Chef Spargo needs his own channel. He is definitely a master of his craft.
He absolutely is a master chef isn’t he.
I agree
I always look forward to an episode with where Jims involved. I lost my dad a few years ago and the two of them are so similar, its super heart warming for me. Love him
I am sorry to hear about that Dan.
@@TheFishLocker thanks John, just keep doing what youre doing my man. 💪🏻
I’m assuming Jim is your dad? Love it!
What a great episode. I love knowing how to dispatch and process squid. Best part is the wonderful relationship between these two friends. Can’t wait to try these recipes myself. Thank you!!
I hope the video was helpful to you. 😊👍🏻
Jim seems like the kindest man on earth and would seem like the favorite grandpa and the way he speaks makes it seem like he really thinks and expresses his knowledge well done well done
Jim is simply wonderful 😊💙
Wow! Jim, you are the man when it comes to cooking up amazing dishes, thank you for sharing 😃& John thanks again for bringing another wonderful feast to the table😀
It is our pleasure my friend. 🦑😊

Jim's dishes all looked amazing, especially that risotto - more Spargo's kitchen please 😋
I am glad that the video has been interesting and helpful to you Natalie. Best wishes and have a lovely day. 👍🏻🦑😊
@@TheFishLocker thankyou, and same to you and yours ☺️

Jim is simply wonderful isn’t he. 😊🦑👍🏻
That was a brilliant cook up some fantastic dishes. And a massive thank you for inviting us in to your kitchen . Cheers John & Jim. 👍👍
It is our pleasure mate.
I so wish I could smell those dishes! I'm convinced that there isn't anything that two of you catching and cooking together that wouldn't be tasty and look good. (Hope that came out right!) I love the natural ease that Jim brings to his cooking as well as his vast knowledge. Just awesome! Best wishes to you all, Kev and Co.
Jim is simply wonderful isn’t he. 😊👍🏻
Delicious squid cookup 😋 You make it all so enjoyable to see and HEAR. Great sounds of crunch. Your squid toot was a hoot 😄
Haha. We tried to keep our composure but at times like that you've just got to laugh. 🤣🤣🤣
I suspect that Jim just knows everything. I learn so much from him. Thank you, Jim and John for sharing.
Jim is simply wonderful isn’t he. 😊🦑
Great to see Jim on the show again!
He is wonderful isn’t he.
Wow. These are so amazing. These gorgeous creatures. Thanks so much for sharing John. And Jim, I learn so much from you in the kitchen. Much love to all. ❤
Another brilliant video John, always learn so much from yourself on the fishing side of things and from Jim on the cooking side of things, thanks to you both!
It is our pleasure Stephen. 😊👍🏻
Love to watch Jim bring a real feast together. Love to be in the kitchen with him as I love cooking too! :)
Jim is wonderful isn’t he.
In some ways Jim reminds me of my grandfather, who could barely cook an omelet but had similar mannerisms in both movement and speech. He was a police officer and passionate hunter, taught me both to respect nature and how to survive in the wild (among many other things), I hope I'll have the patience to pass all that to my kids.
We are doing our best. Some things cannot be learned in school.
Your father-in-law has astonished me by mixing chorizo with the squid or chickpeas. Here in the Basque Country we cook them in many various ways, but the most popular and truly delicious is with sauce made with their own ink; very few ingredients and a spectacular flavor. Greetings from Getxo.
Jim has a skill of connecting things I wouldn’t normally put together and make it taste amazing.
I always enjoy watching Jim in the kitchen. He is inspiration for me. Dishes he creates are amazing. Thank you for sharing.
He is amazing isn’t he 😊
Love watching Jim cook, he make me hungry watching all the great stuff he fixes! Best wishes!
Thank you Lee, have a lovely day. 😊👍🏻
I am so glad you do this quickly and painlessly, many of the squid catching or sea food catching and killing do it in a torturous way, and I am so happy you do it in a humane fashion. You earned my love, bless your heart.
I felt it was important to demonstrate and educate the swiftest and most humane way. 👍🏻🦑
Hey guys i love Spargo's Kitchen you are both Amazing.
those squid rings looked SOOOO good
They were delicious!!
This reminds me of my late brother, who was a cook in Provincetown at the tip of Cape Cod. I still have a cookbook that one of the local cooks wrote that featured recipes from the local Portuguese fishermen who were still around in the mid-20th century. There's a squid stew recipe that was featured that I got up the nerve to try. Red wine, tomato, hot pepper, diced potato and of course squid. It kicked like a mule and stunk up the house, but it tasted fabulous. I haven't had it in decades, but this reminded me of it, and of my brother in his cottage in Provincetown.
I am glad we could bring back memories of a happy time for you. 😊🦑
Yessssss I've wanted to see Jim deal with a squid!! Amazing to see, thank you!
It was absolutely delicious. Every part was perfect. 👌🏻
@@TheFishLocker I haven't finished the video! Just so excited to see the prep and hear you and Jim explain everything.
Jim always amazes me, no matter what species you present him with he knows in an instant the dishes he will make and the ingredients needed. I guess that's the difference with him being a long time chef and not just a cook. He also always produces two or three dishes and not just the one. Great stuff.
He has been a professional chef for over 4 decades. And it shows. 😊👌🏻
Jim comes across as an absolute gentleman.
One of the best men I have ever known.
I know that you, know how blessed you are to have John,, and we see in both of you how much fun and respect, an love you have for each other,,
I am very fortunate to have been given Jim as a father in law. 💙
Since I am new to this channel I'm catching up with the past ones. So happy belated birthday Jim I love watching you cook even though I don't eat anything that swims . What a wonderful family indeed. Thanks for sharing these amazing videos with us. ❤
Yet another awesome video John. I enjoyed watching you and Jim cleaning and deliciously cooking in a quite simple way.
Thank you, you are welcome. 👍🏻😊
Well done you two. This is the first one I have watched, it looks like there could be many more! Jim knows how much I like my fresh fish!
We will continue to share all the videos and adventures that we can. 😊👍🏻🦑

Just watched the video john my wife has got right into your cooking with jim really clear and informative keep them coming john
Brilliant. Jim is a wonderful man isn’t he.
Drooling here watching a master chef and master fisherman in the kitchen.
Love squid. 🎣🐟🦐🦀
The squid rings I could eat every day. 😊👌🏻🦑
I've never had squid, not brave enough. But Jim makes it look amazing.
Also, milk. It's milk that helps the burn.
Haha. Yeah. 👍🏻
those squid dishes looked amazing. They have lot of work preparing them but so little time to cook. Thank you Jim, your demonstration is so interesting.
They’re not so long to prepare once you’ve done a few.
Hi Jon & Jim,
Fantastic videos. My wife and I are totally hooked (sorry). Your knowledge and skills of catching, cleaning, filleting and then cooking fish is incredible. Thanks for all you do.
Barry in Essex
Thank you very much Barry and best wishes to you and your good lady.
You end Jimy 2 wonderfol Fischer man end fantastic to see cooking. Nice video. I like forever. ❤
Thank you.
Bless you Mr. Squid!
👍🏻🦑
love your clean and cook episodes with Jim. such a wonderful character.
Thank you.
Another cooking plus video, I love the harvest to plate. Funny I need to snack on something during the video. Smashing the thumbs up (again.) Going to have pasta with squid ink. Sure that was the squid being cleaned.....lol.
Haha. He promises me it was not trapped gas. 🤣🤣
Lovely! Some call the Chitinous backbone a pen, some a quill. Do not waste the ink! it is full of flavour. Try it in the marinade... It is sold in sachets.
It is what is used in Italy to make Pasta- Pasta Nero. Jim a belated happy birthday, I do love watching and listening to you in the Kitchen. Perhaps John would like Chorizo made with mild Pimenton (smoked paprika)? Chilli is worth persevering with, my wife had much the same reaction to chilli John, but she persevered now
she likes her curry's Madras heat! If you take say Habanaro chilli's and remove the capsule and seeds then soak in cold water over night they can be salted
then kept a few weeks in olive oil, this way you get a little of the heat but most of the flavour..
I must admit I’ve always been a bit of a wimp with spice. 🤣🥵
I always enjoy watching the catch n cook videos ., Thank you for sharing your recipes and showing how they are made. Home cooked meals are always the best!
It is our pleasure Dannielle. 😊
Love all the cook ups on the beach, but especially look forward to Jim cooking!! No nonsense straight forward cooking... I've learnt how to cook my wife a good risotto from Jim and his little tips he gives - thank you for that. My personal favourite way of eating squid is, just scored then cured using lemon juice. (Only the smaller ones though)
Cool. I love Jim’s cooking too. 🦑👍🏻
Thanks Jim and John and belated birthday wishes. The quill or Gladius (Sword) of the squid supports it's elongated body. The soft bodied cephalopods are very short lived but noted, especially the octopus, for their intelligence. The ammonite fossils you found had cephalopods living inside and protected by the outer shell. Nautilus sill live today in similar form. One way I enjoy squid is to stuff the body with a crab or fishcake mixture and then bake. They are a marvelous creature and a sustainable food source.
Interesting aren’t they. 👍🏻
Definitely and they ruled the oceans for millions of years.
Watching Jim preparing and cooking really is a Masterclass. Nice one.
John, Jim another fantastic example how we all should be - family, friends sharing great memories- Happy belated birthday Jim 🎉
Regards
Martin / Michelle
We are simply sharing what we love doing. Best wishes guys and take care. 😊🦑
Absolutely squidilicious! All of it looks very scrummy. Another great catch and cook. Keep em coming! Big thanks to you all.
Glad you enjoyed joining us. 😊🦑
Brilliant video again, thank you both!
My pleasure mate.
Yet again Jim cooks up another absolute feast using the squid, they were simple but packed with flavour and colour as always a real pleasure just wish CZcams had smelly vision because I bet the aromas were amazing
I am glad that you enjoyed joining our squid feast Debra. 😊🦑
@@TheFishLocker definitely and look forward to more catch and cooks
The hard, shiny, transparent part of the squid (as seen at 6:19 ) is called the Gladius (cause it resembles the shape of an roman short sword used by gladiators). It’s the part of the squid that will stay around for the longest (the oldest one found was ~150 million years old) cause it’s made of the same substance as the exoskeletons of insects (Chitin).
Fascinating arent they. 🦑👍🏻
My favorite seafood ‼️
Thanks for all the effort you put into these videos John. Cook-ups are the best
It is our pleasure Nico. Best wishes and have a wonderful day. 😊🦑👍🏻
Many thanks.. will try this another time
Our pleasure Tony.
Heaven on a plate! truly awesome...

We have 2. 👍🏻
Thanks to Jim, great showcase of passion thought the video.

Some of my most favorite episodes involve the head chef at Spargo, Jim with John and the family cooking up john’s catches!
I am glad you enjoy them Regan.
Very good John and Jim , absolutely mouthwatering dishes ! Knocked out the park again Jim ! 👏🏼 👏🏼 . appreciate both your efforts 👍🏼👍🏼
It is our pleasure. 😊
That fried squid in batter looked amazing! I've not long had my tea but my mouth was still watering after watching this. Thanks guys, I look forward to your videos.
Stevie it was absolutely divine!! 🦑👌🏻
❤️ thanks fish locker fam! ☺️

Another great cook up John! I tried cooking squid years ago but didn't turn out very well. This gave me confidence to study up and try again! Happy Belated Birthday to Jim!!
It’s definitely worth a second try. 😊🦑
That’s one of the best spargo’s kitchen yet. I love squid 🦑 all the best to Jim.
Thanks Jimmy. 🦑
Absolutely spot on 🙌
Glad you liked it. 👍🏻😊
Great Vid and you can tell Jim really loves being in the kitchen and is passionate about cooking. Squid is one of my favorite seafood and love cooking it up fresh after catching it.....those long tenticles which they grab there food with we call "the candles" and they are sensational to eat. Nearly fell off my chair when they went into the discarded tray. They are sweeter then the other tenticles and delicious
That is odd. The candles? 🤷🏻♂️
I would love to taste your guys cooking! *mouth waters* I love your videos!
Jim is an amazing chef isn’t he. 😊
Another fantastic video, ty.
Our pleasure Graham. 😊👍🏻

Belated Happy Birthday Jim🎂I find my peace watching you cook.. Beautiful video to watch John, thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you Sir. 😊🦑
Again John another super video! Love it! Cheers Jim.
Any time bud.
Hello from Prince George BC Canada. I've rather enjoyed watching you and your family fish and cook seafood.......I'm so jealous! Where we live is a minimum of 8 hrs travel to reach the ocean(Pacific coast) . The fishing in this area is mostly lake and river......ice fishing is a thing here too. There are so many regs to obey around here it can get quite expensive to simply go fishing. But these help keep stocks up and healthy......and not extinct! Types of fish range from salmon, steelhead( ocean going trout), kokanee ( landlocked salmon) to rainbow trout and white fish, most are decent eating too.
Thank you for what you do! I've found it therapeutic.
Keep doing what you do!
Thank you for sharing a little of what you do and fish for. 👍🏻😊🐟
0:37 that shot directly to the face lol
He loved it really. 🤣💦
Jim is a lovely fella as always..and a very good chef!
Jim is wonderful isn’t he. 😊💙
You have such a lovely family John. Love the videos & wish you all the very best. 😊
Thank you mate.
What a treat! Thank you for the concise instruction on beheading squid! The practical demonstrations were vert informative! (whether successful or not!)
Haha. Thank you Liz.
Fantastic, everything looked delicious.
It really was mate. 👍🏻🦑
Enjoyed that, thanks guys!
It is our pleasure.
Nice video again John 💙
Cheers Henry. 👍🏻😊
This video reminded me that I haven't ate squid in so many years, mostly because my area is sparse in good seafood options. The food your father in law made looks absolutely delicious, especially the fried squid!
I have used the "bone" and ink from the same squid to write my name all the way back in middle school, so I can confirm that you can indeed write with the innards of a squid!
Haha. That’s so cool. Thank you for sharing that with it Arianna. 😊🦑
Inspirational, well done you two , I’ll be trying fishing 🥇🎣for squid as soon as I can , thanks again lads
Good luck Cliff. 👍🏻😊🦑
Yum! I love squid. Wish I could catch some of those here in sweden, we do have have a bigger version here, but they're not as good eating in my opinion...
I really enjoy these catch and cooks, seeing someone else cook is like listening to jazz, it gives me ideas and inspiration;)
I agree with the inspiration. But maybe not the jazz. 😉🤣
@@TheFishLockerhahahahaha
I feel so much joy and peace at the same time just watching you cook together. I dream of cooking someday like Jim, I tried to do fried squids a few weeks ago but they are far from that perfection level I just saw. Next time I will put this video on repeat and cook with you to get all steps right :)
Jim is a wonderful chef isn’t he. 😊
Bloody hell John you replied just wait when I asked how to cook em and Wor Jim cooked up a storm absolutely FANTASTIC mate. Tbh never gonna catch but now Jim ( happy belated birthday) has shown us how to do properly I’m very happy. Thankyou ever so much John what a Blinder. Props to the fam as well
Just doing what we can to spread a little bit of joy and education.
Megalike and enjoy 🍀👍🍀
