Airplane! Best Scenes With Stephen Stucker As Johnny

- "Johnny" is a character played by actor Stephen Stucker in Airplane! the movie. Johnny is an Air Traffic Controller who pops up at random times and spurts out completely random things like "Nick, Pete, Jared there's a fire in the barn" or "There's a sale at Pennys!" All of Johnny's lines were written by Stucker himself and he was given the freedom to improv as much as he wanted during the filming of Airplane! the movie.
Stephen Stucker was cast for Airplane! the movie largely because of his background as a scene-stealing member of the cast of the Madison, Wisconsin Kentucky Fried Theater sketch comedy troupe founded by David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker. Of course Zucker, Zucker and Abrahams were the comedy minds behind Airplane! the movie.

"...and Leon's getting laaaaaarrger!"
Favorite line
Johnny was the only character who knew what kind of movie he was in.
There are some really funny stories about his audition for this role. It wasn't written as silly as it was. He took it and ran with it.
That's the main joke of the character; he's the only one who acts like he's in a comedy, in contrast to everyone else being stone-faced serious.
Stephen Stucker was one of those guys who passed on way too soon. He was a proper legend!
Agreed!
His last name was Stucker, not Strucker.
What was he famous for ?
Proper legend to the core
He was fantastic. Unfortunately he was another of the first wave of AIDS deaths along with Rock Hudson and Freddie Mercury. Had any of them been around today, they wouldn’t have died. It’s sad.
“I can make a hat, a brooch, a Pterodactyl”! Come on folks. That’s funny as Hell. 🤣
We all need a Johnny in our workplaces. Nothing but snappy hilarious one-liners all day!
Seriously! There should be a temp service where a business can hire a Johnny for a day.
I am convinced _everything he said_ was improvised he's that funny.
I found out they let him write his own lines to every leading line! Nicely spotted!
Back when film cost a LOT of money he was given carte blanche. They kept the cameras rolling on Johnny!
“No thanks”.
Brilliant.
"There's a sale at Penny's!"
Johnny was responsible for some of the greatest comedy moments of my childhood.
RIP you absolute legend.
Since, I was a small child I’ve always quoted ‘Just Kidding’ when turning out the lights.
😅
I don’t know why it took me this long to notice that one of those microphones, when Johnny is asked what kind of plane, is an ice cream cone. 🤣
*Damn just noticed*
Me too never noticed that before hahahah
You forgot that one scene that kinda referenced “The Wizard of Oz” (“Auntie Em! Uncle Henry! Toto! It’s a twister! It’s a twister!”)
Ohh yeah!! Hes got 2 phones in his hands and the cords are wrapping around him 😂😂
Johnny is so damn funny.
He improvised the majority his lines. Other actors in the scene had trouble keeping a straight face. He was gifted.
@@BixbieMedia he basically did what he could think of. That’s dynamite.
@@willfomes406 Similar to the part of "Ned Rireson" the insurance salesmen in the movie Groundhogs Day which was played by Stephen Tobolowski. He auditioned making all those funny noises and whistles and improved most of his lines.
The GOAT of scene stealing! ❤️
Steven Stucker would have been 75 years old today.
This guy was such a trip. He didn’t seem to have any specific job. He was just there to say goofy shit.😂😂😂😂😂
“It happened to Barbara Stanwyck” 🤣🤣🤣
His scenes in Airplane, are so memorable and every time I see any of them, just makes me laugh out loud!
My spirit animal
Dude was a creative genius and an absolute legend… “writers gave Stucker the straight lines for his scenes and let him write his character's off-the-wall responses.” (Wikipedia)
RIP Stephen Stucker
He auditioned in character and it was a done deal.
Johnny is my spirit animal.
Same.
Looks like i stopped the wrong week sniffing glue...
And how awesome of an actor if Lloyd Bridges to keep such a straight face acting opposite Stucker.
There's at sales at pennys gets me everytime....and "what do you make of this".... well a hat and a brooache... best movie ever!
and the way he types!
......don't forget, a pterodactyl.....ha hahahaha----loved it!
That dude was hilarious
Stephen Stucker had the Best Lines in the Airplane Movie & Performed his Character w/ such Humorous Whimsy Zeal!!
He was hilarious! 😂😂😂
That Leon is getting laaaaaaarger scene never stops been funny. It has me creased up with laughter every time I watch it.
for me it's got to be "where did you get THAT DRESS and those shoes......."
It's the way Leon is looking at him that gets me... That reaction was too genuine, that had to be improv on the spot by Steven.
@@jefff3886 Yes totally agree. Improv is sometimes where the funniest comedy comes from.
@@jefff3886 Steven isn't in the movie for long but he steals every scene he is in. The man was hilarious and I'm grateful he was in this movie which is already downright hilarious.
Man I loved Johnny! 😂
✈ "Bad news. Fog is getting thicker."
" And Leon's getting laaaaaaarger."
✈✌🏻"Will somebody tell me what in Sam Hill a woman is doing up there in charge of that ship!"
"Well, maybe she's got her ship together."
He made the movie funnIer he had a lot of good parts ..may he RIP..🙏
2:27 when you jokingly unplug the TV football game your dad's watching
2:15 "Where dd you get that dres?"
It’s AWFUL!!!! 🙄
And Those Shoes and That Bow!!! JEEEZ!!!!!
😂😂😂
Johnny is my spiritual animal
This guy is hilarious, I've used, "And Leon is getting larger," many times.
Bwhaaa! Thanks for posting!
The last scene was not included on this video clip after the airplane landed where Johnny was holding two phones up to both of his ears and was screaming saying "Auntie Em, Uncle Henry, Dorothy, Toto, it's a twister it's a twister."
How did we miss that??? I love that line, too.
@@BixbieMedia I agree, that was very funny too especially since how Johnny acted funny in almost every scene he was in. Only three scenes he spoke in a serious way which were 0:08, 0:36, and 1:04
Looks like a big Tylenol LOL
“Me John, BIG TREE”
“Theres a sale at PENNY’S”
“Oh its a pretty white plane with red stripes, long wings and these big wheels, LOOKS LIKE A BIG TYLENOL!”
😂😂😂💀💀💀
He was previously in the Kentucky Fried Movie's 'Courtroom' sketch as the stenographer, also improvising.
I love to watch this in honor of May 1st.
Imagine how many cuts were taking of those scenes because the actors couldn't contain their laughter.
Seriously! Imagine first day shooting when no one knew it was coming!
Oh it's a big pretty white plane with red stripes and curtains in the windows and WHEEEELS and it looks like a big Tylenol.
2:12 😮
A BIG TYLENOL
Need this guy in my office
Watching these Johnny clips makes me think of Yakko Warner.
To me he and bridges were the stars of the movie
looks like a big Tylenol
there's a sale at Penny's
he is almost an overly goofy riddler from gotham
Where did you get that dress😅
Stephen Stucker died in AIDS in 1986... a tragic event, but surprising to no one I think.
Watching his scenes in a row I suddenly get major Jim Carrey vibes. I wonder if and how much this actor/character influenced him.
Who’s Barbara Stanwick?
She's from the movie Fletch
A woman
Barbara Stanwyck was a leading motion picture star of the 30's, 40's and 50's, whose complete career spanned well beyond those decades. However, here, johnny is making an absolutely bizarre and hilarious reference to The Big Valley, a 1960's TV western in which Ms. Stanwyck played the matriarch of the Barkley family and their ranch. The show somewhat resembled Bonanza. When Johnny shouts, "Nick, Heath, Jarrod, there's a fire in the barn!" he's delivering a line as if he were Mrs. Barkley, shouting to her sons on an episode of that show. It's so random, it's fabulous!
How dare you
@@WhyToob thats amazing!
No thanks!
Did they no Jhonny was Gay in real life 😂.
He was pretty open about it. The guy was hilarious!
@@BixbieMedia he sure was .It's to bad he did not have a bigger role in the 🎥 ✈️
Stucker died of AIDS in 1986, at age 38.
How does this guy never get fired????
@johnking33762 I'm sure he still does his job since he looked more serious doing his job at 0:15 which is why he doesn't get fired. Plus, I'm sure everyone in that airport tower needs a little laughing which is why he doesn't get fired.
Absolutely atrocious
Awful. I saw "Airplane" when it came out. Everybody in the theater was in convulsion from laughing. Then the Johnny character came on and all his "comedy" bits were met with silence. I'll never understand why the Zuckers went in this direction when everyone else played it straight.
What the hell are you even getting at? Why did you put "comedy" in quotes?
Obviously your sense of humor has died of old age
Thats horrible, I would’ve been laughing the whole time johnny came on… to hell with them!
Closet case.
Well, that makes one person in recorded history who didn’t like Airplane.
BOTH THIS MOVE AND ITS SEQUEL WERE SO MUCH OVERRATED!!!! BOTH WERE SO SILLY THAT THEY WEREN'T EVEN ENTERTAINING OR FUNNY!!!!
Every party needs a pooper that's why they invited you
Ugh
Surely you can't be serious?
There is a correlation between caps lock and lack of understanding of humour.
You are proof.
It was supposed to be absurd.
