  • Well we have finally arrived at a studio Wings track... and man. This was.... something. This video was so surreal yet so beautiful at the same time. Paul really was a genius and putting him with Denny and Linda is just a great idea for some amazing songs to happen. This happens to be one of them. Thank you to our patron Mark V for this wonderful selection.

Paul had plenty of healing to do after the Beatles...his Scottish farm seemed to be the safe place he needed. I take this as a love song to Scotland, a song of gratitude and appreciation.

I wish you can return to your farm as soon you as can, it'd be awesome! For the record, Paul McCartney actually suffered a lot after the Beatles, depression and alcohol was a daily boost, but soon after his wife Linda helped him to arise and he started to sing again, After Ram album he met Denny Lane, which was a friend since 60's, so he changed jis mood and he decided to deliver Wild Life album, a very light and beautiful album with an amazing voice, singing songs like Wild Life and Dear Friend toward his friend John Lennon.

Kintyre is a peninsula of Scotland. It is southwest of Glasgow, and Loch Lomond. Paul's ranch was there, where "the long and winding road" took to get him there, and back out again. At the end of Kintyre, on a clear day, one can see across to Northern Ireland. When I rented a car in 1990, and drove around the U.K. for two weeks, I drove down Kintyre, yet it was raining hard, and foggy in the region too -Scotland! I did not see N'Eire. I did have this song on a cassette to play then :)

I fell so much in love with this song, that a very long time ago, I went to Scotland, rented a car and drove to the Mull of Kintyre just to see it. It was beautiful and the most remote place I’ve ever been. Not a single sound except seagulls and bleating sheep. I’ll never forget it. I love Scotland.

McCartney was really nervous about it at the time, as it was the days of punk in the late 70's and he didn't think it would catch on - but he said he had punks coming up to him telling him how great it was. heh

Everyone has a different perspective and taste in music. I much prefer most of Paul's solo work more than John's or George's or Ringo's (although I do like a lot of their stuff too and of course the Beatle's catalog is the best). This song is good for what it was meant to be--a tribute to a peaceful beautiful place where he recovered from the break up of the Beatles. The bagpiper's were a local band that he used in the video and they put out an album of their own as a result.

Lee I really appreciate your eclectic choices of music to react to. You run the gamut from pop to acid rock & beyond. Most reactors do songs that millions have heard on commercials, radio, films etc. and claim they never heard the song before. Ten seconds into song and then they say "I know this". Spoiler alert-they reviewed the song before uploading the "reaction" video. You seem to be giving an honest reaction to songs I assume you never even knew existed let alone heard. Especially songs from the 60's by obscure artists who were never heard from again.💯💥👍

Great reaction Lee!! This song has always made me smile (and to be honest, tear up sometimes) - it's such a beautiful piece and homage to a gorgeous place!
I'm generally not a bagpipe lover (I liken the sound to strangling a cat) - but there are instances where it is THE perfect instrument! At a military tattoo, where a brass marching band and a pipe & drum band collaborate for Amazing Grace (chills & tears) (my dad is a trumpeter with a police marching band, so I've experienced this many times), and with this song! I can't think of a more appropriate use of the pipes!
This came out the year I was born - but I remember, while very young, hearing it on the radio here in Ontario, Canada regularly. Such fond memories of it. Cheers!

Paul bought this while in the Beatles for a retreat, John Lennon bought a small Island on the west coast of Ireland for the same reason.

Huge hit in the UK, didn't do squat in the U.S., which isn't that much of a surprise given the subject matter and traditional 'pub singalong' style.

McCartney songs are melodic.. practically all of them. It's something not heard in hardly any pop music, especially recent pop music.
