Welcome to my long-format waffling on about recording. There is a central point that I eventually get to (vaguely) but it takes a while. This is a long-assed rant about where I'm at with getting myself together to start recording in my studio again in 2024. If you can get through this documentary then you're an absolute champion. Unlike me you didn't die in 2024 from excessive waffling. Seriously though this documentary contains some recording studio talk and recording philosophy.

Josh, I loved seeing so much of the studio. Beautiful sound and film here. I've fallen victim to this problem, and I need to session myself. "The Problem of Time"

I’m completely with you in this spirit Josh. Yes it is definitely the problem of time. Thank you man.

The line between conscious noodling and genuine creativity (which is divine) is sometimes just a matter of realisation.

Never underestimate the power and importance of collaboration, creative interaction with a different human being with different goals and motivations. The pressures of a solo enterprise, despite a specific appeal, are infinite.

What I have done is take an old school approach, me and by buddy have just wrapped "preproduction" where we demoed all our songs, finalized arrangements in a way where we can get riffs, drums, bass parts, basically everything but solos and vocals and lyrics done. Now we are spending the next few months practicing parts and splitting duties on lyrics and vocals. Then we will self track our final parts. We already did the most herculean part, which is finalizing the songs structurally in a less stressful environment by just calling it a demo.
Then we set a hard deadline to when the album is being released. We took 4 months to do preproduction, now we have another 6 months to finish lyrics, finalize solos, and records final takes of everything and mix it.

My grandmother choked to death on a waffle.
I am triggered, hurt, and profoundly discombobulated by your insensitive video.
I am also shocked that discombobulated is recognized by Grammarly.

just getting into home recording as i am fully retired at 60 and have a bunch of songs still to do...
    here's my waffling problem:
1> i have, my whole life, obsessively self-loathed..so unless someone tells me it's the best recording they have ever heard, i will always believe i didn't do it good enough (i still won't believe them but you just go with it)...
2> i have one stereo setup that i trust for the best sound: my 2007 grand caravan with a cheap after market with no sub...it cranks, it gives a really nice bottom end...it just sounds awesome for some reason...
and it drives me crazy what i have to do...
so when i started playing with bandlab, i would have to mix the song, then master it, then take it to the car, listen to it, and then go back and fix the mistakes...
