KRX vs KRX es - Is It Worth the Extra Cash?

  • If you've watched our channel, you know we love the KRX. It is one of the best machines on the market for a variety of reasons. Ride quality, fit and finish, performance, and value are all top notch. Since the ES was announced, we've wondered how it would perform against a KRX with a few grand in mods. We put Garretts KRX with shock work by Shock Therapy and aftermarket seats from HSP. These upgrades put the cost of Garretts KRX in the ballpark of the cost of a stock KRX. So how do they compare? Watch the video to find out!

    I'm in the market of getting a new KRX 1000 and looking at there website from a year ago of thinking of getting one to now stock Krx's start at 23.2k and the ES is 25.7k. I haven't noticed any differences still. So I'm glad you guys did a review over the "overall looks and diffrences" between stock and ES. And I'm definnly will lean more towards stock. Crazy how the market has changed for basic pricing from couple years ago till now. Thanks again!

    Thank You, for the comparison and some great information on the Kawasaki KRX. I decided to buy the Kawa KRX base model after some basic research and tire kicking. I put down a deposit for a new 22 as soon as it's available. After I get some time on the machine I have plans to upgrade and upfit with accessories. Seats and 4 or 5 point belts are now at the top of my list (thank you). My feeling is that a shoulder/lap belt does not provide enough support and possibly safety in this type of equipment. I wish that Kawasaki would have incorporated that feature or factory option into this machine, I would spring the extra $$$ for that. This will be my first S x S and I am looking forward to many miles out running trails soon. Subscribed

    Love the channel. Disagree with the take on the screen. I'm a software engineer and have worked with wake boats, wind turbines, to industrial grade farm irrigation tech, and touchscreen would be a nightmare in this thing. The toggle switches are considerably more durable/weather resistant, and can be cheaply replaced without replacing the whole screen. They will also operate without the need for special screen gloves. I think that Kawasaki planned on people spending $24k will take the time to learn how to use the screen.

    I got the eS with ST dual rate springs. I wouldn't hesitate again to go with the eS now. If you're on the fence about adding iQS and springs to your base KRX, go with the eS. The live valve shocks flow 10٪ more than the non-live valve - and iQS can't add that.

    I have a 2021 Es and my springs are sagged out as I have added extra weight to the machine with accessories. Shock Therapy does not have springs for the Es but they told me that they have plans to have some in the future. I don't know if I would buy springs from Bandit as I am not familiar with them. What I have found with my machine is when riding in dusty conditions which is not just a Es model condition that the stock paper and RC2 paper air filter will indeed let dust pass through them into the engine. Many months ago I modified and adapted a triple element UNI Foam Air Filter to work in my car and after months of testing I have not had any dust pass through the filter into the engine. Problem solved for me! Long time mechanic here. Beware! Just thought I would pass it on.

    The price between your upgraded KRX and an eS is not that big. I like how you point out what a person CAN do with a stock KRX but like you mentioned, it'd been better to compare a stock machine to the eS. I get it though. I have the eS because I HATE money. Sure I could have set up a stock KRX to be better but I wanted the color screen and on the fly suspension shifting.
    Whether one buys a stock KRX or the eS is of no importance as BOTH WILL eventually be upgraded. Hell, we ALL upgrade our shocks to Shock Therapy or others do we not? Even the top of the line Popo Turbo S's and Pro XP owners do. It's crazy, but we all do. So what potential buyers ought to be thinking about is upgrading the eS seats and springs as you did and then compare the price difference between the two. Will the eS be THAT much better and worth the 4 grand? Possibly. Just to know you have the top of the line in and of itself is noteworthy.
    I feel ya on the touchscreen, or lack thereof. But this will keep me from scratching the screen to high heaven. And holy moly, I can barely touch anything on screens when bouncing around. The big rockers are big for a reason. Easy to reach.
    Really though, riding for only an hour for a review is doing a disservice to yourselves and your viewers. I'm coming from a 2016 XP 1000 n.a. but upgraded with all the trimmings and at first I wasn't sure I liked the new KRX. Plus I was in my break in period so that made things worse not being able to push some serious skinny pedal, but the ride got better by the 3 hour mark and I'll leave my old machine to the wayside in favor of this for sure. I was so in-tune and familiar with my old ride that it takes awhile to recognize the subtle nuances of a different machine. Sort of like comparing high end speakers and even headphones. You simply need more time to allow your brain to notice the difference.
    Thanks for the review though as you show potential buyers they needn't go with the eS to have the best as going base model and tossing a few bucks at it can make it equal or potentially surpass the top of the line for $4000 or less. Just saying, wish you had a bit more time to become familiar with the new eS and then do a comparison.

    • @Bizill75
      @Bizill75 Před 2 lety +1

      I'll add that in a 4 hour ride I played with my settings about a Bizillion times. And as you say, there is a noticeable difference so it's not just money wasted on a gimmick. I see a G-out coming up out of nowhere and it's so easy to switch the dial to firm and then right back afterward. Worth the upgrade for sure for my taste.

    • @Bizill75
      @Bizill75 Před 2 lety

      Sorry, one more addition. The clanking whilst riding is due to the shock separator hitting the crossovers. There's a dude on ebay selling cushions for that and mine should be arriving soon. Just like Shock Therapy has the orange o-rings for their silent crossovers, but these are like a flat profile rubber ring vs an o-ring. Yes, that clanking drives me nuts. I'm guessing the lower tier KRX's don't do this?

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  Před 2 lety +1

      You make a lot of great points in your comments. We had the machine for a few hours and I have plenty of seat time in my KRX at this point. More seat time in the ES would not change my opinion. With that being said if I had a stock one like we planned originally it could have been a completely different outcome. As far as the controls it’s not as much about the touch screen but more about the funky rockers. Spending 4K more Kawasaki needed to add those to the steering wheel for really easy access. Steering controls are the best way to go for a electronic setup like our Pro has. Also you’re right about suspension work in everything you get these days. Overall besides spending more money you can’t go wrong with either model. -Garrett

Also, a proper review would have been to include a truly stock KRX in the mix; it's not really fair to include the $1800 shock kit. I was going to do that to mine several times and every time I wanted to, it was going to take several MONTHS to get it done, so I never did.
