Today I started looking at getting a mini jersey cow. So I come across your video. And I was shocked to hear your son's name Lochlan witch is what we just named our son. I had never heard it before naming our son.

So, how is that electric fence going to work in winter when you have 2 or three feet of snow on the ground? Is it going to short out all the time? It looks like a great idea. Can you deactivate the bottom two lines or something similar ? I "have first dibs" on a heifer that will be available this summer or early fall. I'm really looking forward to getting fresh milk at home. Cheese, ice cream, butter, and beef if she has a bull when she is bred. It seems like a miniature jersey gives you a lot of "expensive" food stuffs.
Great question! We don’t get a lot of snow here, if we do, it’s only a few inches and goes away quickly. We don’t know of a way right now to deactivate the bottom 2 lines but you could probably find a fence that has fewer lines.

Just saying and im a cow farmer and i show dairy cows but your halther was on the part that is around her borns needs to be around her lower muzzle
You're right. The vet that came out and told us the same thing. Some of those clips were prior to the vet visit. We're learning a little more each day. We'd love to hear if you have any other pointers for us. - Stephen

Try joining some FB groups and keeping an eye on craigslist. If you find one locally you hit the jackpot! I would expect to have to travel a bit to get one since the breed is more rare.

How much milk does she give each day? Also, are they hard to find? Expensive?
We get 1.5-2 gallons each day. Mini jerseys are a bit hard to find and can be expensive. We were blessed to get a great deal on her.

Go in knowing that mini jerseys are harder to find and you may need to be open to crossing state lines. But we recommend searching for and joining some Facebook groups!

the stimulus money was for paying rent/mortgage and savings for a turbulent economy. not to buy a cow...
A cow = food for our family. It also saves us money on buying milk from a separate local farmer. I think it was a pretty good investment. 🙂
