- Ace Combat might not have seen the kind of success that other Bandai Namco franchises have over the years - like Tekken or Dark Souls, for instance - but in its own right, it is a highly successful series not only from a critical perspective, but also a commercial one.
Having amassed a sizeable fanbase over the course of nearly three decades and having sold over 19 million copies across all of its many mainline instalments and spinoffs, Ace Combat is clearly a series with a following, and given Bandai Namco’s plans, it’s clearly going to continue to grow for the foreseeable future.
Of course, we don’t yet know what exactly that future will entail- so here, we’re going to look back at the past. Join us as we take a look at the complete history of the Ace Combat franchise.

You forgot to include that AC series is known for its music as well (Especially among the community). The 2020 Tokyo Opening Ceremony included a song from AC5 is proof of that.

With the ac3 and ac4 soundtracks being the best...bc ac3 had the Crystal Method on it
Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere is still one of my favorite PS1 games. I got the 2 disc Japanese release, which had a lot more story, and more missions. It may have had lower sales, but it still stands as my favorite Ace Combat games. Under rated and under appreciated.
Does it have English text in it as is, or only with a fan translated rom?
@@keness4768 Everything is in Japanese. Hard to understand. But it’s a more complete game and can be played to the end, no problem… provided you have a Japanese or modded PS1.

Couldn't have come at a better time - I just downloaded the newest release, but with Ace Combat 4 as my only prior experience into the series.

I can't get enough of this series. I replay several of these games every year. The stories are surprisingly compelling, the missions have just enough variety to keep you motivated, the controls always feel perfectly responsive, and the music is consistently incredible. Bring on AC8.

What I wouldn't give for an ace combat 8 that is truly next gen.... bandai/Namco, make it happen and proceed to take my money.

Oh yes! I had a lot of fun with that game, was such a surprise! You could feel the love from the devs while playing, hope they can make a sequel someday.

The only ones I've ever played are the original on PS1 (yes, I'm that old), and Ace Combat 7 Top Gun Maverick Edition.
I haven't got a PS5 yet, but release Ace Combat on it and I'm all in :)
4 and 7 were the ones I enjoyed. I do wish, however, that they'd kept it a bit more real. The final missions in the campaigns were ludicrously OTT and a pain to try and complete. You could say that there has been an Ace Combat movie, they just called it Top Gun: Maverick! If there is another then I may give it a whirl.
there's the anime lol Area 88. kinda came in before AC and i bet it served as inspiration for the mercenary theme of 1, 2 and Zero

It's like calling NFS Underground a Racing Sim! XD But yeah, I guess it's a cultural thing, people are used to call games like AC as flight simulator, it's not common to call it "arcade airplane shooter" or something.

This seventh games campaign is at least 4hrs long, but I loved it so much I put in almost 250hrs
How it makes you and your squadron feel like mythical heroes of old flying fighter jets is unrivaled, soundtrack, set pieces, and a surprising amount of lore, all wonderous

Why can’t these gaming companies all get together, like cod, battlefield, ace combat, all of these prominent war game making companies, or even ROCKSTAR too, (I’d like to see all ideas for a solid war game) and make a game that is EXTREMELY well put together, flight controls, character controls, weapons, vehicles, possibly different roles to play as drivers and shooters or whatever for campaign multiplayer integration for a storyline.

@@itzlightspeeder It´s a non cannon mission in ACZ. In which Cipher takes up on many of the previous squads, and in the end, he fights a misterious F-22A codenamed Mobius. It was planned to be one of Cipher´s Nightmares. But the story got cancelled.

No options for take offs and landings in AC7😖 Made it a big NO for me😞 I know it’s NOT a Simulator but really? Landings and taking off options would kill the arcade feel? Not as long as you can pile 50 missiles on your,ahem..fighter.🤣
I feel ya! It's a small detail, but it adds to the feel of being a pilot. Tho I recall you can take off and land sometimes (or am I crazy?!)
@@Apocalyptico100you're not crazy, there are missions where you can take off from carriers or airfields, and a mid-air refueling minigame if you're using a non-carrier capable plane.
