This 632 1060 HP pump gas, street BB Chevy is typically $5000 below average!

  • In this, episode 122, DV & Terry Walters go with a less than orthodox route to achieve a 1000 HP plus, 87 octane, street drivable BB Chevy.
    Not only do they clear the torque and HP goals set but also manage it on a way, way lower cost than GM's almost unavailable 1000 hp 632.
    If you are interested, this, the prototype is now available in 'as new' condition for just $19,500 which is way below the usual $32,000 or so that most BB's of this calibre go for.

    Just a heads-up: I worked in anti-counterfeiting, and much of the work was done in the petroleum industry. Testing pump fuel (particularly here in TX) consistently proved that E-85 was typically anything from E-0 to E-10 or -15, and almost never E-85. This proved to be a problem that originated at the blending stations and the distributors and retailers didn’t even know of the deviation. Moral of the story: trust, but verify. If running a vehicle requires E-85, my strong suggestion is to purchase it in containers and test it without blindly putting it into the vehicle. This way, you can make adjustments, or get new, without trashing your engine due to detonation.

      The simple method works well. You add a prescribed amount of water and it will pull the ethanol out of the fuel. You can then measure the volume of water/ethanol and compare that to the remaining fuel.

      That's very good to know. I'm currently building a SBC that I was planning on running on E85 because it's high octane, cheap, and readily available. If counterfeit E85 is that common, perhaps I should rethink my strategy. Thank you!

      Trust, but verify. I know people who run E-85, but they pump it into containers and test it. So, if (when) you get a bad batch, now what do you do with it?
      I like to set my builds up so that the dynamic compression allows the use of 93 octane for street use. Race cars, I run leaded race fuel. My son has a naturally-aspirated Fury III that makes 730 HP. It runs 14/1 and we use leaded 100 octane.

    Have you looked at the intake manifold pressure during the dyno run? I think with the cam event timing in conjuction with the high CR, that the engine will experience higher than normal pressure, allowing better breathing - (kinda internally supercharging)

    • @luckyPiston
      @luckyPiston Před 7 měsíci +1

      Idk i'm thinkin yur confusing pressure with velocity , Bernoulli's principle says if you hav low pressure and high velocity u will have volume flow , which is what we want , now if we want to find your supercharging pressure i would look at the backside of the valve rather than the intake manifold and i think pressure there is gonna be based on pulse waves traveling back and forth in the runner , i would be asking DV & TW what consideration they gave to intake runner dimensions in terms of ram effect and cam timing. Thats a tall intake more like a tunnel ram.

    Most people don't realize that you can run that high compression on the street. I ran similar setups years ago that had even higher compression, but leaded 104 octane gas was still available all over the place. (showing my age, lol) The best result I got on the street, was oddly on a destroked 454 that was 408ish ci. I got 1.9 hp per ci out of it..... The key, is that the cam kept the dynamic compression in check, and the small ci extended the rpm range. I don't think that engine would have run so well on 87 octane, but the same theory applies. There were more than a few companies back then that made BBC Marine solid roller cams as low as 102. Lunati probably still offers off the shelf grinds to 106, and possibly lower in the custom range. Depends on the blank design, just as David mentioned...... It can get crazy expensive for custom cams that use custom cores....
