Rollins, of course. And Mark of Cain ...
31 here, still lifting my women
Now you’re 52! Happy birthday 🎂
I saw these guys open for Faith No More in 92 and they did not disappoint
Saw them with Rollins Band and Sausage at the Roseland in NYC in..guess it was 95...they're awesome live. And I just realized that was 30 effing years ago...
EDIT: Just looked, it was August of 94.
I don't understand why there are over 4 thousand dislikes, this song is epic! I heard it so much growing up and still like hearing it today
Damn this song brings me back. One of the best. I had to get on my Frankie Hill and do an ollie.
Fkn great ass jam🔥🔥🔥🤟🤟🤟 heard it till like '93-'94 ...sick vibes✨
Damn, I kinda forgot about this song as if it's hidden in the fucking basement ... I miss the 90s ... '95 was a great year ...

Janitors sanitizing everything: *U N S U N G*
Lol why does it have to be one or the other?
As a former janitor, I vibe with this statement.

TRUTH
Dont you pretend that you didnt bumped your head while listenning this masterpiece.
I forgot how BADASS this is😊
