  • This video demonstrates a little-known app called Divisimate which can split MIDI input in realtime. I explore both the practical and creative possibilities in the context of my new orchestral template in Logic Pro X. This video is not sponsored.

    EDIT: the reason you have to record-enable specific tracks (as opposed to record-enabling all) with this setup is not a Logic specific issue but an inherent problem due to the limited number of Divisimate ports - so each articulation will share the port number and thus midi data will get sent to every articulation at once. Exclusively using sample libraries like Audio-modelling which allow for different articulations from a single track without keyswitching would result in a much cleaner workflow. Alternatively, delimiting the number of patches which use can Divisimate (e.g. only using it for legato patches) and then grouping them together in the template might be another route to take.

    Great video Vince and agree with your points about having a trial version, plus that it takes some tweaking in how to use it when writing in a more traditional virtual instruments.

    ok NOW I HAVE SOMETHING! Was looking for this since ever. Not let’s see if it adapts well with the standard workflow

    21:30 the truth is: most videos are absolutely poor regarding up-to-date workflow ideas for classical composition! Your two videos on this topic go in the direction of some ideas i have been testing, and are relatively original. But regarding articulation there is something about articulation cross fade and layering around the youtube as well, but not extensive. The only difference is that i test longer before blowing the whistle as the solution ;)

    Hey Vince - I have secretly been using Divismate for years now composing professionally an love it - but just recently upgrade logic to 10.7 - I had to do all this old routing on the back end to get divismate to work in the past - Im wondering how to now get it to work like this for the new version. I don't want to redo my template just want to reroot so it works like this as you example. Does that make sense? In the past I could only do 16 voices at a time - 16 ports. Now I want to do this way you just showed. Was curious on any info on this! - Thanks

      Hey Nick! Logic 10.7 eliminates the need to do any routing setup - you just set the 'Midi In Port' on the track to the appropriate Divisimate channel. divisimate.com/logic-quickstart/#:~:text=1)%20Open%20a%20session%20in,Divisimate%20Port%2001%E2%80%9D%20as%20Input.

    any suggestions using divisimate with hardware synth/samplers ??

      It's pretty simple to incorporate synths using Logic's 'External Instrument' feature and setting the MIDI in port to Divisimate. I think creating some custom patches which combine VST's with analog synths could be a lot of fun for improvising, and that could in turn spark an idea for a piece.

    It would have helped you if you turned on your metronome bro...

    And how did you route to articulations?

    • @vincecomposer
      @vincecomposer  Před rokem

      In this template I have each articulation setup as a separate track so you just record-arm the appropriate channel in your DAW. All the articulations for a single instrument share one MIDI in port. Of course you could set it up differently if you wanted to record 2 articulations for the same instrument simultaneously using divisimate. Cheers for watching!
