    Hi Jennifer. I really enjoy your videos. You're a pleasure to watch. I just wanted to add that when rinsing the Armour Etch DON"T splash any on you faucet fixtures. I did and by time I could rinse it off (yes, just that quick) it took a bit of the finish off. Luckily it was just a tiny spot but it's noticeable. Now I rinse in the basement utility sink. Lesson learned.

    Just wanted to thank you for this video. I was unsure if I had a Pyrex set that was etchable, because I heard rumors that some were not. After your tips, I was happy to realize that my dishes were etchable. They etched really well using your advice, especially because I was trying to figure out how to avoid the "Pyrex" wording on the bottom (mine was right in the middle and unavoidable with my design) - you were right! - my etching went right over it and looks beautiful. Thanks for the reminder to tape off the edges of my vinyl too. Normally, I just try to stay away from the edges, but it was helpful not to have to be too careful when re-brushing the etching cream. I have etched many times before, but usually on non-labeled glass or mirrors.... so I was afraid of damaging quality Pyrex. Thanks again! I was able to successfully etch 3 dishes.

  • @minirox47
    @minirox47 Před 3 lety +2

    Well, I finally got my first attempt done. I was excited to start seeing my design appear and did the final wipe off. My design was GONE! I used one of my Pyrex for my first attempt and it must be one of the older ones. But I feel much more confident for my next attempt. All in all, a good run :-)

    • @JenniferMaker
      @JenniferMaker  Před 3 lety +3

      You got this! If you see a note that your dish is very scratch and impact resistant, or is made to withstand rapid temperature changes, it's possible that it may not be able to etch correctly. If in doubt, take a toothpick and put a dot of etching cream on the dish to test it out to see if it will etch or not! 😍

    Last I checked, and it has admittedly been a few years, Anchor Hocking still uses borosilicate whereas Pyrex is fully soda lime.
    I haven't done any etching since working in a glass studio where we had a sand blaster, and in college classes before that. I can recall doing etched glasses with armour etch as a kid, carefully hand cutting monograms. Soooooo exhausting! Looking forward to playing with this option!
    I will say that going heavy and letting it sit, which is what the manufacturer has always recommended, without moving it around constantly always gave me a good result, but to each their own.🤷‍♀️

      I wanted to follow up on this project. I ended up gifting all the girls in the family with an etched casserole dish with their last names. Struggle #1: I'm so glad I did a trial run on one of my dishes first. Struggle 2: make sure when you put the painters tape around to protect the design MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO AIR BUBBLES. Struggle 3: I wanted the last name on the side of the dish pay attention which side you want it on because one side you have to mirror. This was a super fun project and am going to be an etching fool. I have so many ideas for gifts.

    Hi I have tried this on Uk Pyrex with no success and have been informed that it won't work on Pyrex sold in the UK so a lesson learnt for me which is such a shame as I was so looking forward to doing these as gifts

    • @JenniferMaker
      @JenniferMaker  Před 3 lety

      Sorry to hear that! Please note: Dishes made of Borosilicate WILL NOT WORK. Dishes from Ikea and some other brands of dishes may be made of borosilicate glass, therefore, they will not work. Borosilicate glass is a tougher type of glass. If you see a note that your dish is very scratch and impact resistant to withstand rapid temperature changes, it’s possible it may not work to etch correctly. Please check the etching cream manufacturer’s website for more information. jennifermaker.com/etched-casserole-dish/

    As a newbie Cricut Maker owner I am a recent subscriber to your channel and am watching EVERYTHING Cricut you’ve ever done. I am really keen to try etching a casserole dish for my friend’s birthday and have been looking around for Armour Etch cream in the UK. I’ve found it available for sale on several websites but they all state, very firmly, that it won’t etch Pyrex dishes but you are clearly doing it - and beautifully! Do we have different Pyrex on sale here in the UK? I would be so grateful for your advice as I don’t want to waste money on the materials or be disheartened when I don’t get the fabulous results that you do. Thank you so much for all that you do to inspire and educate.

    • @JenniferMaker
      @JenniferMaker  Před 3 lety

      It does not etch borosilicate glass. So the glass from Ikea, is often made from that and it does not etch. :)

      So ... I went on the hunt for pyrex similar to that which you used in your video and learned that the PYREX we have in Europe is still made of borosilicate glass and can be identified by the different logo (US pyrex, Europe PYREX). Really disappointed as I would have loved to make etched casserole dishes like yours ... I will, however, use your technique to etch other glassware for gifts. Hope this will help some of your other non-US fans. Keep your fabulous lessons coming 😘
