WE'RE BACK! And we have a LOT of riggory to catch up on! Canada's Drag Race 4 breathed new life into the series and won over a lot of people (myself included) who had given up on the series as a whole. From iconic fights, fun challenges, top tier runways, and plenty of great lip syncs, there's so much to love about this season.
But weaved through the entirety of it is some major favoritism of two particular contestants. In a season that felt like the conclusion was planned from the jump, they couldn't stick the landing and disappointed fans with its less than stellar finale.
We'll break down all of the riggory, the storylines, and the Melinda Verga of it all. From Aurora Matrix's fan reception, the hate for Denim, Venus' perceived planned win, and robberies like Kitten Caboodle, we'll break down every episode of the season and determine: is it rigged?

Honestly the moment Venus got a rose for her entrance look I knew she would make it to the finale no matter how good or bad she did.

My biggest frustration with this season is that the asian queens Aurora Kiki and Melinda made the season with the performances looks and drama respectively, and in the end it feels like once again they got pushed to the side
At some point in the season, the cast was 3 out of 6 asian queens. That was my personal peak-

White Queens get a pass for being shady and doing less than POC Queens from some of the judging and the fans

I genuinely cannot wrap my head around why Aurora Matrix was not crowned the winner. The math ain't mathin'-
I feel the same; though I’m not mad about Venus winning but I do think that Aurora would have been a better choice simply because of track record.

It’s mainly because of her story. Aurora was superior in EVERY way, but she didn’t have the storyline the producers wanted. Venus had first out energy with her lazy drag.
I mean, average wise... They had the same track record. While Aurora may have won two challenges, Venus never flopped. There's points to be main for highs and lows, but there's also points to be made for consistency. Plus, Aurora fully FLOPPED that final song challenge@@sweetandkindhearted

Melinda made the season for me. I haven't loved a queen this much since Icesis.
This season had the best twist and the best interpretation of the lip sync tournament. I wonder how S15 would have been with THIS type of a lip sync tournament. We would have gotten THREE Sasha Colby lip syncs! (Maybe a video idea?, then we could have had a double elimination there and have a double save or even better an episode with no one going home for something like Wigloose when everyone did amazing). I just hope the main franchise uses it as well if they do a lip sync tournament for S16
I also wanted this type of lip sync tournament for AS7 as a challenge; imagine instead of having it decide the winner (which made no sense and forced such obvious production interference) that they would do the talent show last and a lip sync tournament as a penultimate episode giving a star for each win (thus likely giving Shea 2 stars and Monet 3)
That picture of Melinda has been used sm and will continue to be used for plenty of thumbnails😂. This season was so wild and honestly a great twist it’s simple but it made for good tv as shown we Melinda was saved to give us a great lip sync (which had an obvious winner I didn’t understand it being a double save). I thought Aurora won the finale from the runway and lipsync but congrats to Venus.

One thing I will say is that during the Makeover challenge this season - they never once referred to "family resemblance" and instead talked about "wanting a drag transformation". Which I generally preferred since the "family resemblance" critique is almost always bullshit, but it does give some mixed messaging in a video like this because it feels like it was judged differently than other seasons (where Aurora's near identical look might have been praised)
If Melinda makes it onto a Vs. The World, Global All Stars, or ANY Ru judged season... oh she's taking it. Her charisma is unstoppable and we are reciprocating it with GRATITUDE

@@ireneasare9552 I just checked and I'm pretty sure they didn't? They didn't say it when introducing the challenge (Brad said they were looking for "a makeover that makes them look, act and feel like red carpet royalty", nothing about family resemblance), and I didn't hear it said in either the workroom talks or the judges critiques, unless I missed something.
It is possible one of the queen's referenced "family resemblance" in a confessional, but I don't think it was ever said by the judges.

Venus and Aurora were my top 2 from the jump, I was so happy to see them in the finals and I can’t wait for Melinda Verga to become the next jujubee *pls I’m begging*

she was not once a star, she had one good runway in her whole run and not one good performance! not an all star in any sense of the word
I honestly think the girlfriend experience had so much to offer but way too much overthinking and let her inner sabotage get her to not push herself!
about aurora being low on the makeover for looking too similar to her partner: that's just NOT what they said?? She was on the bottom because her partner just looked the same in and out of drag and her look was just a MESS from behind??
Aurora also fully got the musical win when several other queens deserved it more

Kiki is from my hometown and she has made a LOT of the garments you saw in seasons 1-3. She's one of the best costume makers on any drag race franchise
YES, like officially with the occasional Melinda design. She's so talented and amazingly sweet
Brooke’s fashion is amazing, her runways floor me and everyone I know nearly every week.
I honestly do not know what you mean by that. I think Kiki is one of the best designers the franchise has ever seen, but Brooke definitely doesn’t need it like a Mama Pao or Rupaul herself. Haha
Btw I totally agree about the spoilers thing, the only recent spoilers I looked at was for UK vs the world 2, and that was months ago. I pay so much more attention when I don’t know who’s going home and now watching season 16 I’m so intrigued to see who’ll make it all the way
i try to avoid spoilers all the time but i’m constantly getting spoilers for seasons unprompted in random comment sections, sometimes even literally in official videos 😭😭
It’s pretty much impossible to avoid spoilers now unless you go off the grid. You post a comment like “I like butter toast” and someone will comment “X goes home next week” like ???

I was thinking that Venus probably won because she did well during the comedy challenges, so if they were looking at overall performance, they may have thought she was more well-rounded. That's not to say Aurora wasn't a super fierce competitor though, I would've been happy with her winning too!

Mother Melinda was made for TV. She really carried this season on her back. I love her so much and I really hope Ru sees her flipping that table because i know if she did, Melinda's spot on all stars is basically secured. She is so iconic and will always be mothrr

Sisi was not btm two that challenge, not from what we saw. There were queens that literally almost did nothing

I introduced my cousin to drag race with this season. She has cerebral palsy and usually at home so i was like- hey lets watch this show together! She loved venus so much and was so happy to see her win. I personally was rooting for Aurora but this season was very good It was not terrible.
I agree that Venus may have been propped up a bit, but she never bombed any challenge, was consistent, and constantly delivered. Plus, she was (dare I say) more charming and had a more "winner" energy than her runner-up. The confidence, the readiness to do any challenge thrown at her, and her authentic self hooked me instantly. I'm not saying Aurora didn't deserve to win. I think there is an argument to be made for both, but I feel like Venus is a better winner choice than Aurora. Absolutely love Aurora though. She's literally an icon.

Wait, what was the tea on Mona Moore?
She performed a number to colors of the wind from Pocahontas on Canada Day 2022, which is like 4th of July. Many First Nations people do not celebrate Canada day bc of the horrible racist treatment the govt of Canada inflicted upon First Nations tribes, as well as the fact that she used a song from a Disney property which wildly misinterpreted the story of the actual person known as Pocahontas. I guess she was removed from the cast as a result of all of this.

I mean I understand the production is free to work with whoever they want and maybe they wanted to cut someone who got backlash, whatever, but in the end, it's just a song? @@ecenbt I genuinely have not found any other reason as to why she would’ve been cut after being cast - she had apologized back in 2022 and worked with First Nations groups to educate herself. I’d love to give you another possible reason, I just haven’t seen anything

I loved this season so much and I like the twists they had. The only change that really confused me was the rose bud thing they did episode one. Nothing really came of it. Was it just to tell the audience who to look out for?

I felt so heartbroken that Aurora didn't win that i almost didn't watch the video 😂 but this season was top tier entertainment regardless, i really love all the cast

The fact that I was living for this season then finding it beyond meh to then COMPLETELY living for this season just reignited my love for Drag Race. The thrill of getting more and more excited and I'm not ashamed to admit I listed to The Love Bugs song repeatedly.

Aurora slayed the lipsync and the runway, but I didn't really like her song. I feel like Venus's song was by far the best and only one that was kinda catchy.
Tbh i feel like what made the season so good, is that there was no real winner edit. So it was everybodys game at some point and it made the season interesting and very watchable
I didn't even finish the season and I was sure Venus was gonna win (despite comparative performance) and no one over 30 was gonna be in the final

How did nobody of judges say anything about how wrong Melinda’s makeup is?
I genuinely enjoyed this season. There were so many twists and turns that made it exciting to watch. My only wish for next season is to have a bigger cast so there can be slightly more episodes (i.e. 12-13). I think the finale episode - in particular, the same song used 4 times and the winner choice - left a bad mark on the season.
I read a comment online that Venus wouldn't have won if Ru and and Michelle were judges; to an extent, I agree cuz they would have criticized her for her drag aesthetic choices regarding the minimal makeup, lack of padding etc. Nonetheless, she performed well on the season, so I understand why she won.
Venus felt like the only person who couldve won because she was the only one who didnt bomb like half the challenges while also having like a drop of charisma
Sorry but Venus got A LOT of push when sometimes she needed to be in bottom 3 if not bottom 2. Her track record wouldn't have been this clean if not for this push

I find the outrage at Venus’ win to be kinda dumb, the girl just did the best. She got a lot of praise cause she was consistently performing well which can’t be said for the other girls (though Aurora did good throughout too). I saw it as an almost even race between Venus and Aurora and it was so even to me that I had to split hairs and at the end of the day, Aurora had some forgettable to bad episodes at the beginning while Venus was consistently good throughout the entire thing so I think she deserves to get her flowers. I also far prefer a predictable winner edit over an out-of-nowhere winner edit a la Willow Pill’s or when the winner is favored to no end by production a la Jimbo so Venus is a stand-out modern winner in my eyes tbh. The only real righory I saw was Kiki’s elimintion, she absolutely won that lip sync and should’ve stayed over Denim. But I see why they made that decision, they wanted the competition to be more even and Kiki had been in the bottom too much to add tension to the finale, while Denim only had the singular stumble.

Melinda was a great TV personality but her makeup was so... I personally couldn't stand the way she looked and the fact she got very few notes/critiques on her mug seems unfair
I can't over the fashion critiques about Melinda in the musical episode. Not only do I think she looked great but it was wedding themed and she wore a red dress??? Melinda is really that wedding guest that slept with the groom and wanted everbody to know. I thought it was such a serve.

When Venus got the rosebug in that TERRIBLE look it was obvious that she was the production favorite. That was one of the worst looks I ever so in drag race.

Canada 4 is the first season of drag I couldn't complete... and I completed both seasons of Down Under!
For me, Aurora was completely fine. Seemed nice and enthusiastic but lacked any charm she or spark except for when she lip synced. I think fans rallied so hard behind her bc they perceived her as the only contender not being pushed by producers like they thought Venus and denim were. For me her rusical win could’ve gone to Venus, bc I didn’t think she was emoting very well and her section had no words to memorize which seemed a bit unfair to me. Plus that runway was bad imo. I like her but I think fans are blinded by their perception of things rigged or people being pushed.

aurora’s role in the rusical required the most technical skill so i think she got the win cause they recognized that she had the hardest role and killed it other than the wigline. iirc brooke mentioned how hard that role was during critiques to emphasize how impressive aurora’s performance was.
if not aurora then it would’ve been neerah since her role was the 2nd hardest and she definitely gave the most brooke out of everyone
i 100 % agree with this. Was not that impressed by Aurora overall and though she was handed the musical win. I would not have given Venus the 1st challenge win, but the musical.

I definitely feel the drag race fatigue. For this season of Canada my partner and I did a fantasy draft of the queens and it made it much more enjoyable. I found myself rooting for queens I wouldn't normally
With this, lets hope we get the unrigging of canada 1 and the riggory and unrigging of Canada 2 and 3

I do believe Aurora won the entire season. She didn’t demolish everything but didn’t very well with the most wins, fan votes to win and a great story arc to imo. I call robbed but I’m not angry Venus won. I just think she was pushed with too many highs I don’t think we’re valid. Very good season tho
She did not deserve her second win though, that was produced. And Venus did not deserve her first

The entire season was really good, I liked it a lot 😊 is sad that even in challenges that, example, Aurora did better there's some "But Venus is winning" edit.
