      Thanks. Well there is good news for you about the Batt laps. Jon at Gearloose just sold the manufacturing of the Batt's to Ultra Tec so UT will be producing the Batt's going forward. Jon can focus on his other lines....and he has taken up cutting again, now that he as some time to cut.

    Hi I love your videos thank you for taking the time. I would like to know where you buy your rough stones like the chatem emeralds. I also have just started cutting. I live in Australia

      If you send me a message on my Facebook (Mike Sackos) we can discuss sources. As far as Chatham Emerald rough, it is no longer available. Tom Chatham used to bring some of his rough to the Tucson Shows every year. But he stopped about 3 years ago. At that time I bought the last of the rough he had. I have met w/Tom since then and he is not selling the rough anymore. He is selling cut Chatham created Emeralds, but no rough. I know that several other cutters have reached out to Tom, but they all get the same answer - he no longer sells the rough. There are other labs that create emerald rough.

    Hi Mike, do you have any advice to remove slurry that has been sucked into a fracture on the bottoms of a piece of sapphire?

    • @BOPIESDiamondsFineJewelry
      @BOPIESDiamondsFineJewelry  Před 6 měsíci

      If you send me as message on FB we can discuss (Mike Sackos). I do know one person who can remove it, but he's not going to tell anyone how he does it (proprietary secret) as he does this for a living. Some techniques for avoiding having slurry sucked into a fracture include, filling the fracture with wax during the cutting of the gemstone or using a lap that doesn't create a slurry such as a 50,000 grit lap from Lightning Laps.

    Awesome 👌
    Just a simple question, is there any place I could buy used good condition untratech faceting machines?
    Thank you😊

    • @jameswelch1054
      @jameswelch1054 Před 8 měsíci +3

      Buy an Ultratech, it will make you a much better cutter. If you really want to buy 2nd hand, ask the people at your local mineral club, where to get one in your area.

      @@jameswelch1054 Thank you for your suggestion but is hard to find here used good one as we do not have many gem cutters.

    • @BOPIESDiamondsFineJewelry

      There is always some risk in buying anything used, including faceting machines. I would say there are two good 'places' to search. The first is a local lapidary club in your area, if you have one. Many of these clubs have equipment and training available on gem cutting, so you can try out different machines. Once you get to know the members of the club, you may find one who is ready to sell his/her machine. The second 'place' I would suggest looking is on Face Book. There are many sites related to gem cutting. One site is called "Faceting Machines Buy & Sell" and if any machine shows up for sale in any social media site, they will note it on this FB page. That site has uncovered several ebay scams reusing legit photos from real sales. You can get fair deals on good machines....but you will be hard pressed to find a super bargain as there are many gem cutters who would snap up a 2nd machine, if the price was very low, and they would turn around and sell it for the 'fair' price....so you can get a good used machine as a fair price, but I don't think you are going to find a good machine for a couple of hundred $s. Best of luck.
