      Fascism is for disaster save files. If you're playing well, you can win peacefully, so it's best to go for democracy and use the economic bonuses (and, most importantly, the economic _cards,_ cards are always the most important part of any government) to cruise to victory. But if you're behind, you may have to fight wars to stop your rivals from winning... and suddenly military cards spike in value, and that's where fascism comes in.

    • @aidanwarren4980
      @aidanwarren4980 Před 2 měsíci +20

      I think it's to do with the game's UI? Consider that buildings are at the top of the production menu, and they directly show you their outputs of production and gold and so on. Meanwhile the builders are lower on the build queue and you have to figure out the return yourself by adding up all outputs of the tiles you want to improve. The builder usually has a better return on investment because tile improvements are strong, scale over time, and the builder makes three of them. The UI does nothing to signal that to you.

    • @atoucangirl
      @atoucangirl Před 2 měsíci +9

      @@MrSeriousSnape as he said, getting more tourism for himself actually helps Kongo win since it lowers other civ's tourism defense. Nubia was still a threat and staying at war meant he could more easily destroy spaceports in the future. he was peace-locked with Kongo for 11 turns so no choice there, and people weren't joining that war like they were with Nubia. spreading his religion was probably the best win condition at that point. i'm pretty sure Kongo had the anti-rock band policy. gearing cities for production was the only way he was ever getting any units or any useful thing. not checking religion and blocking rock bands was a mistake.

    • @MrSeriousSnape
      @MrSeriousSnape Před 2 měsíci +3

      @@atoucangirl amenaties from parks outway tourism in my opinion.
      he tried to call his allies into a 2nd war, which they are a lot less likely to do, so why not wait 11 turns and get more people against kongo? He could have still farmed xp on some units (bombers etc.) just damaging nubia a lil, than peace her out and gain some extra funds, we now the ai is dumb.
      sending rockbands only kongo shouldn't be that big of a problem , you assuming that kongo had the rockabndcard active is just that, an assumption. (forcing the card into her governtment would take away a more useful card)
      spreading your religion into your alliy (portugal) thus most likely gaining grievances by converting his cities seems not that helpful, when you want your allies to join a war.
      spreading his religion as the most likely wincon - sure - why not start with kongo and after you brought the war to her, convert the rest of the world. You don't need war to disrupt rocketry, besides that the AI rarely does the project that speeds up sciencevictories, so there where many turns left to deal with Nubia.
      I don't mind gearing the majority of his empire towards production but as i said at the start, amenaties would have been pretty helpful. Your initial point felt correct to boost at least his productionhubs with bought-builders but than throw all the money into military.
      I'm also not that sure about right away switching into facism, when you first want to get eco going, +5 strength vs nubia seems not worth to me.
      And one last thing, sending underteched units (ironcalds etc) or a barely defended carrier out is very risky but under such circumstances you have to take risks if you want to win.

    The main problem aside from needing more builders (they had pretty good district planning) was not having a true plan for what to use their faith on. It was their main asset and investment and what was it going to be used for to help them win? They had Tithe, which I always feel is best for domination.
    They had Yerevan and never promoted moksha so they weren't planning on going religious victory. They didn't go grandmasters chapel, which imo is far more useful than the intelligence agency just generally (barbs just spawned and I haven't built walls, no problem, surprise warred, no problem need seige or cavalry at the front line no problem) but Especially with such a high faith game. So they weren't thinking domination?
    They probably had fun settling a bunch with monumentality and didn't really work towards what kind of victory they were going to be able to get with those cities. Sometimes dance of the aurora can be a bit of a trap and make you settle otherwise bad cities that have a fantastic holy site, 3 population until after the modern era, and nothing else going for it. Not to mention how long they take just to get that holy site.

    • @RayHikes
      @RayHikes Před 2 měsíci

      You're probably right about them getting caught up in a monumentality push, would also explain why they had so much faith generation that they were doing nothing with late game. I find it really hard to make proper use out of monumentality unless I'm playing a religion build. I'll either spend a ton of time ramping up faith production and then not have a use for any of it late game, or I won't have enough faith to get more than a couple builders.

    Love your content potato, as it got me to try taking on deity (I think I'm still losing though).
    Quick question though, why are you sending out inquisitors outside your borders as part of the war? I thought they can only operate within your empire's borders.

  • @axxey
    @axxey Před 2 měsíci

    I agree with everything in the video, if they were done long ago.
    When the countdown timer is already riding you everything not making a unit instantly is not getting that unit close enough to make a difference in time for it to be relevant. 600 gold spent on a lighthouse for example is not going to get any short term return, it's 600 gold not spend on a unit.
    Every thing i look at in this re-enforces that if you generate faith anything but grandmasters chapel sux. Also has there been no monumentality to spend all that faith generation on Civilian units?
    I would be interested in where his suzerain city states are. Sometimes you can Levy a far away city state and leverage it to capture a foothold city to buy a frontline war effort from.

    So I agree that building builders is important. However, I'm not sure I agree its the first thing on the list when doing a disaster rescue. How many turns before you got your investment back from the builders? If you started the war straight away you could have attacked sooner for sure, and build up on a lower speed

    I always thought that every player's foreign tourism screen is independent, so that pumping out tourism doesn't actually "take" domestic tourists from anyone else's perspective, and that the sum of everyone's foreign tourists is actually higher than the total tourists generated. Is that wrong?
    Like, I remember an earlier video where Potato once said "they way you think tourism works is wrong; here's how it actually works," but what he just described in this video is how I used to think tourism works before I saw whichever video that was.
    If this is actually the way it works, then how do people mistakenly *think* it works? Or I guess a better question would be: how exactly does tourism work between players? Are the foreign tourists shared? Can players pull other player's foreign tourists to their empire? Does pulling tourists from a civ into your empire lower that civ's domestic tourists on everyone's screen?

  • @jaredgabor6571

    Honestly this seems like a misplay. It's already too late to produce a bunch of builders. Improving all those tiles will set you up to win a war of attrition, but you just don't have time for that kind of war. I would prioritize bombers and aircraft carriers over builders, but even there I think you could have a military engineer build some airstrips on neutral tiles near Congo. Destroyers and battleships are a good idea to protect the carriers, but again I'm not sure you really have time for that. One tank army and half a dozen bombers can wreck most civs pretty fast.
    Trading away all that diplomatic favor really came back to bite you, but that's just bad luck. And I think he was running Scripture because he had Work Ethic, which seems like a big miss on your part if I understand correctly (your UI mod isn't showing the production bonus on the policy card, so maybe it doesn't work that way).
