Goku couldn't leave Cell in space because his Instant Transmission locks on to someones energy signature. If there isn't an energy source in space for him to teleport to it wouldn't work.

@@franciscodiaz5610 whooping Cough was a VERY severe Disease in like the (80s*) It was dangerous for Teens and adults but FATAL for children and infants. Highly contagious. And killed a lot of kids. So cells makes a joke saying that he should call Gohan Whooping cough because he slaughter his children just like whooping cough killed children. The joke being that Cell is so ruthless he has no sympathy for his own children. Dark Humor

The reason why Goku brought Cell to King Kai’s planet was because he didn’t know how big the explosion was gonna be. Cell could’ve blown up the entire solar system. Just leaving him in space isn’t how Instant Transmission works. He has to lock onto a person’s power signature and teleport there. King Kai’s was the more logical location because it was waaaaaaaay far away from Earth and it’s solar system. He says this in the show. It was the only place he knew far enough to take Cell without endangering anyone else.
You got it right...except for one small detail : when Cell said he can destroy a hole solar system, it wasn't when he was self-bomb-suicide, but when he was casting his final kamehameha to struggle with Gohan's father-son-kamehameha, so basically when he became...let's say "more-than-perfect"...kinda'.
He came to kings kai because he didbt know where else to go, not because how big the explosion was gonna be
It’s actually both reasons. He needed to get somewhere really far from Earth where the explosion couldn’t do much harm to people, and King Kai’s planet was the only place he knew where to bring Cell.

junior gunter Well, and krillin, he destroyed the remote. If he had used it Vegeta couldn't have srewed up. Or you know, they could've wished goku's illness away with the dragon balls and have him destroy all androids before cell even appeared.
It's kinda on all of them, some because of what they did, the others because of what they didn't do.

Even if they can't bring back goku in trunk's timeline they could still bring back all the rest, included earth''s decimated population and the dragon balls C. Baba brought back Goku in the buu arc for a day or two. What's stopping her from doing it in Trunk's timeline?

@@denickart It's stated when he talks about how he learned it, not in the Z dub. A more recent example, Resurrection F, getting to earth from Beerus Planet he needed a ki signature.
Rinnemi Oh no I'm just being humble. I'm actually positive he can IT anywhere he can see since he often uses it to circle around his opponents. If it were only ki signature he shouldn't have any control over where he is on proximity to the ki

Instant transmission relies on Goku sensing an energy signature and teleporting to it (or nearby to it depending on where he wants to appear in relation to who's energy he's locked on to) So he couldn't teleport Cell somewhere where no one's around.
Or it has to be a place he's been to before as well.

@@alexiscampuzano9299 I think what he meant there is the basic rule of teleportation in most fantasy.. If you're familiar with an area, teleporting there becomes much easier. Though technically non-canon, this concept was brought in to Instant Transmission in GT.
@@Nobody-bp5wh GT is not "technically" non-canon, it's non-canon. So it's rules don't really matter. And no Instant Transmission NEEDS a power source to lock onto. Even if it's somewhere he's been to before that doesn't matter.

I think the reason he didn't was because the instant transmission requires him to sense someone's energy and teleport relative to where that person is. So at that point the only person he knew that wasn't on Earth was king kai

To Magnus (and anyone else wondering): The reason Goku doesn't just transport Cell to the middle of empty space is because instant transmission doesn't work like that. You have to detect a ki source and then transmit next to it-meaning you have to transmit next to somebody. Goku took Cell to King Kai's world because it's populated only by three people for whom death is basically meaningless anyway.
Sensing Ki helps prevent teleporting into things such as the ground. However, It has never been stated that it's a requirement by any of the 5 characters who use Instant Transmission in the series.
even if he could teleport anywhere he still can't breathe in space so the second he's out there the vacuum is going to get him even then goku doesn't really know any direction to the nearest planet

In DBZA, pretty sure it works as long as he thinks it. Judging by his explanation of it and actually teleporting into empty space in the Broly movie.
Well, in the Broly movie, the legendary super saiyan leaves a ki signature/trail in the area he destroyed. So that's kinda what they were going by in dbza.

At 13:54 minutes in... such a solution wouldn't work - Goku can only use Instant Transmission to go to a *Ki signature* i.e. another being; he can't just go to an empty part of space. He had a choice of somewhere else on Earth (which would then still be destroyed), New Namek (thus killing all Namekians, numbering at least in the hundreds) or King Kai's planet (which means only Goku, King Kai, Gregory and Bubbles get killed). As he says, he couldn't think of anywhere else to go, because there was nowhere else he could go, if he wanted to minimize the losses. And it would be a real d*ck move to IT to King Kai and then go back to Earth before Cell's self-destruct, so he stayed and died along with them.
I'VE ALWAYS WONDERED. WHY DIDNT ANY OF THE Z FIGHTERS FLY UP TO SPACE, THEN GOKU CAN TELEPORT CELL TO THE GUY IN SPACE THEN TELEPORT THE GUY BACK AND LEAVE CELL BEHIND???? I MEAN, THEY ARE ALL EXTREMELY FAST RIGHT??

They didn't have time to sit down and bang out the best strategy. Goku knew he could teleport Cell away in the shortest time, and so chose to sacrifice himself. And yes, they may be fast, but not so fast as to do what you said in the time available, not without being able to use IT themselves, which only Goku was able to do.
Because unlike Cell and Frieza, none of the Z-Fighters can survive the vacuum of space. Goku apparently can once he becomes a Super Saiyan God but before that, any of them going to space would have just died immediately.

Him order to use instant transmission goku has to lock into the power level of something. So if there’s no one in the the area that he can teleport to then he can’t teleport. He has to have a power level to lock on to. Same scenario if said persons power level isn’t high enough for goku to feel.

That would be a good plan, but I'm pretty sure canonically Goku has to lock on to somethings energy signature to transport to it. So it would be impossible to just take Cell to somewhere in nowhere space.
So in a way taking him to king kai's planet was the smartest thing to do, as there are only 3 people (4 if you count bardock) and they are all already in the afterlife. Anywhere else he could have taken cell would have killed an entire planet's worth of people.
