    For someone who doesn’t play acoustic guitar much, you were stunning in this video. I thank you for sharing this, as I am considering the purchase of one, but dragging my feet because all I can find at the moment is Chinese made. I have so many Korean Epiphone guitars, that I’m dreading going in that direction. Well, one of my Les Paul’s is from Samick Indonesia, so maybe it will work out buying non-Korean. In 2015, after buying a phenomenal 1 in a million LP Custom, I decided to order a Custom Pro to compare it to. After 7 returns, (to the factory that is now the nexus for most, if not all Epi LP’s & most other electrics-Qingdao) I just simply gave up & asked for my money back. Boy those were horrible guitars then. And that was 2015 when the MIC guitars were supposed to have “surpassed” the MIK guitars. Boy oh boy- did I ever get off track! Again, absolutely brilliant performance, as well as your much appreciated commentary!
    Take care!

    Super to see you playing one of these! I have one I bought in 2000 except its in natural as opposed to the VS (vintage sunburst). The VS was sold out when I bought mine, probably cos of Noel playing one on the cover of Definitely Maybe! So I had to settle for the natural.
    Jumbo guitars though - for when you have to be the loudest motherf**king acoustic guitar in the room, accept no substitutes!

    Hiya Davy Boyo ! Enjoyed this "Acoustic" episode muchly... Think your comments concerning guitar are all accurate... To pick up someone else's guitar, which you are not familiar with and play it so well is to your credit... Have heard you play 'other' acoustics more comfortably... and... probably prefer those guitars more (?)... BUT... Like the way in which you built up your 'sonic' journey throughout that display of craftsmanship... proving you are one of the best musicians around (and evidence of your musical understanding and knowledge)... Yup... a twenty minute trip through the Galaxy to the 'Milky Way'... and back home for "Bangers & Mash" on the dinner table... all the more appetizing ! Starship Enterprise is still landing at Heathrow ! Cheers ! 🤠...

    Found an early 2000's Gibson SJ 200 in a little music shop while going through Wyoming a couple years ago. Looks very similar to yours. I started playing it and was absolutely obsessed with it. It was a ridiculous amount of money, so I left it there. I talked about it so much that my wife insisted we turn around and buy it so she wouldn't have to hear about "the one that got away" for the rest of our lives. I was agonizing over it due to the cost. Hands down the best acoustic I've ever played and worth every penny. My wife was absolutely right. I would have regretted not purchasing it for the rest of my life. Fantastic guitar.

    When I heard the opening jam my first thought was "This reminds me of John Butler trio", the open C is what I was hearing. If you haven't heard John play you should check out Ocean live for sure. The maple back and sides acoustics always sound bright to me and that one with the 25.5 scale (I think) and big body is great for open tunings and strumming.

  • @Mattro_KoS
    @Mattro_KoS Před měsícem

    I have the electric cutaway version of this guitar in black. Definitely have to agree with you its quite a stiff playing guitar. Tuning it to Eb is a good idea i think im going to try that. Overall the biggest thing I don't like about it is how quiet it is. Its a jumbo guitar but it doesn't sound as loud as my cheap folk style acoustic. Maybe because mine has the cutaway it isnt as loud. The electronic pickups on this guitar sound VERY good for the price though... I mean the electronics out match most other premium acoustic pickups ive heard. Overall great guitar its very gorgeous and great build quality.

  • @gregmock6808
    @gregmock6808 Před měsícem

    I used to have a gigantic jumbo 12 string that I traded away a few years ago and it sounded beautiful but was a beast to play....I found it to be a better capo cowboy chord guitar in the end....you might string it in Nashville or High Strung style with the top high strings of a 12 string set on top. Paul Simon did that a lot in his recording.

  • @bluesrocker91
    @bluesrocker91 Před měsícem

    If smaller styles like parlour and folk sizes are the kings of finger picking, and the dreadnought is the general jack of all trades acoustic, the jumbo is definitely the king of strumming.
    I had an Ibanez jumbo years ago, and that was a real strummer's rhythm machine too. When finger picking it tended to get a bit lost in the mix, but when strumming chords it was perfect. A mate of mine has an early '90s Gibson J200 and that's very much the same.
    Pete Townshend used a J200 on virtually everything The Who recorded from about 1969 onwards, so I'd probably have to play Pinball Wizard or Behind Blue Eyes on it... That's what I always end up playing on my mate's Gibson anyway.
    I might have to get one now... 😂

    Excellent playing, as always, and a nice-sounding/looking instrument. Have to admit, i like the sound of big acoustics but struggle to play dreadnoughts and the like, so I have a Guild parlour guitar (and keep ogling "grand concert" and "grand auditorium" sized instruments).

    I think you sound better on an acoustic without the effects. Understand with the electrics, but your classic blues always sounds impressive and believable when you play it on an acoustic. I'm no expert, but I think that a rare skill. I suppose it's something to do with synthetics versus resonance. Well played.

  • @MrMoneyHelper
    @MrMoneyHelper Před měsícem

    The neck should be level from top to bottom. Some are designed to slope away at the higher frets, but not so much that the action is unplayable. When a neck gets to the condition you described, it needs to be removed and reattached at the proper angle. Only a skilled luthier can do it. I owned an Ovation 12 string that developed that problem. Luckily I was able to trade it for a trio of PA speakers.
