It's such a shame this project never took off properly. It was really looking like this was going to be at least something that Redbull would experiment with but alas, we never got it. We can only hold onto hope maybe the next generation of rule changes may be a bit kinder to different engine variations.

I was worried about missing the roar of those V8s but I'm really loving the sound the TT V6 is making!
I'm so glad that this transition from a V8 to a V6 sounds so good. Much better than when F1 did it. In my opinion this thing sounds just as good as the old V8. I like it.

How good is the flutter when down shifting! A full on board lap would've been nice. Love watching Murph drive
Murph #51 was awesome
detroit nelson let them have an opinion the world doesn’t revolve around your opinion
czcams.com/video/taii81xNbhE/video.html there you go ✔️
If only Holden sold em with a factory turbo option
Reminds me of the stock block Buicks that used to race in the Indy 500 up until 96. This V6 can growl! Love it!
That compressor surge flutter is music to my ears I might even get foxtel to watch next year
Lol nothing happened after this “development”
F1 fucked up the switch to the V6.
THAT SOUNDS FUCKING AWESOME!
lukaku20wba i like the v6 in f1 more than the v8 in sound...sounds unique
having heard both in person, the f1 6's sound 10 times better lol
F1 sound puts me to sleep lol
NurbKingSim True. The cameras miss a lot of the noise
agreed .....i couldnt keep my eyes open at F1 in Austin - the sound was hypnotic
I love watching drivers who left-foot brake. Takes me back to my karting days.
You didn’t do shit
Most left foot brake with sequentials neway, if they don't they ain't doing it right.....
everyone racer left foot brakes... its not the 80s
Why are people so butthurt? Do people even realise their road going LS series is not the SB Chev the teams use? The chassis is not the chassis you drive on the road. These cars couldn't be further from the Holdens and Fords you actually drive.
Jeremy techically speaking, holden and ford still use engines based on those from 60s and 70s
That's pretty apt Lucius. The 60s and 70s are where most Supercar fans are stuck.....the time when V8's ruled before things like turbos became a common thing in cars.
But as the name suggests now - Supercars, not touring cars. A touring car series would see alot better racing especially at Bathurst like it was before, in the era we are talking about.
Where cars were winning by laps instead of seconds? Anyone who complains about the level of competitiveness in modern supercar racing is viewing the past with very rose coloured glasses.
Today it's all about the drivers. Everycar in V8 supercars is exactly that, exact same formula tube chassis supercar. All identicle, same power, same suspension. Nothing actually local holden or ford except the panels. The better driver wins, the more reliable car wins. Boring for me because I like to see what manufacturers can bring to the track to win or to have the edge over the others.
Great to see some classic left foot action from one of the best!!
I love the sound of a v-8 but this TTv6 sounds great!!
Sounds great but rip the roar of the v8s will be missed
Michael Billings There is still gonna be V8s you know.
Sassil the Sasquatch! If you mean in Supercars? You're wrong :/ it's unfortunate but they seem to be going down the same path as formula 1 down grading engine size to lower emissions (don't quote me on that) but we'll get the same times and stuff.... But I'm gonna miss the sounds of those V8s just like I miss the sounds of the V10s in formula 1
Agreed!!!!
Rochelle Murguia and you ruined this comment section
10 years time f1 will be on pushbike, v8 supercars will be 31cc single cylinder skate boards
why do emissions matter when its 15 to 25 cars racing for a few hours once every few weeks ffs.......cut emissions on road cars and leave race cars to roam freely in their natural habitat!
its like painting a leopard bright pink or removing a lions teeth!
rant over.!
maybe
Oh hell yes and good to see Greg behind the wheel again at Bathurst
Sounds like a Buick with a hectic habib turbo
A hectic beloved turbo? That's what habib means.
Literally cracking up right now😂😂
Lol
look up hectic habib and his canary yellow vl turbo
DVN no he didnt. He meant habib. Hectic Habib VL Turbo
This thing sounds great. That turbo flutter just tops it off.
I love that Turbo V6 sound!
Most traditionalists in the Australian Supercar championship will always prefer the distinctive engine note of the V8 but this turbocharged V6 doesn't sound too bad. It is a much better sounding engine than the V6 in F1, which sounds like a turbocharged vacuum cleaner. Those engines may have seen technological advancements in fuel efficiency and technology, but they are harming the sport because they are far too complicated and expensive and have taken a huge part of the experience of an F1 weekend away from the fans, because the noise of the cars lacks considerably when compared to the likes of the magnificent V10 of between 1995-2005.
Noel Burland - you're very kind using the phrase 'traditionalists', I'd say something along the lines of 'v8 knuckle draggers'...
Aor87 The traditionalists remember the days of 4s and 6s mixing it up. Of Minis going up the inside of Mustangs at the elbow and then getting blown into the weeds down conrod. Traditionalists remember Peter Williamsons Celica making Camaros look slow. The history of Bathurst is all about different sizes of cars and engines going at it.
I'm going to miss a full field of V8's, but time marches on. As long as the racing is good I'll still be watching.
Like many, I look at the various series' and wonder what the future holds. In 20 years most cars sold will probably be either full electric of hybrids, and will drive themselves (and if you choose a car without self-drive, your insurance premiums will probably be higher).
What till they are freaking electric.
Noel Burland everything you just said couldn’t be any further from the truth.
Wastegates and atmospheric blow-off valves are okay by me 😍
Still faster than a Mclaren Honda
Funny you should say that as McLaren are the current owners of the Mt Panorama lap record.
Bhahahahahaha looooseeeerr
@@matgee8892 In a Mclaren Mercedes which was way better than the mclaren honda
@@thespookymilkman7015 actually for a while the Mclaren GT3 car held the lap record driven by Shane Van Gisburgen in one of the Bathurst 12 hours, Jensens lap in the Mclaren Mercedes is the unofficial lap record however both the Mclaren Merc and the gt3 are faster than Mclaren Honda 😂
The most successful f1 car of all time is a Mclaren Honda. The mp4.
Lap of the turbo gods with Murph 😂👍
What about Scott McLaughlin? Greg's was 2:06.8594, Scott's was 2:03:8312, 3 seconds faster is much quicker.
@@BatMan-oe2gh Someone didn't get the joke
My god that Flutter. I think the V8 got a great successor
Ofitus 21 sounds horrible
Sounds like an old Audi S1 Group B rally car which sounded awesome back in their prime.
detroit nelson It is a phrase used to show amazement or shock. Unlike you I won't immaturely insult you
Don't bother dude, that person is just a troll, leave them be, they want attention.
The flutter's about the only good thing. Sounds very European and mild, like it could do a 24 hr or something
thank you for not adding any lame music to this clip. i think it sounds pretty radical for a V6....
That is an awesome sounding V6!
I see they have finally found a way to keep Murph from punting his fellow competitors off the track, put him on alone.
Marcos Ambrose approves of this comment 👍🏻
Cant stand Murphy, he throws tantrums and is rude asf. Plenty of other kiwi drivers that would of loved to take his place
He punted Ambrose all the way the God damn US and A.
@@Gman1044 Lets not forget what he did to Bargwana as well. The guy is a full time fuckwit.
Sounds amazing. Looks great too, love the wagon with spoiler.
So what were the lap times compared to the v8?
Probably not as fast as the V8 Commodore considering this was a sandman without the same aero
Greg Murphy also broke the 2003 Bathurst 1000 Lap Record in the Kmart Racing VY Commodore
what's the fuel usage like compared to the v8? Any heat issues for the turbos in such a long race like bathurst?
Bring back series production cars, not million dollar prototypes.
fuk yeh
Umm that wasn't a prototype lol its the model about to be released to the public or the model that has just been released to the public
@@bluehornet197 definitely not
@@mattymaher3 umm year mate lol the monaro that Peter Brock drove in the 03 bathurst 1000 was the model the new monaro that was about to be released you can even look that up

Sounds so much better then F1
Minh Le so much slower than f1
Wz Tr your point?
joe mudda just f1 is really quiet the noise
Sorry
Minh Le fair enough friend
when did holden start making the 2 turbo v6 commodores in australia
Best car engine vid I have seen for noise 10 out off 10 for me 👍🏁
So awesome, this will sound great mixed in with the V8s
Have a listen to this thing dammm makes me want my Ute to sound like hahaha
Thank god they listened to the fans and kept the v8s.
Well it's as boring as it possibly could be even though it's got the best drivers ever now.
Ive owned both, an R32 gtr and most recently a 06 R8, and at 26yrs old that twin turbo was a force to be reckoned with. This TT V6 sounds exciting and should have alot of potential.
Twin turbo or put a blower on that ute
NOW!!!
Or put the Buick V6, built for big boost in her and get 1000+HP. Of V6 powa baby. i have an Ecotec turbo that's ran high 9s with a bad rear end and other issues, due to spending everything on the motor ans drive train so far. Shes had major top and bottom end work. Runs a single 92mm turbo and haltech ECU. Wasn't too laggy even before nitrous, having a few more cubes than most jap cars and once made a 1311hp 40psi hub dyno pull! But unlike when I was pushing stockish V6s to their limits, I now have to turn it down to make sub 10 passes 😂
I could have 2X900-1500hp, reliable LS engines for what I spent on the boosted mang engine.
the wagon look super cool
Aye, Greg Murphy back at it again
What was the alert that he got and cleared around 1:17?
Who edited this video? Their ADD is showing through with the camera change every 1.5 seconds
What was the lap time?
I want to know as well
Matthew Smyk It was about a 2:16.
Crosses the line @ 0:19 & 2:35 so roughly 2:16, but it looked like he wasn't going 100%, lifted well early before the chase
Matthew Smyk I'd bet it's not near the 2.03 the v8 put down.
he deeeefinitely wasn't going 100%. it's a development car still, not a machine that's in race trim
Sv6 🤤 love them...
Can’t remember if I made a comment on this but I was there for this lap and the car sounded amazing wish my sv6 could sound half this.
So what was laptime vs the ol v8s?
so what was the whole point of banning turbos then bringing them back...because it was heaps better when it was group a
ben pasquale the whole point was to get rid of the GTR and to some extent the ford turbo too. It has taken 20 years for the old v8s to catch up, they are now only a few seconds faster than 20 year old cars without all the Aero........ think about that. I miss Godzilla! Rarrrrrrrh.
which means the gtr and serrias will be able to come back
That exit at 1:51 when the turbos spool 😳😳
What exhaust does it use?
Does anyone what lap time the V6TT can pull at Bathurst?
Was that a 2:17?
You mean the sound of the music?
@@ryanokeefe12 lap time
Sierra RS500's were doing 2:17's 30 years ago with a 4 cyl engine, bicycle tyres & added parity weights!
Oh no! Not change! people really are resistant arent they. Not fussed either way, but aren't they changing to this spec engine to open the category up to other manufacturers? It'd be great to see it back to something similar to the 80s before all this holden/ ford shit became the norm. Don't forget even the great Peter Brock drove a Volvo, a Beamer and a Sierra at one time or another.
might start watching again hate the v8's with a passion. look like taxis can't tell them apart
I've got to agree. The current series is boring, and I've been following the categories since the early 80's. Group C was fantastic, what a mix of engines and cars in the field. The new twin turbo does sound great, looks bloody quick too.
Yeah open it right up, get the mini's back in spanking big engines on the mountain, holden V ford is like a crusty nugget dangling off australia's ass, cut the thing loose. Bringing variety to a race is more appealing then a stupid grudgematch between 2 dead manifacturers
Anyone know the actual lap time he posted?
Love the sound of it.
I wish they didnt suspend development, this car is a beast.
It had a great note at the track. (Even said to Roland Dane and Greg Murphy at the time it sounded like an Audi S1 rally car to which they half chuckled and agreed with)
51 Murph is a God...
He should be a wildcard on Sunday... 😎
I wanna know what v6 engine this based off? Never heard which one
what was the lap time ..pls.. anyone know
10 min penalty Murph!
no v8🤔
It would be interesting to see how it compares to current v8s i regards to lap times around mt panorama.
About 13 seconds slower per lap. Now that Scotty Mclaughlin did his 2:03.8 in the Top Ten.
They weren't actually "racing" it, it was just a demo.
That being said Dane has said it still needs some work, but they don't introduce it until 2019.
Theoretically it should be quite capable though - the appeal of a V6TT is that it has really good power output with a *lot* less weight.
That being said, the Supercars rules suggest they would be equalising the cars so if you're using a V6TT you have to weigh the car down.
It's an odd plan...
Anyone know power & torque figures in this trim?
What motor is in it, is it just a Alloytec?
V8’s🏁🏁🏁
Sounds so good!!!!!! Also wish Red Bull use that test livery all next season.
detroit nelson The team who builds and designs parts for all teams and this V6TT is called Red Bull Holden Racing Team, commonly abbreviated to simply "Red Bull". You fucken degenerate.
Anyone know what sorta times it ran around Bathurst was it competitive?
I heard it was a couple of seconds slower
Is there footage of just exterior shots?
thank u supercars..sign.off time
Won't be any match for the big Ford turbo... go the barra!!!
Private user. They won't be using your so much loved BARRA so you can forget about that
barra is shit and they are out of production so fuck off please :)
Fuck off back to China you stupid Panda
Sim00110 I bet he's actually just a bogan. They love their Holdens and ever non-Holden is automatically terrible. They'd prefer to drive a Barina over a 5-series.
Still struggle to keep up Holden domination
Do you know how long it took to get around the track? Red Bull Holden Racing Team ?
OOOH ! a twin turbo 6cyl,better ban that,
It's ok and I like the flutter but if the V8 Supercars actually do this then there is no point calling it "V8 Supercars" and I can not think of any cooler name unless it is already taken by another Motorsport
It's not called V8 Supercars anymore, they dropped the V8 a few years back, it is just Supercars now.
I guess AVESCO will need to change its acronym?
I missed that one
Galarn! I stand corrected but I still call them V8 Supercars
Godzilla Boy Now it is Supercars only. Although a lot of people still call it V8 supercars
Anyone know the laptime of this Bathurst?
Looks like the days of big huge belching flames bellowing out of the exhausts will return! looking forward to it!
As an American who loves V8 Supercar I'm a little let down. The car looks more bulbous than streamline and the exhaust note isn't doing it for me. Still think it's the greatest form of racing on the planet, just a little bummed I guess. Just one favor, please don't ever go to paddle shifting...that will break my heart...haha.
This isn't going to be the model you'll be seeing. This is just a wagon that's show casing the V6 turbo that will be introduced in 2019. Next year (2018) will be featuring the new 'Holden Commondore' model but with the V8 engine under the bonnet. The new 'Commondore' doesn't look great, it's not Australian or have any DNA of previous Commondores in it and people are pissed. The respectful thing to do is call it something else and put a pin in the Commondore name.
Thanks for the update...glad it won't look like a wagon.
Fucking hell it will never be better then the mighty Barra
I’m gonna see it tomorrow at Bathurst and it sounds so good
Where is and who has this car now? I never saw it again after the Bathurst debut.
Its just a Supercar chassis. It was also the RedBull Drift car that SVG drove as well from memory. But now the Groves own it www.supercars.com/news/championship/triple-eights-sandman-changes-hands/
Sorry correction the drift chassis isn't the Sandman chassis.
Holden were doing a concept torana in 2006, v6 twin turbo. Looked cool. Be like the marine engine surpliers, build their own design engines.
How can people prefer the sound of this? as if the sound of a v8 screaming over the mountain and down conrod doesn't sound 100 times better
Obviously the V8 is wonderful, but this is not a bad sound. At least, it sounds better than other V6TT
This is a good sounding motor but nothing compares to the v8 sound.
Steven Alush im a huuugggeee turbo straight 6 over v8 guy...but wtf are they thinking?? Dont fuck with something thats not broken! It was only getting better with other manufacturers coming into the sport...now we have this to look forward too! 😔🤧😱
Meh, but it still looks like an Aussie made Holden cos it is. When its that heap of crap Opel, yeah just great..
While I agree with you, sadly the supporters saying they prefer a V8 but with sales down most supporters not driving locally produced
cars, its just how it is.
to be honest today will be the last Mt Panorama i will support
Why? It's still all V8s next year. They aren't allowed to introduce the V6TT to the race lineup until 2019, and even then, not everyone will necessarily adopt the V6TT.
How much boost is it running and what kind of times dose it achieve?
Sick boost and awesome times.. Who gives a f@%k! Go watch euro wank racing and get all the boost you want. Seriously lol
The turbo noises on that thing... Plus the straight cut gears. oh my lord.
"V8 Supercars"
"V8"
Except they dropped the V8 from the Supercars name a few years ago. Teams are allowed to develop either a Turbo 4cyl, Twin turbo V6 or naturally aspirated V8
That wastegate tho ❤️❤️
If you are talking about the sound when he lifts off the throttle that isn't the wastegate, it's called flutter or surge and is on the compressor side.
DriftNick the turbo flutter usually is caused by an external wastegate. People usually run no blow off valve and only wastegates to get the flutter.
The sound is from the compressor side, the wastegate is on the exhaust side and has nothing to do with it.
DriftNick as long as there is no air escaping when it does a blow off. Then it will flutter. But with a wastegate the revs open up and everything is wayyyyyyy louder. Everything is louder with a ext wastagate.
Minus the wastegate part you are correct, wastegates have nothing to do with the sound, you could remove the wastegate and the flutter will happen the same.
What lap times did Murph do?
What top speed did it hit down Conrod straight.
Nissan R32 GTR sounded much better and made more power back in early 90's. Taken Holden 26 years to develop an engine that makes less power and sounds worse, well done!!
BEEF05 ooh a bit touchy there big boy!?
01ajmc to be fair, they could probably turn up the boost quite easily on these and get some massive power figures
01ajmc back in the 90s, the R32 was just another car, it is lauded by you kids so much because you grew up playing computer games. The Group A Sierras at the time were just as fast but couldn't make their 90s tech tyres go the distance. Or were you too young to watch racing back then?
R Soul I'm a 47 year old "kid"! Yeh the rs500 cosworth sierras were an awesome car aswell, the gtr was the only thing that could keep up with or beat them, Holden v8's had nothing.
01ajmc am glad to hear that, it is just most people who revere the R32 are schoolkids, in this case I am proven to be wrong.
Then the F6 comes and chops it lol
there was a storm in australia, they identified it as typhoon

Absolutely James
This thing sounds like a beast, coming over the hills.
Sounds great , i cant wait .
WTF was that shitbox? An old wagon of some dealers backyard with a spoiler.
Nztrailriders you should think yourself lucky that Australia had a proud history of making some of the best muscle cars and road cars in the world. And you should also think yourself lucky that Australia has provided your police force with cars for thirty years when they probably would've been driving British shitboxes. Your little island has produced nothing worth speaking of
Captain Kaos We produced Jim Richards
Captain Kaos We split the Atom, we allowed women the vote first, climbed Mt Everest first, first to drive to the south pole, we invented the Hamilton Jet, the Bungee jump, the Britten V1000... plenty happening in Kiwi land. At least you invented the rotary clothes line in Aus though. Good job with that one.

Jacob Stofmeel Was the rotary lawn mower Aussie too? I seem to recall something about that.
What an insult to all the men and women who built cars in this country, in what is now a defunct industry, to be calling this a Sandman let alone a Holden.....besides...heard better at McDonalds carpark Auburn...
Bravo dean you are completely correct
Winning is winning, regardless of displacement.
Unfortunatly the Holden name should die along with the Australian manufacturing of them!

what was the lap time compared to the v8 ?,even thou an old kiwi was driving :)
2 years late to reply, but I imagine Roland would've killed Murph if he'd attempted to actually find the thing's limit. Out of The Cutting, under the tree, you could see he was being very conservative. Same into The Chase, amongst other places.
whats was his time?
