    The commercial hub/harbor with the gilded vault with tons of trade routes and 5+ adjacency campuses is actually cracked in the Tokugawa game I just finished I couldn’t believe I was overtaking the ai so quickly. Probably the most fun I’ve had with a leader in a while! Literally just pump everything into the capital and it almost anchors all of your other cities

    • @moreon340
      @moreon340 Před rokem +5

      It really is pretty crazy. I'm just about done. Turn 233, 28 population Tokyo, the internal trade routes to it are up to 10 science and culture, and I'm about to get culture victory.

    • @Skyblade12
      @Skyblade12 Před rokem +4

      I forgot about the double trade routes. I am so used to just going Voidsingers by default, and Owls didn't seem useful because it rewards trading with the City States over trading with yourself. But getting so many extra trade routes is definitely worth it. Even if it means giving up all my lovely Faith bonuses.

    • @ThinkingReality
      @ThinkingReality Před rokem +2

      @@Skyblade12 yeah getting extra trade routes is really crazy when every trade route gives you 4+ science and culture (and tons of gold). After a while I just stopped bothering with city-states - it's nice to get the envoys, but trading with myself is just too good. Plus, because your districts give you tourism, you don't actually have to do much of anything to win a culture victory - just built chunky cities with loads of adjacent districts, and you get your tourism together pretty quickly.

    • @Skyblade12
      @Skyblade12 Před rokem +1

      @@ThinkingReality I’ve actually turned off cultural victories because I like playing with Corpos and they just make Culture WAY too easy. I wish they’d dial back or remove the tourism buff they give. The extra yields from the Industries/Corpos and the extra bonuses from them and their products is fun, but the massive boosts in tourism just make the culture game too easy.

    Personally I think a Classical Era Dark Age would be preferable to a Classical Era Normal Age, because this makes it possible to get a Medieval Era Heroic Age. So if the era counter is closing in and I'm still headed for a Dark age, I usually actively avoid getting more Era Score. Though what I'd personally consider the ideal Era progression would be Golden Classical into Dark Medieval into Heroic Renaissance, because combining Monumentality with Hic Sunt Dracones is just plain broken for a huge expansion wave, especially if prepped with a Magnus with Provisions and an Acenstral Hall. You could easily pop out 10-15 new cities each with a starting pop of 4 and a builder.

The galley you bought at 20:02 could’ve been spent on an archer instead and got you more utility since the Germans were a bigger threat. The galley’s only use would’ve been to explore the coast quicker and find other civilizations but with isolationism being this version of japan’s strength exploration wouldn’t have mattered. When I see a threat as big as Germany taking out surrounding cities i immediately change game plans. Especially if my military strength was as low as yours. Then I had two city states to my south, Germany to my east and Khemer to the north-east and I met all of that before turn 10. Wow Potato. Did you lose any pieces in that phenomenal chess game? I know who not to mess with if I ever come across them in a multiplayer game.

    Am I evil for enjoying watching Potato struggle in a game for a change? 😆These are how my games usually look but I then give up! Would be great to see more videos of Potato struggling like I usually do!

    I installed some cool gameplay mods and when i started a game to try them out, both my neighbouring countries (egypt and Netherlands) declared war on me before turn 40 with me having the bare minimum of troops.
    Little did they realise, i was randomly given simon bolivare.
    Now their cities are mine.

    i often go autocraty with naval civ, so i can plug in the galey production in order to have a few galey out really fast and then i can plug in the card that up the harbor production by 30prct. that's like my favorite opening with naval civ.
    and also it give me production to wonder and i can use that in order to build colossus. always good to have one aditionnal commercial road but i mostly do the colosus for era score in order to get my golden age.

      and the boost toward wonder will be good a bit later in the game if you plane on building kilua (don't know the exact name of it, well the one that give you 15prct boost when you're suzerain of a city states) wich you want to do bcs you have eyes of minerva, and it also speed up mausoleum wich you also want to do bcs it's broken with naval civ.

    I did this on continents on deity and the game gave me my own large island. I ended up with 7 cities on it with nan madol and a few on the nearby shore of a full continent. I basically just built commercial hubs, harbors, campuses, and IZs. Won science at 260 with 1500 sci and gold per turn, and 800 culture per turn. No wars in that game. I went magnus and then pingala, with minerva. Vertical integration gave my capitol 250 production.

    They still haven't fixed that, it seems.
