  • Lutetium Aluminum Garnet (LuAG) is a substance that is created in a laboratory for scientific purposes. Because it ranks pretty high on the Mohs scale, it is also very well suited for jewelry. Watch as award-winning gem cutter, Michael Sackos, facets this BRIGHT man-made gemstone into the “Salamando’s Inferno” design by Arya Akhavan.

Thank you for being the teacher that you are. I have decided to learn this skill at the young age of 73 and you are the reason. Again thank you for sharing your knowledge and giving me a reason to learn something as there is nothing I'd like more than look at sparklies and know I made it! Keep on cutting!

Thank you! The machine does make a bit of difference, but a lot of great cutters are using older machines and models.

So cool, thanks for talking about this stone! I just ordered an 18 carat cut luAG to custom mount in a ring, I can’t wait. I can see this stone becoming more popular over time.

That’s an interesting gem cut. Wondering if you have ever done any facet designs from Marco Voltolini. He has this one called Sparkly Dome, and it would look great with that stone as well. I did a simulation of it on an emerald on gem cut studio and it looks great if you have a good clarity stone.

Yes, I have cut several designs by Marco Voltolini, including "Arpo". I made a video of cutting that design. I have enjoyed cutting his designs.

As a rule, I don't discuss pricing here as my videos are designed as tutorials to help other cutters learn to cut gemstones. If you are interested, my wife, Bopie, has a jewelry store and does sell my gemstones at the store. You are welcome to contact Bopie regarding purchasing any gemstone I cut.
