Knew Randy from times he came and rode in Ca. and when I had been to La. He was such a personable guy, and so funny! What a character. He spoke of Personal Ensign like a long lost love. Randy was a presence on the tracks too. Larger than life. He will never be forgotten. Legendary is what he was in life, and sadly is, now that he is gone. God speed ol' friend.

I thank god for allowing Randy and I to cross paths. I am from Cajun country and grew up watching Randy ride at Evangeline Downs. He seemed larger than life. Years later I became a farrier on the racetrack. After Randy retired he was a regular at Evangeline Training Center where we visited together a lot. He spoke of his riding career that was more impressive each time you heard it knowing he wasn’t bragging but stating facts. You could see in his eyes the determination was still there just his body wasn’t young anymore. I got to be friends with his son who was a equine dentist and his brother Edward who also was a farrier. I will never forget Randy. May god bless his soul. RIP Randy🙏

R.I.P. Randy Paul Romero (December 27, 1957 - August 29, 2019) One of the most courageous jockeys of all time. He was inducted to the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2010 and to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2005, having won 4,265 races and earned U.S.$ 75 million in purses in a 26 years career. I think Personal Ensing was the best thouroughbred horse he ever rode. God bless him! My condolences to his family and friends from Venezuela.

Saw Randy Paul ride at Louisiana Downs and Oaklawn. The best rider these two eyes have ever seen in person. He even won on a horse my pops owned back in '84 at Shreveport, (LaDowns). I cherish that picture. RIP R.P.

What a great Rider... I was coming back from the doctor's office after getting my right arm's cast off with a stick shift truck... I was having trouble because my arm wasn't strong enough to shift and I couldn't get into the racetrack because of all the ambulances & commotion at Oaklawn when Randy burned up in the hot box!!

I want to high school with Randy R Romero 1988-1989 in NYS Garden City elementary School. Right after Randy P Romero won the cup. When he talked about always broken bones I told him I also had. Only five or 10 or 12 bone 🦴 s. When I asked him which broken bones hurt. Anything with your ribs or torso. When I asked him what hurt the most overall he fire.
Stepped on by horses catapulted into air 30 feet. Dragged. Fire hurts most. The thank you Randy and FD.

Damn...my dad got lit up on fire at a gas station in New Iberia across from Senior high school about 21years ago. He said after his fire kills the nerves you don't feel anything. But the healing process in the burn unit was hell when they start scrubbing the skin off everyday!

Probably those words were the last ones Randy Romero told to the media last June when he was in hospice care in Lafayette, LA suffering from a cancer. And without a doubt, he was an extraordinary athlete and a very courageous man! Now he's in a place where there is no pain or suffering. God bless him! My condolences to his family and friends from Venezuela.
