It isn't true that the Soviet economy couldn't sustain growth, it grew steadily from 1945 to 1980.

That's a bit unlikely.
With American out of the picture, the Saudi and Iran aren't here to mess with religious extremism, and islamic movements with leftist characteristics would come to power in the middle east. Just look at the baathist, Nasser, and all.
Also, without the military stress of the USA against it, it could be possible to imagine the soviet tanstionning towards Cybersyn, following the model of a non coup Allende.
Automated communism, now that's something new and interesting. ^^

There would still be opposition to those regimes like what happened in Afghanistan and Syria. Not to mention Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are still around.
