Yep, I remember back then that the Alfa 156 JTD sportwagon was considered to be one of the sportiest diesel cars and I really wanted one because it also looked amazing, but I just could not get over the legendary Alfa unreliability.
freibier the 210 version of It is really well made, here in Italy it is use by Police and their cars have more than 300.000 km, 130 and 180 HP are quite shitty in the other hand

My dad used to have an Alfa Brera 2.4JTDM 210bhp and it was mapped and had a dpf delete to 260bhp!

The 2.5 TDI B5252T used in the 850 TDI and the V70 TDI is an awesome engine, at 140 horsepower. Awesome Audi derived engine
Ford 3.2 I5 Puma was available from 2007 to 2010 in transit product range with 200 PS. Awesome engine.

The Td5 at 5:00 really doesn't sound good. It sounds actually broken. I have heard a lot of Td5s in my life, including the one I own, and that is not how a Td5 should sound.

My friend had a td5 and it blew a hole in the side of the engine block while going uphill one day, it had low km's... Great 4WD tho but I never had any trust with Land Rover reliability and that just solidified it for me

The 5 cylinder engine in the Touareg/T5 and the older one in the Audi 100/Volvo/T4 are completely different. The older is cast iron and belt driven, the newer is aluminium and gear driven.
And most importantly it Is not a PD injection, it has separate injection pump :/ (Audi c4-volvo 850/V70 etc..)
Lukáš Ch. Yes, only the Touareg/T5 engine has PD injection. The older 2.5 however got a common rail injection in the Crafter.

Only First generation (115-150 bhp) of 2.5tdi was reliable. 2.5 tdi used in touareg featured a new head, unit injectors and it wasn't as good

Hehehe, proud owner of a "mildly modified" 2002 V70 D5 here, it cranks out 304 horses and 632 Nm and with that 3" Simons exhaust and custom downpipe it sounds like a f*cking tank that's on its way to the front lines. Plus, it's awesome to see the faces of those dudes in their sports cars who just got chopped by a diesel wagon.
3.2 Duratorq is a great engine. Gives the Ranger beautiful torque
My father has a 159 with the 2.4 JTD 210hp and it's a really good car, gorgeos, good sounding, i recommend for anyone :) pozdravujem z vychodu :D

The great Rover Td5. You may no be able to up life the cam on but you can still do some heavy tuning to make a beast of any engine.

FIAT's JTD and JTDm/Multijet engines made history, as they were the first to use a common rail direct injection system with multiple injections per cycle. All of them sound majestic to this day. They're also the reason why VW eventually switched their TDI line from pump injectors to common rail, it was to better compete
The D5 5-Cyl is not made anymore, stopped being a thing in 2016, Volvo still uses the branding.

It is still made for the Volvo V60 Cross Country D4 AWD, the D4 FWD is a VEA 2.0 though.
They just make shitty hybrids and dull 4 pot diesels now, lost the legacy of their 5 pot engines, kinda stupid they still badge them as such
they aren't so bad, 300hp out of a 4 pot and good fuel economy. Good for Sweden because fuel is not cheap, atm ONE liter of gas or diesel is 1.7 dollars, a gallon would be 6.30 dollars. I'd love for the americans to stop complaining about 2.5 dollars a gallon, that's cheap as fuck.
Alex i feel you. Good to see someone living with the same pain as me haha. And petrol is even worse, at its worst its 2 dollars per liter. And being a student with a pretty thirsty car thats a fucking nightmare. Cant wait for the hellish winter to be over so i can daily my motorcycle again.
My friend got an Audi 100 TDI as his first car. I also drived it already and i have to say, that this engine killed all my negatives about the diesel's ^^

I own the Volvo XC90 D5 Executive. It only has 180hp but the Torque kicks ass. It can even overtake a Mercedes coupé.

Hi. 2,5 TDI engine that was in the Audi 100 featured distributor-type injection pump. This system was used almost till the end. Only 1st generation VW Touareg had this engine with pump-nozzle injection.
so a 2008 T5 would have distributor type injection that is common rail?
@@andrewdiprose As far as I know it should have pump-nozzle direct injection. If there is any source claiming otherwise, I would be happy to see it.
4:57 being a mechanic and also being very familiar of 5 cylinder engines, I can say that I'm pretty sure this engine is misfiring. I missed 2 engines in this video: the VW 2.5 petrol and the Fiat/Lancia 2.0 and 2.4 petrol, both naturally aspirated and turbocharged, the latter ones being my all time favorites.
The video is about diesel engines. And you don't haft to be a mechanic to know that engine you mentioned sounds fucked

Before 2.5 TDI, VAG also used 2.4D 5cyl in T4 transporters and one of the Audi 100 models
The 2.0 was a 5 cylinder, the 2.4 a 6 in-line cylinder, also mounted on 200 Series Volvos.

The information about the VW TDi is WRONG. The first engine and the more recent one are completely different!
There's an i5 ('puma'??) Turbo diesel engine, (at least, in Australia / South Africa, Latin America, etc), w/ iron block + aluminium head. The Aussies have been working hard & accurately, obtaining over 200 bhp + good torque from those, specially w/ upgraded Intercooler + specially tuned software. Those engines were (probably) produced in Struandale plant / South Africa. As far as I read, it's being replaced w/ a new V6 / 3.0 liter Turbo diesel, (graphite iron - nodular iron block), output figures about 186 Kw / 600 Nmt torque. So many thanks VR for your fantastic videos!!..

As advertised they all sound amazing - even the much maligned Rover Td5.
Fun fact about the Volvo 2.0 5-cylinders: if you bought a 2.0 D3 and want a boost to D5, don’t change cars immediately.
A 2.0 D3 can, without much trouble, be chip-tuned to performance matching that of the 2.4 D5 engines.
Volvo has a V40 5 cyl 2.5 with 254hp... that's a beast 😱
I drive a w203 270CDI C class and I can assure you that the engine sounds amazing and pulls like a goddam monster as soon as the variable geometry turbo starts making serious boost ( around 3k RPM), the chassis handles surprisingly well in the twisties (i swaped the stock suspension for a "sportier" one from the CLK) and the comfort is crazy good as well... The only downside is the "slow" and kinda boring (although very robust) automatic gearbox :(
I have a ml with the same engine and transmition and it is true when you use the manual mode on the gearbox it takes one second to downshift it is very slow

3.2 Ford unit is also, very rarely, used in the UK Ford Transit 200
My sad owns a 2.5 tdi in the facelifted T4 and its one of the best engines no problems with it at all only the fly wheel musted be changed cause it had lots of miles on it
I must correct you on the Scania DC9: It actually was a 6 cylinder, when it was euro 3 - i think it was originally called a Scania dsc9 or something like it. It first became a 5-pot, when the Omnilink was facelifted and they became euro 4. The most powerful euro 6 version has 360 hp and 1700 nm :-)

our previous c w203 had the om612 and it had c30 injectors, cp3 pump, 320cdi turbo and intercooler and it made 250hp/700nm to the tires

Those 3.2L Ford diesels have plenty of grunt, but they eat auto transmissions. The old man's Mazda BT50 had a new transmission put in at 99,000km under warranty. Its now at 150,000km and its starting to head down the same road as the old transmission

Amazing as always, man! Lot's of engines I didn't know of. However, I think you might have gotten it wrong with the Toyota engine. Unless I am wrong (I might), and the engine was available as an alternative, the Toyota Coaster only had 4 and 6 cylinder engines.
I don't even think the 1HZ was even available in the Coaster either. Just the Hino N04C and the 1HD series

Funny there is no OM605 which is superior to old 2 valve crap featured twice in this video. Also you got 2.5TDI horribly wrong, Audi100/A6,,VW T4, Volvo use this engine with rotary VE pump and cast iron block while T5/Touareg uses all alloy engine with PD technology not much common between these except it burns diesel and has 5 cylinders.
The next video, can it be about the best 6 cylinder diesel engines. Please put the volkswagen d24? Or d24 tic (it has turbo)
