I'd have to add one caveat to that; "for her genre". There are female vocalists in other genres that are similarly powerful but so different that it is hard to compare. Like, say, operatic singers. And being more of a metalhead myself, I can't help but think of someone like Floor Jansen, the singer of Nightwish. I wouldn't say she is better than Ann (particularly since this isn't a competition), but definetly her equal in terms of power and range.
Ann is Great at what she does. Carrie is also Great at what she does. These are really Very talented ladies in different styles of music. I personally have a lot of Respect for each of them Equally. They both worked there asses off to get where they are. So my hats off to them. And their Bands & Families. God Bless you all.

I saw her walk away from the mic in a 2000 seat venue when they did some unplugged type of tour back in the late 90's maybe early 2000's, i cant remeber. Lots of free shows for me. She walked away and it was nuts how loud she still was. i was in the balcony with a guy from the pumpkins and one other guy from another band. we were all pretty stunned.

One of my all-time favorite covers is Carrie doing "Paradise City" as an encore. She hangs with Axl too... I grew up on Rock and Roll (met Ann and Nancy when Nancy and I were still teenagers) but Carrie is the real deal.
I am a male (non-drinking) karaoke singer. Recently I sang this as part of a Battle of The Sexes theme because participants had to pick a song by an artist of the opposite gender. I will tell you that as a male vocalist this is a hard song to sing. I dont know how I did it but I did it. That said not anyone would be able to pull this song off. Carrie managed to but she is no Ann Wilson. Carrie is a country singer so this was a challenge for her to cross over into the pop/rock genre. Something to also bear in mind is that this performance of the song was slower than the studio recording. That said Carrie stepped out of her comfort zone and pull this off

Ann Wilson has been singing professionally for almost 45 years! Heart hit the big time when I was in high school in the mid 70s. I saw them at a local community college then. I've seen almost every major rock artist from the late 60s to the late 70s and later and Heart was easily among the top 4 or 5. The band was extremely tight without the slightest bit of sloppiness and all the musicians were very accomplished. Ann's singing was simply awe inspiring. She had a very wide vocal range, perfect control of every nuance and a perfect sense of timing and phrasing. Her range has diminished somewhat. That's only natural but not to the extent that you see with male vocalists. She's been blessed that way. She has certainly not lost any of her control. I've always considered her vocal and musical abilities on par with the likes of Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin and even Judy Garland. Of course each of these singers has a unique singing style but their singing abilities tower above all others in the last century or so.
I was memorized by both of them. I was not hearing a competition, I was hearing angelic voices of the sweetest tastes! Both gorgeous and top notch vocalist.
I still get goosebumps when I hear Carrie singing that song. If there's only one song I remember of all the seasons of American Idol I've seen is Alone by Carrie Underwood.
I love how Carrie, despite being on stage with Heart, is in awe of Ann and several times during the song, claps while Ann is singing, as if she's her biggest fan with a front row seat.
I'm a rock guy, what an outstanding performance. The respect Carrie shows for Ann is noticeable at 2:22 when she looks at Ann and smiles, knowing how hard it is to nail what is coming at 2:33, and Ann nails it. I see it as win/win/win. A win for Ann, showing her talent to country fans and to a younger generation, a win for Carrie, showing her talent to rock fans and an older generation, a win for fans of either genre. Agreed. Her voice may not have fully matured, like many things that get better with use, just as with all the muscles in our bodies. If the point is competition, I am not interested in either the performance, or the comparisons. Carrie will get better with Time, Ann needs to be careful not to overuse hers, or she will end up sounding like the druggy singer from the 60s that OD'd and took what little ability she had left in her voice to her grave.

Carrie does it well and with great respect towards Ann. This is how great music survives from one generation to another: it is shared lovingly between artists.
No comparison between these two great artists. For Carrie Underwood she has some good range to hold her own. Ann in her 60's can still belt out a song with great quality.
I do appreciate Carries voice and it freshens up a timeless classic but then again there is nothing like the creators. It was perfection in the beginning and still is today when Nancy backs up Ann on vocals. When these two amazing women sing together the earth stands still for me until the song is over. In that moment it is only them and I and for a short time there is perfect peace and harmony in my world.
I saw Heart in the late 70's or there about and I always remembered how good they sounded live. Several groups that day, but they sounded the best overall. Although, Foreigner was on that show as well and their sound was almost as good, and, they had Lou Gramm. He just killed it. I was stunned. Both groups would have been worth the price of admission alone, but both of them on one show? One of those concerts you never forget.
My first concert was a double ticket Heart and Pablo Cruise. Pablo Cruise? Who the fuck is that? Heart in an outdoor theater in Northern Michigan Ann and Nancy could sing a corpse back to life!
Years ago, this was the song I listened to and thought of a woman I liked. We worked together, but hadn't gone out yet. I listen to this and think back to that time. Next month we will be married for 29 years. 😊 Listening to this is emotional for me. At the 2:20 mark, when Carrie finishes her first part, Ann comes back and the power in her voice brings me to tears. She is just the most incredible female rock singer ever, even now.

I do appreciate Carries voice and it freshens up a timeless classic but then again there is nothing like the creators. It was perfection in the beginning and still is today when Nancy backs up Ann on vocals. When these two amazing women sing together the earth stands still for me until the song is over. In that moment it is only them and I and for a short time there is perfect peace and harmony in my world.
I saw Heart in the late 70's or there about and I always remembered how good they sounded live. Several groups that day, but they sounded the best overall. Although, Foreigner was on that show as well and their sound was almost as good, and, they had Lou Gramm. He just killed it. I was stunned. Both groups would have been worth the price of admission alone, but both of them on one show? One of those concerts you never forget.

Listening to this is emotional for me. At the 2:20 mark, when Carrie finishes her first part, Ann comes back and the power in her voice brings me to tears. She is just the most incredible female rock singer ever, even now.

I have seen them both live and they are 2 of the world's great vocalists. If you like Ann Wilson, I recommend seeing her sing Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors, it is without a doubt one her best performances.
