That's why only Trump's lawyers get their names after the selection is completed. If Trump screws up, not even his lawyers will get their names.

      There are great reasons why we need to know these things. If you are ever accused of a horrific crime, jury selection will become one of the most important steps of arguing your innocence.

      She does , and I have zero evidence of this , but she strikes me as a democrat. I’m not saying that she can’t be impartial, but first it’s pretty much impossible to not have an opinion on trump and again I have zero evidence of this but my guess is she keeps up
      With current events and the news coverage and stuff. More so than most people. And if you keep up with that stuff it’s very difficult to be impartial on this particular defendant. I believe she believes she could be impartial. But I just don’t think they are going to find 12 impartial jurors. My guess is the trial ends in a hung jury 8-4 in favor of guilty. And they will decide to not try him again

      This goes against the argument of many that juries are not a good thing and that ordinary are no good at this. They are, and the people that I know that have been on jury service have taken their role very seriously. I trust ordinary people much more than I trust politicians and officials......

    At various stages of my life I've been a jury foreperson, a witness, an accused, a corrections officer, a prosecutor, a P.I., a customs officer, and a victim of crime. The criminal justice system is imperfect, but the jury system is an archaic travesty. Some of my fellow jurors were incapable, and had to be "walked through" evidence and reality by the rest of us.

      Show me the proof that Trump used campaign money to pay for Stormy Daniels; and not by the evidence that money was paid.
      Secondly, tell me why Fani Willis can use campaign money -"which she admitted to on the stand- go on vacation with a married man, and not be charged on the same way?

      That's good thinking but you can't think about all that when you are a juror and it's time to vote guilty or not guilty. You feelings and thoughts about what your vote is going to do doesn't come into play. You are to take all (if any), of the evidence and decide if the person is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Period.

    Do they really think other countries don't have juries? The US literally inherited the jury system from England 😅 In some countries defendants don't tend to choose them because their judges aren't elected, so they actually tend to be less harsh than juries.

      Other countries have trial by jury but voir dire is deliberation over witnesses and evidence, whereas in the USA it includes deliberation over the jury. Most other countries do not have this - unless you have a good excuse people called for jury duty are seated without this examination.

      The American system of allowing politicians to put the judiciary in place is ridiculous, and inherently corrupt. It's something that happens in totalitarian countries.

    This woman nailed this interview and seems like a natural on tv. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think it was 2 journalists talking. Too bad she couldn’t fulfill jury duty. She’d totally be able to communicate logically and respectfully with the composure she just showed on tv.     The reason the judge had for excusing her was interesting. I was called for jury service when I was a self employed independent contractor. If I didn’t work, I didn’t get paid. The judge didn’t care.

    First, I am an appreciative MSNBC viewer but for José Díaz-Balart to say the following "this is the only system like this in the world" shows the height of his conceit, or general lack of knowledge. In case he isn't aware, the US judicial system is modelled after the British common law system which is widely used by commonwealth countries like Australia, Canada, and New Zealand and many others, all of which use the same jury system.

    It's all about civic duty. As much as I despise Trump, if I was on the jury, and the prosecution didn't make the case, I would have to vote to acquit. And I would hope a Trump supporter, who heard evidence to support conviction, would vote in favor of that conviction. That's how it should be, or we don't have a fair system of justice.

There is plenty of evidence to present, and remember all suspects are innocent until proven guilty. All the defense attorneys have to do is cast any reasonable doubt, and that could literally change everything.

      Other countries have trial by jury but voir dire is deliberation over witnesses and evidence, whereas in the USA it includes deliberation over the jury. Most other countries do not have this - unless you have a good excuse people called for jury duty are seated without this examination.

    I served as a juror in a murder trial here in Europe, and I experienced a similar sense of responsibility, duty, and awareness that our decision would profoundly impact someone's life. A juror decides based on facts presented to him, it's not easy to put aside ones emotions.

    I was on a jury, and found it fairly easy to follow the directions given and weigh the evidence. You just get a mindset of how serious it is and how much responsibility that you have.

      They do have some unique features, transparency being one. Also, I don’t know another country where people can speculate without limits, online or in news media, about evidence or guilt, and give their opinion *before* the trial. It would be contempt of court and even perverting the course of justice - a serious crime - in many countries. The most American thing is the sheer extent of plea-bargaining.

      I only watched it once, I dont' see why I would watch it more, but I actually liked it, it's kinda funny watching him explaining something SO basic like that, but also probably EXACTLY what the people they are targetting need in order to be capable of doing it.
