Warren Buffett just sold 13% of his Apple stock over the past quarter, but why? Both Apple and Amazon reported earnings last week that seemed to be well received by the market. In this video we go through the earnings reports and dig into what happened with both companies.

Hello Matt, Another great video, curious to know what is your take on MCD?
Thanks! Iâm hoping to have a MCD video for Friday
@@mattderron I'm waiting
great video Matt...I am inclined to move out of my AAPL position for some of reasons you mentioned...take the gains and move money into other opportunities. Maybe revisit it down the road..just not sure yet...Amazon has been huuuuuge.....wish I should have bought more at $94....hind sight right??...keep up the good work Matt...
Good day Matt đŠđș
Another great video, and I really enjoyed it. And I totally agree with you on your take on AMZN, solid and somewhat under-appreciated results to me. So I added some position both before and after the earning last week.
I'm also cautiously optimistic regarding AAPL. But it's still not convincing enough for me to start a position for it. I reckon I'll enjoy my exposure to it from ETFs for now.
Good day! Yeah people kind of acted disappointed with AMZN's results (maybe it mostly because forward guidance was slightly lower than expected) but I thought it was great. đ
I have positions in both companies and I have been very happy and no plans of changing them.
4th!
Truly Canadian moment.

lol I didnât even notice
Amazon is killing it. Iâm late to the game. Opened a ~$2k position at $181.77. I believe it will be a good investment in the long run with their focus on profitability and cost cutting.

Berkshire is in a strong position to buy the right opportunity.
I'm thinking Berkshire's significant overweight positon in AAPL more than anything else was the impetus to reduce the holding plus, other than his Kraft holdings, it's the YTD loss leader of his top ten holdings based on a 3/19/2024 assessment. Yes, I heard the tax aspect but Buffett is in the business of making money and regardless of where he may invest the proceeds of the sale there's likely going to be capital gains taxed at the higher rates he anticipates. I mean he has huge gains in AXP and yet he doesn't seem to be concerned about the tax impact there.
Correct, if the outlook was great he wouldnât trim there, I agree
Maybe Buffett is taking that AAPL sell money and buying CVS and SBUX?? đđ. Thanks for the info Matt. đ
I'm going to guess not đ but you never know
he said is because of tax. you guys didnt watch his talk at cnbc?
Yes, I mentioned it in the video. I did add though that if Apple was growing at a super high rate they probably wouldn't have chosen it as a place to trim. But yes, in general I agree.
My position on APPL remains the same, I do not intend to sell or buy. I agree with your analysis here but as we chatted about APPL in a previous video; I do not see them as the innovator they once were or delivering the quality products they once had, their transitioning to more of a MS revenue model still seems a bit sketchy, finally they are late on jumping on the AI band wagon. Their product value proposition is, I think, less attractive than it once was.
We shall see.
I generally like your content, but can read the press releases myself. I would urge you to focus your videos on analysis rather than scorekeeping the %âs to the second and third decimal
It is analysis. Analysis of their latest earnings to their expectations as well as my own. This is a common practice for people who pick stocks to monitor their performance. Also there have been a lot of these videos lately because itâsâŠearnings season
đ„
You can also not read the press release yourself, and you could also not watch the video yourself.
@@mattderronIâm just saying rounding is your friend when speaking about revenue, earnings, and gains / losses on your portfolioâŠ
What doesn't actually make sense though is that all of the numbers in this video are rounded, with just a few that are even at one decimal place. So...not sure if this video is even the one you're talking about or if you just have a general issue.
I do go to 2 decimals in my portfolio updates for talking about actual performance and/or allocations to differentiate from multiple holdings be at 12.xx% for example.
Either way, not every video may meet your standards. Hopefully you can still get some value out of them.
Warren still talking Apple up, he wants to sell more soon and doesnât want it to tank before he makes the sale
I think Warren "trim" because he owns so much APPL and needs more time to offload. With the Tim Cook stock buyback, it might change Warren's mind. We won't know for awhile.
He did say AAPL will be their largest holding unless something drastic changes with capital allocation. So I even if they end up selling more I think it will still be a very large position
âBuffett told shareholders at Berkshire's annual meeting that his view on Apple's business hadn't changed and that the tech giant will likely remain the conglomerate's largest stock holding at the end of 2024.â
From Investopedia website
My question is .. why emphasis âend of 2024â?
I am not concerned; Buffett sometimes needs to be ambiguous.
Apple should under $150...
Why?
@@mattderron Apple is considered the best company in the world. I used to change my iPhone every year, but now I am not interested anymore. I don't feel any difference from iPhone 10 to iPhone 15. Apple needs more creativity and a little innovation. Craziness went away....
@WORLDCITIZEN2004 whatâs the significance of $150? How did you come to that number?
I smell BS from Berkshire. I sold my Apple a month ago. I won't look back.
