    Much thanks for the video. It gave me the confidence to replace the thermal pads once the process is shown. I do leave my pc to mine when not doing work or gaming. Using the recommended Thermalright Thermal Pad 2.0mm to replace just the VRAM and repasted with Noctua NT-H2, it went from 98-104°C down to 78 to 82°C while mining at 87 MH/s. Simply amazing, thank you.

    I just subscribed because this video proved to me that you don't play around and fudge tests. Thanks for the honest assessment on the cooling pads. By the way, the difference in the wattage between the 2 test configurations is insane. Almost 100 watts. Not to mention the fps differential of 13 fps, etc. Have you seen this kind of discrepancy in this test before? The fan(s) speed...wow. 800 vs 1700 for the 2 tests. That 1700 is going to cool the system better.

    I have the gigabyte 3080 ti and fortunately my temps go from 78-88 when mining and low to mid 80s gaming so I don't think it requires any action from me. Thankfully because the model I got has 4 year warranty which I don't want to void. but I figured I would check this out just so I'd have the knowledge.

    I have Zotac 3080 amo holo. My temp were core: 65 stuck, mem: 75-80. but hotspot was on 104.7 and it was throtlling hard. I repasted and changed the front thermalpads with coolermaster 2mm and now core temp is 75-77, mem: 75-80 and hotspot is still on 100-101 on max load but not throtlling. Should I need to replace backside pads too? I mostly use it for gaming.

    Good job replacing the pads. Yes, I'd leave the rear pads alone. I changed only the front. Temps went from the low 90s to low 80s so down about 10 degrees for the memory, plus I was able to take fan down from 70% to 65% and still have low temps.

    • @TechnologyHive
      @TechnologyHive Před 2 lety

      @Rein S Are you mining or just playing video games? 95c for the hotspot is rather high if you're just mining eth. However, if you're a miner mining on an algorithm like Ravencoin, which utilizes core, then I can see the gpu hot-spot being high. But 95c is still a bit too high.
      If I were you, I'd dismantle everything again, double check thermal paste application to make sure it is properly distributed all over the core, and that by sight, on the heatsink, it seems to have had a good amount of distribution from pressure.
      If the paste is not evenly distributed due to thermal pad resistance keeping the heatsink from applying the right amount of pressure, then the pads, for your case, might be 1.5mm or less.
      But everything checks out, and all is in order, then try a higher fan speed. I have mine at 80% on my 3070ti's and 3080ti. This made a huge difference. In fact, try this first.

    • @uopuarq
      @uopuarq Před 3 lety +2

      This mod will reduce the memory module temps, but raise temps for all other sensors (because heatsink is pulling more heat from the memory, it must pull less from other components). This is alright because thermal throttling in 3080s almost always comes from memory temps.
