  • Watch me tear this turntable completely apart, restore it both physically and mechanically and bring it back to great cosmetic and working condition.

    I picked up one of these a few months ago and the speed has changed a few times so good to see this restoration and what I may need to do. Cheers!

    Rather than paying me cash for the Miracord service, my client paid me with turntables. 503-1, PL-514, JVC Q-LF4. Overall, I should make a lot more after those are sold off. This video was a great refresher on this unit and in my opinion one of you better videos. 👏

    Thanks for this. Gave me the confidence to lube the motor and spindle on my 503 2. Adjusted the speed which on that model can be done without even removing the platter. Its a lovely deck and the only problem is the auto stop / lift comes in too late. I don't want to fiddle with the adjustment in case I mess it up but it plays fine. Thanks for the vids.

    Thanks. I have a CS-450 from the early 90s that needs regreasing. It has a one-piece wood plinth, but the mechanical parts are pretty much the same.

    Please do the dust cover restoration video, I have a few that need it. And I am always surprised at how dirty the cables are when I clean them. Great job on this restoration.

    As I watch this, my Dual is in for service due to an inconsistent left channel (I would have had you do it, if I was just a little bit closer). Probably the RCA cables. Congrats on passing 1K.

    Great video! It motivated me to get my 503-1 out of storage and back up and running. I am ready to reassemble it and am curious what type of oil you use to lubricate the motor? I have read online that one option is sewing machine oil but some have mentioned that it isn't a great choice because it is paraffin based and will become gummy over time. Another recommendation is 3-in1 oil for motors. Thoughts?

    • @TurntableGuy
      @TurntableGuy  Před 7 měsíci

      3 in 1 for electric motors is excellent.

      @@TurntableGuy Thank you. One more question - and probably not the last! I now see that the shielding on the RCA plugs is beginning to disintegrate. They worked OK in my pre-test trial. Should I go ahead and replace the wires or try a set of those solderless plugs?

  • @jrockthecasbah
    @jrockthecasbah Před 24 dny

    Hi, when replacing the rca cables can you just use regular rca (red,black) ones or do they have to be something else that is “shielded” like an av cable? Thanks for the channel btw.

    Hey, if I don’t have Deoxit, could I use isopropyl alcohol or an alternative to clean the potentiometers?

    • @TurntableGuy
      @TurntableGuy  Před 2 lety +1

      Alcohol is safe, but don't use WD40. I'd buy a can of contact cleaner for the best results.

    Hi Turntable Guy, my motor has a burning smell to it after it turns on for about a minute or so. Would I need a new motor or is it lack of oil?

    • @TurntableGuy

      What has started squeaking? The motor? If so, put a drop of oil under the spindle on the shaft that leads to the motor bearing. Did you watch the video?

I don't know where it goes? it fell during disassembly with the transparent plastic support that you forgot during reassembly. thank you if you have the solution....gerard FRANCE

    Hello to Turntable Guy I watch a lot of your videos iinever have any good coments to give you ,love how you can fix a lot of different TT's I don't have your smarts but I have been inspired by you I was able to restore a old BSR w/ ceramic cart just like my father had then I got a BSR 610 replaced magnetic cart and was able to fix the sled that cart went on then got a Dual 1225 which had a prob with tone arm working sometimes and then it would be fine was able to fix it with a new stuerpimple hope I spelled it right and a dual 1009sk which had no problems only a wooden base that was in bad shape I would like to know where in the hec did the word plinth come from when I was young and got a job in a record store which bought me to my first ever real Turntable everybody I knew called it the base or record base never ever heard that word till the TT's were popular again WHY !!!! I really don.t like that word it sounds kind of snooty not trying to put down the use but its like the newer generation of record lovers were trying to make it sound more like a fancier term I don't know I grew up with TT's and I learned that there was a better turntable s out there I even subscribed to stereo review and I never or don't remember ever seeing that word when they would review or have advertisements for new TT's ,I like seeing vids of turntable reviews and all these reviewers mention the that word now even if it is a cheap TT,I just want to know where was I if that word was out there in the 70's i never heard it and i wax really an audiophile at that time????? I gave up on record changers and hadto have the best TT on what I could afford ,the best reciever and speakers and equalizers but that word I NEVER HEARD IT till now not putting down the term but like to know how did this word came to be ??????unless I am an Idiot that could be but L need to know but as Always I will keep watching your vids like I said I try tro watch every repair you have I find it Fascinating!!!! thank you JRo

      Put a drop or two on the motor spindle right underneath the pulley. Gravity will pull it down into the motor bearing.
