R.I.P. Mr. Douglas. He made his 103 years on Earth great for generations and for generations to come.
Well said! I agree. Actors of today come nowhere near as good of a person Kirk Douglas was.
I'm 52 and grew up watching all the greats. How can you not love the talent of these type of actors and actresses
I agree a true legend
Yea but one of the last of the golden years of Hollywood actors . After Sydney potier that chapter would be closed
They don't make them like Kirk Douglas anymore
Absolute Legend
He was 75 years old in this, he looks and sounds suprisingly young
My 1st thought..and had just survived a helicopter crash
@P' ovo je da popizdiš Пичкице никад не попизде!Тако и ти!
Остаћеш недоношче до "краја"....
He did manage to live another 27 years after this was recorded.
After he had his stroke his speech and voice was never the same again, bless his heart, but he never gave up and kept up with his facial exercises and physical therapy, he was strong to the finish.
Five years after this happened, Kirk Douglas had a debilitating stroke in which he incredibly survived! Now, 24 years later, KD is in Heaven as we speak! May he rest in peace!
Kirk Douglas, such a class act...a fighter, a lover, a father, an actor, a human rights activist - a man who could not be intimidated, with out fear. He lived to be over a 100 years of age. The changes he must have seen, the life he lived. RIP Kirk, God speed.
RIP Kirk Douglas 1916-2020
And RIP Sean Connery
He's with his buddies now, Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis.
RIP Kirk/Issur
RIP to all legends in this clip who passed away since 1992.
Oi veh !
I was amazed at seeing all those legends you honoured in your comment. Almost all the greatest actors were present there. Thank you !
R.I.P Kirk Douglas 1916-2020!
We will miss you forever.
You were one of the greatest actors all time and you will be never forgotten. With Best Regards from a very big fan from Austria!
Great speech, great actor, great man,a true legend, and legends never die, they live on in their movies and in memories and hearts of many.So does Kirk, had gone but will never be forgotten.May he rest in peace.
IM JUST SAYING IT BREAKS MY HEART TO SEE THIS MAN COME TO THE CONCLUSIONS WHEN EVER HE SPEAKS BECAUSE ITS JUST SO HARD TO SEE HIM WALK AWAY I DONT WANT HIM TO LEAVE.
The last of the Legends, a dear and wonderful man, Kirk Douglas. One of my favorite actors alongside Jimmy Stewart and Gregory Peck and John Wayne. His passing will darken the sky for the loss of such a talent. I will always love the Old School actors best.
He’ be 103 in December 👍👍
Kirk is still alive, at 102, didn't you know.
Ahem. Olivia de Havilland would like a word with you.
@@r.v.3540 Olivia is into her 104th year.
RIP Kirk,what a Great speech,real class!
I met Kirk and Anne when their son, Eric, and I were in rehab together in 1992. Lovely people, they are. I spent a good amount of time with Kirk, and wondered "What can I say that could possibly interest this man?". No problem. He put me right at ease, and even asked for hugs at times.
Sad that Erik did not make it in the end. Salute for you still being around Sir and kicking the habbit.
103 years old and still alive! g'd bless kirk douglas! :)
Kirk honored is talent with full throttle commitment. Elia Kazan said he was the most intelligent actor he worked with. This shows in all his emotionally intense performances...
This has just made its way into my top ten! Pure class
Gah-lee, so much class! Stars today need to watch this 1000 times just to wake the hell up.
AMEN !!!!!
Charles Jones - today’s actors could learn some lessons, especially stay out of spewing your political stance, we couldn’t care less, ur only here to entertain us with movies!!!!
It wouldn't matter,they just don't have it.
The one and only Spartacus Rip kirk douglas you'll be remembered for generations to come ❤
Thank goodness that Kirk Douglas was presented with the AFI life achievement award in 1991, before suffering the stroke that impaired his ability to speak. He also looked well here. He is now 97 and still relatively active. Douglas has made a group a films that will stand the test of time: Spartacus and Paths Of Glory, both directed by Stanley Kubrick; Lust For Life, an excellent biographical film regarding the life of Vincent Van Gogh, directed by Vincente Minnelli, and Lonely Are The Brave and Seven Days In May, during the early 60s.
Most of the greats were still alive when this was filmed -a who's who as well
as other actors who were at their peak at the time. Incredible actor. Now I feel old
Just turned 101 years old on December 9th. Happy Birthday Kirk.
Just turned 102 in December, 2018.

He had a good blood boy

Kirk's outlived all of his Hollywood contemporaries...
100 years old and still going strong!! Epic actor, producer & director! And artist!
long live sir kirk!!! here's to another 100 years!! :)
A truly great man. There are no actors these days who can come close to matching the talent and success of actors Like Douglas, and the great actors of his time. I miss those days. Long gone and never to be repeated. But at least I was alive to enjoy those movies when they were being produced and in theaters and TV. Fantastic art form with legendary actors.
What a marvelous actor. Old actors like that have a certain charm. They had a charisma they don't have now. Lonely are the brave is one of my favorite kirk douglas films. A true genuine actor.
Very moving! I am a 72 year old Dutchman, saluting the memory of the one and only Kirk Douglas.
Kirk stands tall in everybodys eyes after that speech, full of compassion, caring about others first, before himself, I salute you Sir.
Just saw Michael Douglas' 2009 AFI video accepting his lifetime achievement award, where his dad Kirk was the one who introduced him. It's good to see what Kirk looked like in 1991 would be strikingly similar to what his son Michael would look like almost 2 decades later.
Rest in peace, Mr. Kirk Douglas, and thank you.
Kirk Douglas was such a great actor, entertainer and human being.
A Wonderful man, actor, gentleman class act !!!!!
He's 103 years old now......amazing!!!
Splendid actor
He is still alive at 101? Wow, his easy going ways have been good to him.
He was a good man🌹
My dad is named after this dude... this boss of a man on the screen. My dad was born in the early 60s, and is 56 now, this man is 102 and still sharp as a tack despite a crash and a stroke. God Bless him.
A sincere man who knew what loving his wife meant!
@SHICOFF1 Yes she will turn 101 soon her birth name Hannelore Marx she was born in Hannover Germany she moved with her family to Belgien at very young age
@SHICOFF1 She is Kirk's second wife but Michael was from Kirk's wife Nr 1
@SHICOFF1 No problem you are very welcome
@SHICOFF1 Poor Michael has lost both parents within 5 years! Kirk now and his real mother (Kirk's first wife) in 2015
Tell that to Natalie wood
Michael looks and sounds more and more as he ages! Happy 103 birthday on Dec. 9 Kirk!!!

He looks a lot like Michael here!
christytina81 Other way around, since Michael is younger.
Like father, like son! Kirk and Michael are both living legends!
amazing actor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actor Legend
Those were the days when the actor got up and made a good speech, not some political statement. The actors of today don’t even compare to Kirk Douglas or dozens of others that have long since passed. I don’t even watch acting award shows, or music award shows, any longer. It’s not worth my time to listen to a bunch of idiots get up and make political statements, when they should just say “thank you,” and thank all those that helped make them successful in what they do: act or sing. It’s really sad how low it has gotten. The Academy and other organizers of these events should prohibit any form of political comments, PERIOD! If they do make one, they should cut their mic off, and ask them to leave the stage. And if that actor or singer receives another award in the future, they should just mention it on stage and mail that actor or singer the award, rather than allowing them back up on the stage to receive it. That’s how it should be handled.
RIP, Kirk! You will be missed.
trumpass
hola....l agree with you...best regards
Get over it!
So you're calling Joaquin Phoenix's Best Actor Oscar speech a joke?? Not offended, just curious.
@@adityaravishankar7057 As I said above, I no longer watch these shows. There are exceptions to what I say, above. Clint Eastwood is one of them. Phoenix may have made a very good speech and left politics out of it.
As someone who is an admirer of Van Gogh, I appreciate how he notes he never knew success in his lifetime. It’s easy to see him for what he is now, but very few truly understand how sad his life really was
Kirk you were special. You will always live in our hearts for ever. May you Rest in Peace!
Loved you Kirk, rip ❤️
What a great guy he is. When I was a kid I tried pressing my chin to create a dimple like what Kirk has as I wanted to be like him when I grew up! I did not succeed ! I would recommend is book Climbing the Mountain where he uses the words here in his book from concentration camp survivor Victor Frankle about success. A lovely man .
No one like this anymore 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Wow perhaps the greatest living star of tbe golden age of hollywood who never saw fit to honour him with an acting oscar, graciously accepts a lifetime award without bitterness and with dignity. He has ironically outlived all his contemporaries and still loves the industry that gave him so much in stark contrast to the likes of Mitchum and Brando among other's who treated the industry with disdain.
Nice comments by Mr. Kirk Douglas, a great actor that establishes some good points about making films and what they should do for our society...many of those in Hollywood; i.e. film makers, producers and such should "take a listen" and follow what he is saying, make films that help make the World a better place as well as present a good positive message.
Wonderful person great man. God bless you Sir. Douglas and family 😇😊
This is what I call a great speech ....
His life worked, another role model, thanks.
RIP to one glorious actor!
Icon.
He passed it to his sons. Simple as that.
What a beautiful man... in ..so many ways..! Iconic..
Only when kirk is dead u really realize how big he is in personality an humour wat a actor top notch. His real power was his acting pure class...

Michael Douglas is so much like his father !

Probably the first and last time you’ll ever hear a Mario Nascimbene theme during an awards ceremony, and I’m glad it accompanied Kirk Douglas.
Just beautiful
What a CLASS act.
The theme from The Long Ships is perfect.
GOD BLESS YOU SIR YOUR THE GREATEST RIP
A real star and most importantly a man
*applause* well deserved!
Now there is a movie star!
Great Speech, very powerful
He is now 102 and can barely speak. It's crazy what age does to you, what an icon. Truly an icon
Que pedazo de actor!!! Dominaba todos los géneros cinematográficos. DEP.
They give John Wayne an Oscar but not Kirk Douglas.
thanks tony...its feat for anyone to get in the 90s
He's as old in this Video as his son is now.
you have to love that guy.
You are with gd Mr Douglas . We miss you greatly
Back when actor's had respect for each other
real intelligence, self educated, through life and film, a real mans man.
J'aime beaucoup Kirk Douglas. Il est un grand acteur et quelqu'un qui a beaucoup d'humanité.
When you look around the room at this AFI event and see all the, surviving, mega-stars of Hollywood that were still with us in 1991, you realise that, 'love him or loathe him, Kirk Douglas commanded and generously got praise from some of the biggest stars ever to stand in front (and behind) of a camera.
The thing I liked about Kirk was that he never hid the fact that he was difficult to work with; such was the passion and intensity he gave to every facet of filmmaking.
Like so many other big names in that room, then, Kirk too has gone yet his body of work will be immortal. Just for his work with Stanley Kubrick on 'Paths of Glory' he should be remembered forever.
If ever any actor deserved an Oscar it was Kirk for his role of a French officer in that near perfect film. It was fit and proper that he did, eventually, get an honorary statue.
RIP Mr Douglas. BH
He is fascinating!!!
My favorite performance is of him as Spur in Man From Snowy River. Funny as hell. "Just like a woman, always has to have the last word"
