HOW TO: Shiny Hunt Lapras in FireRed/LeafGreen [Repel Trick]

  • Hey! This is my first time making an informative video on a shiny hunt! I know ZoroarksClone made a video about how to find shiny Lapras in FR/LG, but I haven't seen anyone talk about the repel trick to make it more common, but with a slower encounter rate. Let me know if I missed any crucial steps, or if you know of another factor that could make this easier! Thank you for watching, and I hope this is useful for some people! :)

    I noticed Jesus Ramirez in the comments mentioned how Mr. Mime with Soundproof and Skill Swap is the most important Pokémon, and he is right in a way that cannot be stressed enough.
    The reason for this is that Soundproof WON'T BLOCK Perish Song for Pokémon other than Soundproof users, which means that Lapras would still be affected.
    This is why you need a Lv. 36 Mr. Mime with a Speed of at least 80 to outspeed even the fastest wild Lapras (79 max Speed at Lv. 45 with a Speed-boosting nature).
    Luckily the Mr. Mime obtained from the in-game trade has the ability Soundproof as well as the Timid nature with a Speed IV of 24, meaning that even without any EVs it would reach a Speed of 85 at Lv. 36, this is crucial because it means that Mr. Mime can fire off the Skill Swap before Lapras even gets the chance to use Perish Song.
    Use that extra bit of info very well.

    Currently doing the repel trick in black 2. When I use up all my repels I soft reset to not keep spending money on them. Does that mess up the shiny odds. Or is it 1 in 8000 in every Pokemon you encounter. So can I keep soft resetting or do I need to save my game to keep the odds higher? Currently at 1800 re's

    How does the Shuppet change the catch possibility? I don't understand this. Also, does it increase the chance if your Shuppet is HIGHER level?

    • @OzzyCharizard
      @OzzyCharizard  Před 3 lety

      It doesn't increase the catch chance, but rather the chance that one appears in the wild. This could be any pokemon, not just Shuppet. The main factor there is the fact that it is level 36. Level 36 allows for the HIGHEST percentage of Lapras to show up in the wild (that's just the way the game coded Lapras levels to be). So, in general, I could've used any pokemon as long as it was level 36 :)

    • @OzzyCharizard
      @OzzyCharizard  Před 3 lety

      If your pokemon is a HIGHER level, you run the risk of not seeing Lapras as much. You may still find it, but you won't have the greatest percentage chance

  • @BlackStarBigWave
    @BlackStarBigWave Před 3 lety

    Looking into this more I think Mr. Mime would be the best pokemon, for a shiny Lapras hunt. Hypnosis (Egg move) Trick, Encore. So you should be able to get a False swipe in. Also if you have two Mr. Mime's (one male and female "I think you can do that.") you could use Attract so it wouldn't use all it's PP right away when it wakes up. It also can learn Thunder Wave by move Tutor.

    • @OzzyCharizard
      @OzzyCharizard  Před 3 lety

      Excellent choice!! Seeing as how you get 1 from trade, it's definitely viable, and you could breed another for both genders. When I get back to hunting, I may make this swap.

    • @OzzyCharizard
      @OzzyCharizard  Před 4 lety

      Level 30 repel trick works too! Both methods are completely viable. Any Pokemon with soundproof works, but skill swap isn't 100% necessary. Assuming you come prepared with plenty of Ultra, Repeat or Timer Balls, this is a relatively simple catch :) good luck!

    Last thing, as a recommendation. Unless this was a live video for some reason, scripting would be a good idea, so that there aren't so many filler words, such as and/but/etcetera. I'm not a huge fan of editing, so I haven't eclipsed the 1k mark even, for subscribers. However, I do know this from recommendations from bigger CZcams channels (Graham Stephan, specifically, in his "CZcams Academy"). Maybe it'll help the growth for you. Good luck and thank you for the video, regardless of whether you make an updated "scripted" version.

    3:18 that's where your wrong. Taunt is the only way ( that I found) to stop this Lapras from killing itself with Perish song. Soundproof stops Perish song from killing you not Lapras.
    Sadly I've taken too long to tell you. Because I gave up trying to find a good replacement pokemon that wasn't Raticate with. Taunt, Super Fang, and Thunder Wave.
    Taunt also sucks in this game, because you can taunt and throw 1 pokeball and it's time to taunt again. So if you don't bring a masterball it's gonna be a fail.
