    Steve Clark throwin' the poses and shredding the riffs.

    This particular clip (as was most of the In The Round In Your Face video) was shot in Denver, with a couple of other live tracks from the same release recorded in Atlanta. I saw them live earlier in the same tour, June 23rd, 1988 in Vancouver Canada to be precise. Def Leppard's shows on this tour were so well refined and choreographed that the only way I could tell this was not the Vancouver concert was because in Vancouver Steve Clark was wearing his "White Lightning" clothes rather than the darker duds and red scarf.
    This concert tour was an audio-visual mind-fuck for the ages, with the band giving themselves no time to come up for air for the better part of three hours. They even had Jon Bon Jovi join them on stage for a couple of impromptu tracks during several encores. Jon was in town recording the album New Jersey (follow-up to Slippery When Wet) at Little Mountain Sound in Vancouver - one of the more sought-after studios in the '80s.
    Red Scarf guy was indeed Steve Maynard Clark, aka: The Riff-Master, aka: White Lightning. Singer Joe Elliot had mentioned that Steve was in a class by himself, giving his all on stage and "doing 90 mph in reverse". His best buddy Phil Collen (the other guitarist) was technically a better axe-man in that he was more precise, faster and (as Joe put it) "a complete and utter technician".
    But Steve's forte was his ability to come out with the most catchy and mind-scrambling riffs and then delivering them via an incendiary and soulful tour-de-force of a performance on stage. Die Hard The Hunter was one of his signature tracks, along with Foolin', Too Late For Love, Gods Of War and Bringin' On The Heartache. It was Steve's ingenuity that created and encapsulated the overall sound and vibe that made Def Leppard a household name, and since he sadly passed away on 8th January, 1991 the band has never been the same.

    You're the first reactor out there who has commented on Steve Clark and what an amazing guitar sound and stage presence he had. He wrote many of Def Leppard's songs back then and was called "The Riffmaster" for his ability to compose some of the most memorable guitar riffs out there. He was classically trained as a teenager but once he heard Jimmy Page, he decided rock n roll was the path for him. So sad that he lost his battle with addiction.

    Die Hard the Hunter is one of my favorite Def Leppard songs. Steve Clark is the guy with the red scarf. Sadly he had a severe alcohol problem and ended up dying from alcohol poisoning in 1991 despite the band's efforts to get him help. What a great talent, sadly lost. The shirtless guy is Phil Collen. He is now 65 and still plays shirtless and is in great physical shape to this day. Playing in the round was very phsyically demanding even for when they were young. Other than the late, great Steve Clark, the band is still together today and still selling out stadiums. They are considered one of the best live bands to this day. Lead singer, Joe Elliott still sounds great too. In 1992, they hired Vivian Campbell to replace Steve Clark. And after more than 30 years with Def Leppard, Viv is still the new guy. Viv who had played with three other major bands previous to Def Leppard said that Def Leppard had the best work ethic of any band he had ever seen. The bassist is Rick Savage who goes by Sav and the drummer is Rick Allen who began with the band on his 15th birthday. Sav is technically the longest term member as he was a founder of a band that became Def Leppard after they brought in Joe Elliott.

    Great reaction as usual.i think you would love "bringing on the heartbreak " the live in the round in your face tour 1988 in Boulder Colorado. It's absolutely the best version of this song featuring special acoustic guitars from steve clarke and phil collen. They were great friends, and were known as "the terror twins" the song is only part accoustic, but that part is particularly special! Please keep reactions of def leppard coming, they have many great songs

    Steve Clark (red scarf) passed away."No shirt guy", Phil Collen, is still in the band. Both of them are lead guitarists, which gives Def Leppard the sound we love. Sometimes they both go hard on the solos, but other times, they would switch off with one playing mostly rhythm and the other playing lead. Depends on the song, but they were a great team. In fact, they were known as "The Terror Twins".

    • @JakeyJaw666
      @JakeyJaw666 Před rokem +2

      Steve mostly wrote all the music and came up with the idea of both playing different parts as to today's standards of guitarists today both playing same parts .
      They got the name terror twins as they both liked to drink and got into all sorts of trouble, Phil stopped drinking before the hysteria tour but steve didn't, it all stemmed from not getting enough approval from his waste of space dad

      @@JakeyJaw666 uhhh, wtf are you rambling about? She answered my dude's questions succinctly. You can't seriously be offended that easily. Your comment is not factual. Collen wrote and still writes his guitar parts since before Pyromania came out.

      @@JakeyJaw666 Today's guitarists don't play the same parts.TF?? In most bands you get rhythm, bass and lead. DL did get its unique sound by having two top-tier leads. And Steve didn't write most of the music. He did for High and Dry, but Collen was and still is a huge contributor to the writing. Neither of your comments were factual. Also, learn English before you tell someone else to make sense. Your comments are almost illiterate.

    I love your def leppard reactions, but you just totally abandoned them. They went from favorite band, to nobody overnight, dont know if you read your comments or not, i like you, but a little disappointed at the same time. Saw them in 2022, they were awsome with over 40,000 people in Seattle. They finally were inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame in 2019. Together since 1977. Def leppard = legends!
