I'm currently working on getting approved for these rn. I have had multiple mastoidectomy surgeries on both ears starting at 10yrs old and have dealt with hearing loss for 32yrs now. Needless to say I am very excited about getting this, especially after a demo! The sound is amazing
hi! currently trialing the demo. how was it for u if u got the surgery. how much did it cost? wondering if there’s more patient experience the demo is kinda hard bc of the band and movement so hopefully you can give me ur opinion and how you like it if u got the baha
@@bisharorashid When I had the demo it was 5 minutes in the waiting area of the hospital so it's hard to say how it compares to that. I got the Osia implants on both sides done in February, activated in March. So far they've been great. I had no idea the world was such a loud place! They did take some getting used to and there are some things I don't like. In certain vehicles sound from the radio, music or talking sounds crackly, like a blown speaker sound. Outside on a windy day is a pain too. Also beware you won't be able to get an MRI unless the internal magnet is surgically removed. But overall the pros far outweigh the cons. The total surgery with devices was over $100k but after insurance and our deductible was met it was about $3k out of pocket. Obviously that will vary depending on your coverage and you probably know how difficult it is to get a straight answer about cost from the hospital 🤷🏻♂️. You can also apply for financial assistance from the hospital, depending on your income the bill may be greatly reduced. I say go for it, I'm glad I did, I wish I had done it sooner.

Hi all. Doc says I should have listened and done one side at a time. There was a lot of swelling the first 3 days. It has finally gone down some. There is still a lot of swelling on my right side, and had some kind of skin tag develop that I accidentally cut while drying off. I have to wait til I'm all healed before I get the devices. Very frustrated that I can't shave my head yet.
There was some pain but manageable
I am billaterally deaf like him. I hope Ican be a recipient of that kind of hearing aid.
Update on me: my head is going to stay a lil bumpy because of my previous history. I had originally had a mastoidectomy on my Rt side, so itstands out more on that side, so I might grow my hair out. Doc says there is still some swelli g that will go down eventually so only time will tell but I received my devices yesterday a d my hearing has improved significantly. There is a small feedback issue that I have to discuss with the audiologist. The bluetooth doesn't pair well with android devices yet but they are working on that currently. I did get emotional aand overwhelmed with emotion. The world is very loud and it's gonna take some getting used to but totally worth it.

I have surgery on Nov 28th for an OSIA 2👏 I tried the simulator a couple months ago and it was such a great experience. I'm so nervous about the surgery

Can the osia2 be fitted bilaterally for SSD ?
How long does the battery life last in the bone conduction hearing aid?
Where the heck is the battery? When will it get changed out? Been to house clinic when i was diagnosed with meneires, i have since lost hearing in right ear about 95% loss

Of course! Just about anyone can benefit from cochlear implants as it bypasses the hair cells that stimulates the auditory nerve then to the brain.

So I should mention, I was not deaf but had about a 33% hearing loss in both ears. Regular hearing aids cause me to get ear infections because my ear canal is very narrow (born that way) and they trap moisture in my ear. This was a better solution, (I've tried several different types of hearing aids.) I can hear great, the world is loud. Because the devices are magnetic I accidentally knock them off all the time. Sometimes I just forget they are there. Wearing a hat is difficult. Haven't been able to shave my head because it's still healing and very sensitive. Got a trim and shape-up a few days ago and felt them cut every hair. My head will be forever lumpy now. Curious to see how that's going to look once I shave my head.
Just had my implant surgery yesterday. Got it done on both sides. I had the same issue, I don’t have full hearing loss but the conventional hearing aid has been causing a lot of ear infections for me because of trapped moisture
I’m deaf in my left ear and thinking about getting this done. Can I ask if the implant is visible when the processor is not on and you shaved your head? Also what’s it like compared to the hearing in your good ear? Is it the same after your brain gets used to it? Does it interfere with the sound quality of the good ear?
@reykeef I did both at the same time. I shave my head regularly, and everyone suggested that I grow my hair back to cover the scar and make the implant less noticeable. I considered it but then decided to keep shaving my head because I wanted to start normalizing it. I want people to ask me about it so I can educate them instead of having people just stare at me and make assumptions. I even went so far as doing stand-up comedy and talking about it. The implants are visible when the processor is off, but not much. If you are face to face with someone, they won't notice it. If you have hair, they most likely won't see it at all. People see the bumps on my head from the side and from the back. Remember to always keep extra batteries with you, and when it beeps to let you know the battery is dying, you should change it as soon as you can (they typicallylast me 2 days to 2 and a half days. So how big is the scar and where exactly does it start and end? I didn’t think about the fact there will be a scar too. I was also expecting the implant would be more or less invisible to the naked eye as that’s how it appears in the few photos I’ve seen online. Someone else mentioned there is a slight delay with the audio too so I’m worried that will interfere with the quality of hearing in my good ear. I’m also curious to know what it actually sounds like. Does it sound like regular sound to you or is it slightly robotic?
The thing is I can hear perfectly in my good ear, it’s just in noisy environments I struggle to hear things on my deaf side, so it’s not something I desperately need, it would just be really nice to hear on that side again when I need to. I don’t want to do anything that takes away from the natural sound I get in my good ear and I’d rather not go through surgery and leave scars unless it’s really worth it for my situation. Would you recommend it for someone with single sided deafness?
@reykeef I've healed nice. For me, there is no delay in sound. It's like hearing through a microphone. I continue to shave my head, no issues with it. There is a noticeable bump, but if you have hair, it will not be as noticeable, same for the scar, barely noticeable. The only drawback on it so far is that when it's windy (even just a little), it sounds very loud to you but no one else. I would say do it. If you can get the newest one that is capable of getting a regular MRI. Mine can only withstand up to a 1.5 strength mri, and it became an issue for me when I had an emergency a few months ago. No worries on the delay in writing back. I had forgotten about this til just now. Feel free to respond back. I hope I was helpful. Good luck. Let me know if you get it.
