  • This tutorial will show you how to create in Revit this adaptive facade with pattern based curtain wall panels. We will use both Revit’s conceptual mass modelling and a simple Dynamo script to make this curtain wall fully parametric and adaptable to multiple attractor shapes.

      @@RVBoost Hey RV Boost, I had one issue with applying the Panel 3 to a slanted surface. When I divide the vertically slanted surface into a rhomboid, Revit was unable to properly perform divide the surface uniformly. As a result, it is unable to create instances of panel 3 on parts of the surface which was warped by slanting. Is there a workaround for this? e.g. making the 4 points of the Panel 3 adaptable, assigning it parameters so that it could conform to whatever warped rhomboid mesh revit creates as a result of dividing slanted surfaces?
      I am trying to create something similar to the Nanjing Youth Cultural Centre by Zaha Hadid, where scaling attractors were applied to slanted surfaces
      Edit: when doing this in a project environment, the error for set.parameterbyname had an error where it says that the parameter is read-only. Does this mean that the things you showed in this video can only be done in a revit family environment/conceptual mass and not in .rvt project?

    • @RVBoost
      @RVBoost  Před 3 lety

      Hi John. Yes, you're right in using adaptive components instead of curtain panel pattern based where Revit fails to create the latter. The good thing is in more recent Revit versions, when you have created a curtain panel pattern based family, Revit automatically generate an adaptive components that looks identical and has the same number of placement points. Hence, at least you only need to create the family once. Then, you can follow the same principle in this tutorial to drive panel opening size with Dynamo.
      In terms of environment, I can't remember now but the one I used in this tutorial allows editing the required parameter. Please use that.

When the value is more than 0.495 it replaces it with exactly 0.495 as it should, however, when it is lower it associates the whole list of values from Math.RemapRange to EACH of the false values. However, in the case of having 3 unique size eclipses and 2 are cutting at the edge of the building like in your example there. Would it still create the same corner effect as shown in yours? because now you have 3 sets of different distances drawing from 3 different eclipses so eventually the opening areas will be different right?

    • @RVBoost
      @RVBoost  Před 4 lety

      Glad you liked the lesson! In case 2 ellipses at the corner don't have the same size then yes, border panels on each side of that corner will have different opening sizes. This is why I drew these ellipses to the same size as most architects would prefer that in this situation as well.

    Can this be done in the “In-place Mass” environment in a project file? From my (limited) dynamo experience, dynamo has a problem with accessing geometry created in the massing environment in project files.

    • @RVBoost
      @RVBoost  Před 2 lety

      This should work in both the massing and project environment. The important thing is you need to start Dynamo in the environment you want to use. For example, if you want to use it in-place in the RVT file, start Dynamo in the model. If you want to do it in the family, start it with the RFA file active. I however would do this kind of work in the family, as in-place components are usually more complicated.

    Great video. I followed your tutorial for a tall, twisting tower. The script works great for one ellipse shape. But as soon as I try to run to script with a second ellipse, the panels don't cut properly. Any suggestions? I'm sure it's giving me problems simply because it isn't a straight vertical wall, but surely there should be a way to get it to work.

    • @RVBoost
      @RVBoost  Před 3 lety

      It's more difficult in your case because each panel will check its distances to all ellipses and take the lowest value, which will in turn determine its opening ratio. One solution is to draw more and smaller ellipses instead of 2 or 3 big ones. This way, you can better control these distances.

      @@ronnykazadi559 Yeah that's a bit strange. I just double checked the Dynamo script and it still worked fine. There's also no "false" in the Python node. How about downloading it again from the website?

    Can I use the downloaded dynamo file and only change the elements??

      Hi, what elements do you want to change?

      I mean, use the ellipses I drew

      Yes. They should work if you drew them similarly to how I did in the tutorial 👍

      You need to open the downloaded script in Dynamo, open its Python node, and copy only what's in there to the Python node in your own script.

    • @tommythedon9914
      @tommythedon9914 Před rokem

      @@RVBoost I did do that. Is there any specific way I need to open the script? The paid downloaded script comes as a DYN file? Under “Dynamo-Facade with multiple attractor shapes”

    • @RVBoost
      @RVBoost  Před rokem

      Yes, you need to open the script specifically in Dynamo because it's a DYN file.
