Exploring Abandoned Junkyard - Medlars Scrapyard Norwich UK

- In this episode we ride out to an abandoned scrapyard and take a walk round to see what is left of this amazing place.
This history.
Before the scrapyard the land it is based on was a pig farm and slaughter house which caused the death of a young man within the medlar family when a tipper lorry delivering pig feed to a shed hit a power line and electrocuted him. A scrapyard was then started and owned by Lenny Medler before closing down soon after his death in 1989 after being taken over by his wife. Nature has then been reclaiming it ever since. As scrap metal prices have fluctuated the council have been clearing the land slowly and during a surge in scrap metal prices in 2007 much of the scrapyard was cleared. The land was privately auctioned in 2018 although as of August 2018 the scrapyard has remained untouched. The buildings from the old farm and some vehicles are still left behind.

It's a simca van based on simca 1300 car from 1981/2. In its heyday, the yard was amazing. Check out spottedlaurels flickr album to get an idea!
Spot on, it’s a 1980 Dodge 1100 VF2, the front end has been removed as I took some photos of it not long before this video was made and the engine was there.

Yes, the accident was my uncle, Duke when he was young. It was very sad what happened to him and I'm gutted that I never got to know him.

Believe it or not, about 10 years ago, my work actually rebuilt a Morris 10 engine from where the really old cars are near the a40 van.

Nice to see people appreciate the history and the amazing place that it was/is.
It's a shame you see it now and not in the glorious times of yesteryear when it was absolutely chock full of all sorts of vehicles possible. You've gone at a point in time where its all mostly been cleared now. Honestly, it was ridiculous back in the day... this is just the dregs left over from what there used to be.

@@garyatkin851 my cousins purchased some of the land, which is the bits being cleared out. Think the rest of it was divided up and some randoms bought other sections of the whole lot.

I like this sort of thing, and skip diving and fixing things normal people throw away. It's a real 'bloke' thing I think.
The spooky music was good at the end, as the house looks like the sort of place kids would go to scare each other.
F'ing brilliant vid... now I am most disappointed that you did not make this into a "will it start" vid using the Side Kicks amazing skills. That old coach was a prime candidate. (Check out my mate Bruce Wilson with his will it start vids on abandoned vehicles)
