Hey flair buddy them herrings remember the 3 s's shoot, shovel, shut up. If you see this comment and find it amusing please leave me a like flair
Kendall good idea but not legal like atall
@@anniejanke5599only illegal if you get caught
@@jakewalker4392 be careful some of those are tagged..
Do what Bama bass did, fertilize the pond and maintain a certain level of clarity(or even just for the first year. That way ur bait fish populations can establish before you add bass). Introduce more natural brush-like trees along the edges now and as the pond fills to ensure the minnows have a place to hide from herons. They will naturally want to be shallow to avoid predation.
It’ll be different way of doing it in Nebraska. Not as warm of water and the freeze in winter.
Decoy: Herons are territorial, so placing a decoy near your pond can deter other herons from landing. You can try a blue heron decoy, which has a majestic stance that can help prevent other herons from landing. However, herons are smart birds and may eventually catch on to the decoy. You can try moving the decoy around every few days or at least once per week.
Motion-activated sprinkler: Sprinklers that detect when someone or something is within range and fire a quick shot of water at the suspect can be useful for deterring herons.
Scarecrow: A motion-activated sprinkler that blasts the heron with water when it walks up can be an effective means of repelling predators.
Fishing line: Tying fishing line tautly around the edges of the pond can help.
Hiding places: Providing coverage can help your fish avoid the long and pointy beak of the heron.
Talk radio: Herons won't come around when there are people nearby.
Would using gator shapes in the water deter the herons?
Did you read anything I wrote in there? I doubt that would work.
This is a underrated comment!! Great information
The Wooded Beardsman used heron decoys on his channel for his trout pond build. It seemed to work for him
Nothing you can do to keep the herons out of a pond this big, just make sure you have plenty of cover.
14:22 "lets go check on the big animals" *goes to chickens* 😂😂😂
That clip 27:52 of big jr mag dumping the .50 cal is what pure happiness looks like
The pergola is just decorative. People usually grow flowering vines or grape vines on them which gives a natural way of keeping the rain off and sun away. It obviously takes established plants to get your enjoyment. I do like a party hut style with the rustic beam look/roof and maybe a fire brick pizza oven attached to it.
Fire brick sounds lit that or a pool house 🤷🏽♂️
Wrong they have ones with automatic roof so u can open the shades to what angle u want or close it
@FLAIR. You could get clear corrugated roof panels to put up on the pergola to prevent getting wet when it rains. If you do it properly the pergola can still be used as intended for vined flora. My usual favorites for pergolas are morning glories, honeysuckle and grapes. Aside from the grapes those I mentioned might also attract humming birds.
I will say though that most vined flora can get messy and be a pain to keep up when you are busy but grapes are nice to have.
With the herons you want heron decoys. You can also grab some wooden pallets, staple some artificial grass mats on top of them and than stuff the inside with some rocks to sink these structures in the shallows where the minnows frequently are. Basically you want to create cover for the baitfish so that the herons either can not get to them or see them. Its not just good for minnows but other fish fry as well.
Y’all should have a structure building contest for the pond
Teach Lucy to bark while chasing the birds away from the pond.
Record her barking and then get a motion detector that goes off with her barking when the birds show up.
Of course this means you'll have to find someone smarter than Lucy so they can teach her something.
Better give the job to Jake. He seems pretty smart. 👍
We use like big mirror balls that you can by and put on a post and the birds see their on reflection on it when they fly over it and it scares them so they fly away.
Get some big ol' fish in there soon. Ponds looking amazing day by day
Minnows do need a little bit of structure to spawn. Add in some spots of pea gravel in different areas of the ponds and at different depths since it’ll take the pond a while to fill. Couldn’t hurt to add some cinder blocks, small tunnels or some other structure to give the minnows some hiding spots where the water currently is to help keep them safe from the herons.
Blue Herons ate a bunch of Koi of mine and the FL wildlife instructed me ton get a cement blue heron which I painted to match, never had a problem again since they're territorial so you'll need like 4 or 5 around the pond!
You need to plant plants like ivy and other vines and train them to grow on the pergola. Plant them in boxes along the bottom of the pergola and let them grow up and over it. That is the point of a pergola when the vines growth gets out of control cut them back down to the boxes and repeat. Just my opinion and what I would do if I had a pergola.. love all your videos and I am always looking forward to your next upload!!
That sounds awesome!
Would grape vines do well?
Yes any kind of vibe would work well
Do grape vines 🍇
Grapes, Kiwis, literally any kind of vines would work. But ivy is a major mistake for sure. Once it's established it's almost impossible to control and confine in the place you've put it.
Fun fact; Labrador Retrievers were originally developed to help fishermen catch fish that escaped their nets. Lucy out here representing her breed to the fullest ❤😅
You know it’s a good day when flair posts
Andrew, I’ve been waiting your channel since “ How To Cast A Baitcaster (How To Not Get A Backlash).” Congratulations on all your success. Your career progression is truly amazing, hard earned, and well deserved.
Great comment - I agree with you 100%.
Love that. After showing Banjo & Jake, "Ok, there may be less than expected."😂 Sorry, Flair, I love how it looks!🛖 Love the covers! Great safety for the children!👧🏻 The backyard looks incredible!😮 Jim wants to know if he can keep them.🥜 Thank you for letting the ducks have their babies.🦆 You better do some research to protect that pond!💦 Lucy is absolutely hilarious!🐕
Usually you would let plants like ivy that will have coverage grow on the pergola for shade
I completly forgot about the wasp wars when banjo almost burned down the barn.😆😆

Cappppp nah I’m playing you got that just 36 atm🤣
For this comment do 10 extra for flair🦌
9 minutes and already 49 dang I’m be up late tonight
Why was this video so good keep it up flair love the pond ❤
Please do an episode cutting down the pergola and making it structure!
“Pork chop, look at them big ass ears pork chop, what you hearing pork chop?”😂😂😂
you get satellite on them things 😂😂😂
Yesss here we go ! Get rid of the pergola . Build what you mentioned in the video . That would look way better when it matches the house
Costco has a good one with a roof.
Oh yeah! one out of timber and grow some vine plants on it!
No it would not
But if you want shade, just go into his sun room or summer room with the doors that open all the way up. The whole reason you would spend that amount of money on it. The pergola is like a happy medium. Just grow some grape vines or jasmine with the white flowers and smell great! 🤔😅😅
And definitely try to structure the pergola
I think a pergola is pointless like you said. If i remember correctly Demo has gone and was going to put his grill or outdoor kitchen under it. If it rains you can't do anything under it though. I also wouldn't want grill marks for tan lines. Unless Macy is going to have some kind of vines growing on it. Trumpet vines attract hummingbirds. I would put a black roof or treated wood roof to match the wood you have on the house. Maybe a live stock guardian dog could chase the birds away?🤷♀️
Lucy won the fishing challenge today! 😀 🐕
This is a banger let’s go this will lead to some great vids. If you wanna see flair tag these fish⬇️⬇️⬇️
Been binge watching all of your old and new vids, none of them disappoint!
There are retractable canvas covers you can get for the pergola for more shade if you want it.
Some species of fish are seasonal and others are temperature. My fish tanks if I want my fish to breed I just do a water exchange and add cold water and it simulates spring and they breed whenever I want. So yes they can breed whenever and several times a year given the right conditions.
Ole swamp monster getting minners had me rolling 😂 FLAIR is over here worried about the Herons and lucy is out there getting it 😂
You should do a turkey hunting challenge this year
crazy that i started watching flair 4 years ago and he's still making banger vids
WAKE UP FLAIR UPLOADED 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Almost Friday. Best day ever flair posted a new vid you should put koi fish in the pond
Flair being so excited that the goat fainted is to funny
14:41 “that’s why we need cats” 🤣 y did he say it the way he did
With the pergola in the back, u might be able to put a big like fabric roof on top to give you some shade and it would be like what Jake said and it might leak through
Or put a sloped roof on it like it’s tall in the middle and gradually slopes down, (just an idea)
@@gfnobrien we did the fabric with ours and it works great, we also put curtins on the side too!
Plant ivy in long boxes and train it to grow over the pergola. If it ever gets out of control, cut it back to the boxes. Boxes down each side, lined up perpendicular to sunlight.
Also, just keep an eye out, and if it’s legal, sic Lucy on the herons.
Wouldn’t you need a gardener for that
Or grapes
@@Wheelz_187 Banjo's gardening service
Use an RC car to chase the Herrons
@@michaeljordan3084I would agree with you but I think it might also be illegal to harass them I know it is in my area for a few species of birds.
Can plant a vine that grows up and over the pergola. If you can get a grape vine to grow, then you can have snacks once it matures. If using a flowering vine will attract bees. Otherwise you can hang shades from them to filter the sun.
Big jr is becoming the fan favorite 😂and I can’t believe they faint no you can start or have real fainting goats😂
Love the videos Flair I’ve been watching for at least 5 years now! I do landscaping and a pergola is more for looks, if you want shade a pavilion would be a better option for you guys. Also bought a sampler bundle and was definitely not disappointed, keep up the awesome work!
Flair the mail man delivering the bangers
The thing you were talking about for structure you could also make it a live bait cage for when you want to catfishing so you don’t half to buy bait
To answer your spawning question - little bit of both. Photo-period I think is main factor in determining spawning behavior, but temperature encourages/speeds it up as well. Some think it's an engrained timing mechanism (like an internal clock) that triggers spawning behavior every year at the same time no matter the conditions. But thats just behavioral (getting shallow, gestation in females, etc.). Actual successful spawns need sunlight and good temps.
Every like on my comment big junior has to do a pushup
Big Junior is right, hamsters die in mysterious ways. I had one that escaped its cage and hung itself with the pull cord on the window blind. I swear he did it on purpose.
You better stop picking on big Junior because he knows people who can find out where you sleep !! 😬😜
@@sickstuff7624 was you’re hamsters name Jefferey Epstein ? 😂
#bigjr
No
Love your vids keep up the good work
Keep the nuts on jimmy lol. The faint is so funny
The point of a pergola supposedly is to give eye appeal & create shade. Either a shade cloth or plant lots of vine type plants like ivy, vinca vine ect. U can do both, vines & cloth, but it takes a bit of maintenance or it turns into a mess.If positioned right it can cast a shadow on the water making a cooler spot for the fish.
The goats back
Please consider doing a shed hunting video at the ranch
Think of it this way; when you create a whole new environment for these fish, its safe to say they can also create a whole new spawning cycle to adapt.
Gotta name the white baby goat Casper… I’d faint if I saw a ghost lol
Spring time boys! Birds and Bees are in the air! gonna have a lot of new animals coming
10 likes=40 push ups
usually with garden ponds you tend to put decoy herons around d the pond because herons won't usually hunt if there is another heron on the pond, but not sure if that will work for such a large scale pond, maybe a whole bunch around the outside of the pond and then a few in the water attached to poles.
Put a massive outdoor teepee with Glycol heated floors. Basically a kids or adults playhouse using velcro to put your animal skins up inside. A good warm up spot when playing in the back yard.
You can put a small fence around the pond to keep the herring from reaching the water level and there are also a few reflective things you could put in the pond to scare them off
Good fishing lucy😂
I think the pergola is for vine plants and hanging baskets
Can’t believe Flair disrespected our man Rick like that! Rick and Dale are legends💯
Those herons have been watching your CZcams channel. They’re always going to be one step ahead!
Andrew the things spilling into the pool. Are called waterfalls🤣😂
Pergolas are mostly used to grow grapes on, but you can buy a cloth material to put on it
The safety pool cover is the best purchase you’ve made!!!
All flair needs now is a burm with railroad ties so he can shoot his pews
Dead ass , just set some bear bangers around where they like to sit 🤣🤣🤣...... Should definitely set a trail cam too cuz that'd be hilarious.
FLAIR you answered your own question, can herons fit through the gaps of your poolside thing? Wife maybe not so happy but cut the legs off and set it in the pond for minnow sanctuary from the herons!!
Yes brother ☝🏼
You need to get some waterfowls to that pond! They do an EXCELLENT job to keep the pond clean from algae and stuff, they keep the pond in balance so to speak. PLUS if you got some duck and geese there they will attract wild waterfowls so that you can hunt there. My friend uses this method in his pond, he got plenty of ducks and geese of his own, they attract a HUGE number of wild ducks and geese that he hunts, he got the most impressive pond ive seen and one of the best hunting spots on earth. AND the geese will solve the heron problem, they dont like em so ive seen them being their old natural territorial self and chase those herons away many times! It's all a win, win situation for you Flair please listen to me and I promise that you WONT regret it!
Need to make a 2 minute video of all the Oh YEAHs!!!!
Those pool covers ARE great. Most importantly, they don't slip or slide away from the sides so people cannot get trapped underneath it (Banjo... Big Jr... and children, of course). I mention Banjo and Big Jr in case either of them require water-wings or a floaty... the cover is still dangerous to be caught underneath, even with them on! Seriously though, I look forward to seeing you and he guys out there this summer enjoying pool, etc. No Speedos allowed - only trunks, haha. The fire/water bowls are really nice at night. You'll enjoy sitting out on the deck with Macy in the evenings enjoying either a dip in the hot tub, or a cold one, looking out over your beautiful property.
I keep asking, but nobody replies... how/where is Papa Beefcake? We haven't seen him in over a year. I hope all is well.
Thanks for another great video, Andrew. Let the fishing begin!! (soon... when the fish grow... later)
Heather 🇨🇦
The Perugula is for growing climbing vines and plants on.
Next episode… a complete walk through of the pound and how deep the water is and views of the structures
Get a giant TV with the clip of big Junior shooting the 50 cal
Pergolas normally have taller boards on top and closer together rather than those small ones. It actually gives a fair amount of shade as the sun moves along the sky.
Flair you neeed to buy that bird!!!!😭😂
When the ducks off the nest and comes near you like that she’s looking for food.
Flair - can we use the pergola for the lake, it’s pointless *explanation*
Macy - no
*end of conversation*
this video just brought me back to watching all his videos
Theo looks depressed. Its spring and he was just staring at the girls cage, he just wants some action 😂
I just wanna see the pond full of water already it’s killin me lol
Grow grape vines on the pergola and make beefcake wine 👀
There’s sprinklers you can get that spray at unwanted things near the pond. I’d look into one for the herons but don’t know much about them myself.
Reflective Surfaces: Hang CDs, reflective tape, or aluminum pie plates around the pond. The flashing light can disorient the heron.
Motion-activated sprinklers: Place sprinklers that trigger when they sense movement, startling the heron.
Scare devices: There are devices designed to emit predator noises or startling sounds.
Pond scare crow that looks like one of the boys!😂
The pond fixed is giving good luck in the farm and house
add more structure for fish to hide in. add some blugill next. they make orchard noise makers for bird repellant. gonna need some pea gravel for spawning beds up shallow also
Go ahead and toss in the minnows. I dug a pond by hand this spring (20 feet long, 6 feet wide, and 3 feet deep. It is fed by rainwater. I bought a dozen minnows and tossed em in as soon as I was done digging. The minnows are still kickin, lovin life!
Pork chop has the NFL package on them ears
Pergola needs canvas 'Roman Shades'
Motion activated sprinklers. When the bird gets near it sprays them. Bama bass used some for his back yard small pond
Next time you get fish in Bags, try sitting the backs in the lake for some time to let the temperature of the water equalise so you don't shock the fish when you put them in the lake.
So excited for upcoming fishing, animal, and pond videos!
Flair - it's a safety thing, so the kids don't fall in.
Also Flair - These rocks shoot fire!
Buy climbing roses to cover the pergola plant them on each corner and 1 in the middle of each side
Flair! You need to add a camera in the pond! I've seen your plans for having a cabin on the pond. Awesome idea although it would be even better if you add a TV with a view of the pond. Same for inside your house.
You could put a bird net on top of the pond and you can lift it up when you wanna fish and like if you do that you would probably be able to keep the birds out like just put a that or like put some pieces of wood up and then put the burnet and then there could be like a little spot and you could open it when you want to fish and that would make it to where the birds can’t get in there and and all the raccoons and stuff can’t get in there
From a landscaper I think pergolas are dumb. Pitch it and put a lid on it. But the sod I love it! Congratulations on the property from a long time fan it’s beautiful. God bless y’all.
