I had this laptop and returned it for the 2024 Blade 18. I couldn’t stand not having gsync and the blade 18 has the best panel in the world right now with the 300hz 2560x1600 mini led with gsync. My tool measured it peaking at 1300 nits in dgpu mode with hdr !

I've always found MSI lacking. They have always felt cheap to me even if sometimes commanding one of the highest prices for a desk top replacement class laptop. Razer has been my go to aside for 2023 when I switched to a pro-art for work stuff but as soon as they released the oled razer 16 I picked one up. wish they would release a 4k oled razer 18 tho

@@boost91 I mean it's a pretty good laptop. The problem is in MSI's marketing. It's definitely slightly overpriced though for sure. MSI definitely shouldn't be marketing this as a gaming laptop first. They need to market it as just being able to do literally everything you throw at it well without compromise because that's what it does.
It's literally the only laptop out right now that can be used for virtual machines and servers due to it's expandable ram and storage slots, it has a 4k screen like the Blade, but it has a much higher ppi which is essential for content creation. It's the only mini led 4k panel out too. Razer still isn'y offering it in their 4k 2024 blade only the qhd 300hz blade. Literally is the brightest laptop screen you'll find on a laptop right now. Thing is fucking blinding lmao.
Also while being able to game. Yeah lack of gsync sucks for some people, but I honestly think gsync is overrated and not as big a deal as people make it. Should it exist on a laptop at this price though? Oh yeah absolutely. 😂
It also has better thermals than the Blade by far. Blade year to year is one of the worst performing laptops if not the worst consistently and also suffers battery bloating at a higher margin than other laptops. Literally only advantage of the Blade right now is it's more portable and it has thunderbolt 5.
I only compare it to the Blade because for what these two laptops are meant for given their IO (SD card reader slot for example) they're the only two laptops that you can choose from. Sure the Alienware m18 exists with a SD card reader slot but you can't get that laptop in 4k which is essential for content creation so it doesn't even compete. The Titan is just not a gaming laptop like they're marketing it to be. I had the laptop but I returned it basically because my current laptop does what I need it to do. So I returned it because of the price point. If it was like $800-$1k cheaper definitely would've kept it.

The 2013 model was on my short list with the SCAR 18 but I got the AW M18R1 instead maxed out for $2800 on sale. The screen isn't on par as the rest but is good enough, but performance is on par for 800+ and double that for the MSI. Still happy with the AW a yr later. Still, a Titan is a dream machine.

  • @erikglimpse

I'm not buying another MSI laptop until they start supporting Gsync again. I switched to the Asus Strix Scar 16 (2023, 4090), which does support Gsync with it's 1000 nit 240hz 2k mini-LED screen. It's been my main driver for more than a year, and I love it.
I do miss the mechanical keyboard, the larger screen, and the thick feeling of my old MSI Titan (9980HK, 2080 mobile, 4k 60hz), but the lack of Gsync support really killed the gaming experience.
If anything, I would upgrade to the 2024 Scar 18 for the 18" screen with the same specs, and that's it.
I've never been impressed with Razer's products, which includes their mice and keyboards. Their accessories always break prematurely. If they don't get that right, then how could I trust their laptop manufacturing process?

  • @crazyelf1
    @crazyelf1 Před 29 dny +2

There are a couple of issues I see - no G-Sync and Advanced Optimus, as you noted is a big letdown. Otherwise this is the fastest gaming laptop of this generation.
Another is that the speakers should be as good as the Asus G16 or Apple Macbrook Pro 16 at this price point. They are loud, but the audio quality is lacking for sure.
I wish they would have adopted the LPCAMM memory standard. it would resolve the slow SO-DIMM with 4 slots populated (that's a limitation of the SO-DIMM standard).
Finally, I don't understand why not all keys are mechanic. They used regular keys for the Numpad. Why cut costs on a laptop at this price point?

If you're doing literally only gaming yeah sure. Those are the obvious choices and way better price point. This laptop is made more for those that are doing gaming and content creation. That's why it has a higher resolution screen, consideraly higher ppi than the strix scar 18 and has a SD card reader slot and more upgradeable ram and storage slots. It's a laptop that is basically content creation first

For me it just wasnt worth it - i tested it but the display for me was a no-go!
I did enjoy the higher TDP for the CPU but the tradeoffs werent worth it - it was too loud - the speakers sucked and i personally do not like a 4k Screen with a 4090 Laptop. The Keyboard was nice but for some reason very tin like sounds when i pressed them. I was never able to get more than 4000mhz with however many ram sticks except for my standart 32GB which were at 5200... now with the Blade 18 i have 64GB with 5600mhz - so i dont think this is an intel problem...
In the end I decided to get the new Razer Blade 18 with the MiniLED Screen and 300hz with GSync :D Best decision - performance is really not that big of a difference and its just way more portable :)

I too went the same route. I tested the 2024 Titan 18, 2024 Scar 18, 2024 Blade 18 and 2023 Alienware m18 r1 AMD edition and I went with the Blade 18 mainly because it just wasn't the best at one thing and played the middle ground and was still a bit cheaper than the Titan. Although the 2023 Alienware m18 r1 AMD Edition was the actual winner when testing all laptops against each other. The Blade 18 was just more suited for something I will like to use for the next year.
