The show was amazing because of Janeway although when it first came out, I didn’t get to see it, but I did hear a friend of mine who was one of these big Trekkie types who I mean, she has her her own thing, including a blog and everything else that she was doing at the time when voyager came out and her comment was yeah it figures they make her a woman and then probably get her to get lost because obviously a woman couldn’t hold it together her attitude was that they made this female captain who is obviously she gets them all lost in the Delta quadrant and they were pretty pissed off because it seemed like anytime they ever showed females in charge of anything. They were always the ones who messed everything up the ones who got lost the ones who end up don’t ask most of the women that I knew, especially this who had her, she was really known as one of the before you know having these channels on CZcams and she had this big following. I don’t know exactly how but she was saying how Star Trek has become a male chauvinist racist, etc. etc. and I didn’t. I hadn’t seen the show so I had no idea what she was talking about and I didn’t pay attention to what she was talking about time passes and I get to see the show mostly admittedly in reruns and I can’t help thinking wow this is better than any of the ones I have been watching certainly better than next generation and it’s better than deep space nine in many ways but I do see her point when she says it’s very male chauvinistic and racist but it took me a while to figure out the worst problem is a lot of these guys don’t even realize what they’re saying is chauvinistic and racist. They don’t realize they’re being sexist pigs, they don’t realize that they’re being racist either and I wish they’d listen to their own interviews and really pay attention to what they’re saying. I mean ensign Wildman I mean, she gives birth on Voyager and is on the ship for seven years and is still at the same rank and so is Harry Kim while Tom Paris White dude gets moved up in rank after a couple of years and even when he is knocked down in rank, he soon very soon afterward is moved once more up in rank not so either Kim or Samantha Wildman how is it that after seven years on board that ship they were not given a field commission, which they could’ve been given just like Tom Paris was and the answer is that Samantha Wildman when she came on board was only supposed to be on board for a short period of time and she was pregnant when she came on board now you could say that she didn’t move up in rank because well she had a kid and that must’ve made her not be able to do her job well enough well that’s a bunch of baloney if you haven’t been watching the show because we know that she is doing her job and that and others take the chore of keeping an eye on her daughter while she is busy doing her job. But if you want to do it that way and say that’s the reason what’s the excuse for not giving Harry Kim who is on Voyager for seven years who has more than one occasion save the damn place a field commission to Lieutenant it doesn’t make sense that he is a part and parcel of the main bridge crew, but he doesn’t even get the rank. He deserves in order to be part and parcel of when it’s the officers that have to have a meeting he’s there but he’s only an ensign (the lowest rank )so it doesn’t make sense that he is there in the first place.

In an interview with Kate Mulgrew discussing her last day on set, the actress was there alone, in character, with the director getting Janeway to say various lines the editors can use. When they said, "Ok, that's a wrap." after she had put so much emotion into those last clips for the editors, and the film crew literally started dismantling the Voyager set, her workplace of SEVEN years - then suddenly Kate Mulgrew was 'just another out of work actor' - it was quite emotionally powerful for her.
Robert Picardo was waiting in the wings, unbeknownst to Kate Mulgrew, wanting be of support to her. Picardo wasn't being paid to be there. He'd already wrapped a day or so previously, but he had such compassion for his fellow actors that he wanted to be there for her.
Robert Picardo said to Kate Mulgrew, something like, "Comeon Mulgrew, let's get drunk." when everything was being taken apart, "because the gig had finished and the crew were just doing the job" of getting the stage for the next production.
I've only been doing film and television for ten years, as a background actor mainly, but when I've had the chance to 'walk the stage' when everything is gone, I have felt quite emotional.

Kate looks and sounds so similar to Katharine Hepburn that she could have been her daughter. I didn't get the chance to see the play on Broadway and was pleasantly surprised to find out that she was performing it in West Palm Beach, FL. I was home for the holidays and went to see her there. It was a one woman play. Due to the small size of the theater, it was a far more intimate theatrical experience than if I had seen it in a Broadway theater. It was also one that I will never forget. Kate was fantastic, she's a good actress.

@FortisConscius Mulgrew said at a convention that "if they stand to make a buck, they will make a film". The question remains as to when a film will be made. Roxanne Dawson said that she thought it had been too long for a film to work. Personally, I think a decade back home, take another mission with much of the origional crew, shit happens, they're back in the delta quadrant. Gives the writers a chance to wrap up unfinished story arcs (Vadwaar, Vidiian) and correct mistakes of the series (C/7).

Mulgrew did something only a very brave actor could do in that situation: she didn’t run from the feminine nature of Janeway. She didn’t try to avoid being a woman captain. She didn’t try to be Picard. Instead she made Janeway a mother to her crew. She showed how a woman can lead as a woman.

Star Trek Voyager is probably my favorite in the series. I remember being about 12 and I had to keep it a secret that I liked Star Trek for fear of being a nerd... I would watch re-runs of random episodes (this was back in 2002 or so.)I thought Voyager was Star Trek itself. I hadn't yet seen the first episode of Voyager and probably just bits of TNG that I didn't care about until later. I asked my uncle one time when talking about Star Trek , "how did they get stranded in far away space in the first place.." It took a few minutes for him to figure out, "oh, you are talking about ST: Voyager." Though I was a young boy I thought nothing about the captain being a female. Now I can see more of its significance. I always like Janeway but I have said if I had to choose i would rather serve under Picard. He was a bit more rational and rather constantly dwelling over moral dilemmas he found ways around them.

Voyager was up and down the first couple of seasons, but Mulgrew really made Janeway an Icon, My favourite Captain after Picard (TNG), but only just... They really let Voyager breathe after the first couple of series and the cast really moulded together, in a way that doesn't seem to happen any more. The focus on story arcs over personal relationship building has left the recent Treks feeling cold and it's not possible to relate to the characters.

that mulgrew gave the janeway character her all probably cannot be doubted even by people who didnt like voyager. top notch performance, every single episode, never phoned anything in (like *cough* some others did).
something interesting i realized a while ago: during the initial run, i did prefer DS9. it was that phase where the episodic nature of most series started to annoy me, and DS9 at least at times allowed itself the longer story arcs one is used to today.
however: for some reason, voyager did age a lot better than DS9, for my taste. in todays world, to just enjoy the occasional trek episode you had forgotten about, the focus on good standalone stories of voyager has become its strenght. im much more entertained watching some super entertaining standalone voyager episode than part 23 of some long story arc on DS9 where i know how its going to end.
weird how that works. anyway, its great that voyager aged that well.

I haven't seen her in much other than Voyager, but I like her best in Orange Is The New Black.

You really can’t underestimate what her role as captain Janeway has done to promote the advancement of women’s rights. Mulgrew did one fantastic job of demonstrating the power and wisdom of a qualified female leader. It shows young girls that anything is possible - even when you are a woman.

Rage, Quite simply, the show was never popular enough to warrant the cost of producing one. Like DS9, it would never have had the capability of drawing a sufficiently sized audience.
