  • In this video I’m going to give you my Continental Speed King review. It’s featured in my list of the best 26 inch slick mountain bike tires, so if you’re looking for alternatives you might want to check out that article as well.
    The full name of the Speed King is actually the Continental Speed King 2.2 RaceSport. The 2.2 refers to the tire width in inches and RaceSport to its construction, which includes their BlackChili compound.

    Love the review and it makes me more pumped up. I'm so excited to finally get my pair. These tires are crazy hard to find, they're out of stock everywhere. They're perfect for the kind of riding I do and the road conditions that we have here.

      Good for you, Ken. It is great tyre indeed. Mind to share where you got these from? Am struggling to find it too. Want to buy one more for spare. Thanks.

    Hi! I'm after this 26" tyres since 3 months approx. and I can't find them anywhere.
    Does anyone know any store at the UK where may I'm able to find them?
    Or some worldwide store with international shipping of course.
    Kind regards.

    Hello. Thank you for the review. Nice job 👍
    Did you had some issues with punctures?
    Do you run them tubeless?

    • @restorationdotbike
      @restorationdotbike  Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks. I don't run them tubeless and with about 600 miles on them have never had a punture. But a lot of times, punctures are just bad luck and have little to do with the tire, when the tire sits in the premium segment, like this one.

    hi, what about punctire resistant? is it lower than usueally mtb tyre?

    • @restorationdotbike
      @restorationdotbike  Před 2 lety

      If you would compare two continental tires with BlackChili compound (e.g. they are made of the same material), a tire with large knobbies is more puncture resistant than one like the Speed King with exactly the same riding conditions, simply because there's less rubber on the Speed King. Less rubber means less puncture resistance, lower rolling resistance and higher speed.

  • @hkkelvinlee
    @hkkelvinlee Před rokem

    Is Speed King discontinued? Unable to find supply anywhere. Conti's website still contains reference to this tyre but no product info listed as in in size and spec.

      I've had the same experience. Too bad if it's true, it's a great tire.

      @@restorationdotbike Thanks. I was semi-hoping you would tell me I was just being delusional. 😢 New tyres are no longer made for 26". Schwalbe just came up with new semi-slick called G-One RS which resembles Speed King in many ways except not available at 26".

    • @hkkelvinlee
      @hkkelvinlee Před rokem

      When searching for 26" inches tyre at Conti website, it no longer lists Speed King. I bought a Race King and a Cross King lately, the packing contains a table listing all "Kings" with description of what terrain each is good at. Speed King is notably absent in the table. So EOL is as official as it gets.

    How fast you can cycle on the city roads by using this tires? How much faster you are now riding a bike comparing to the previous tires?

    • @restorationdotbike
      @restorationdotbike  Před 2 lety +2

      I didn't measure it so can't give you data or anything. Speed on smooth city roads while in motion is largely defined by rolling resistance. The difference for this metric will be imperceptible. E.g. you won't notice a 10 watt difference (10 watts is a lot). What you will notice is gaining momentum and how fast you can pull away from a standstill. These tires are almost half the weight from the ones they replaced (Schwalbe Big Apple). That's moving towards 3-quarters of a kilo for a set. And it sits on your wheels. When they look at my bike I've had a number of people who want to see if they're faster sprinting from a stoplight. They never are, and in part it's because of these tires.

      Thanks for your reply. I have bought Kross Esker 6.0. it's polish company, you probably haven't heard about them. I have wtb tires there 37 mm wide. They are not very fast or comfortable. Maksimum speed 43 km h

    Is this good fornlong distance cycling or bikepacking

    • @restorationdotbike
      @restorationdotbike  Před 2 lety +1

      No, this is one of the lightest XC tires out there. That comes at the cost of longevity and durability, simply because the tire packs less rubber and added puncture protection layers (cause this would add weight). You can check the following article if you're looking for 26 inch bikepacking tires: www.restoration.bike/tires/26-inch-bikepacking-tires/

    I use them with light inner tubes and xr 331 dt rims, they accelerate like hell, wet traction is not a problem, they cope. Worse with the failure rate of this set, on average, every 250 km I puncture the inner tube from the glasses. The air comes out of them very loudly hehe at 4 atm. They cope even in light sand (I've never fallen with spd) but effective slips are guaranteed. Would I buy them again? Yes, but rather normal inner tubes, not the light ones, and you can also put on an anti-puncture insert. and emotions, speed at 4 atm amazing, mtb bike I often see 60 km / h on flat

      @@firerazie22 That sounds good. The Conti Terra Speed uses the same compound, but with a low density thread pattern and seems to not last very long.
      Currently thinking about the Terra Hardpack. Seems to have the same thread pattern like the Speed King but uses Contis new slightly less grippy and more durable PureGrip compound. Could be a great tire for commuting on mixed mostly hard surfaces.

      Look for the Conti Terra Hardpack. It has the same thread pattern, is tubeless ready but uses a slightly different compund that should be a little less grippy, but a lot more durable. It's called PureGrip insted of BlackChilli with the speed king otherwise the construction is the same as Contis Terra Speed, a highly regarded tire for it's rolling resistance and smooth ride.
