I don't know if I would have used fake carbon fiber to cover (what looks like) high quality leather in a $60k car but I give you serious props for making a go of it and the end results DO look good. Also I give you credit for being brave enough to post a video of your trial and error because that DOES help others. Ignore the haters and negative comments.

Tons of haters telling him that's not the right way but nobody is offering advice or how to. I give you credit for trying. The top part looks actually decent. I'm wondering if it's harmful to the leather though.

It's not. But you better apply heat again before peeling vinyl off. And then clean it with alcohol.

Bro fuck what anyone said negative, you did a decent job. We all had to start somewhere. I've never done a steering wheel, but try pre cutting the piece in a happy face smile, that way it will wrap with more contour to the wheel. Also if you have the time, take the steering wheel off, so you can really work with the heat gun.

Go on daring , no harm, For those who fear DIY goes wrong, for steering wheel at least, you can always put a ready made cover of your choice any way at any time.....So dare.....you will learn eventually how not to do and then finally HOW TO do it. Nice video bro. I learnt many things along with you.... THANKS

May I point out that the steering wheel comes off in literally 5mins or less? It is a single 'bolt' and marked for realignment. The airbag comes off with two spring clips and an electrical connector, (just don't turn the car on when disconnecting or when the airbag disconnected). It is super simple and will give you A LOT more access to all sides and angles if you are going to retry this. Regards.

Wrapping a steering wheel with vinyl is not a good idea in the first place. Most of the time when your driving your going to have your hands on your steering wheel which will cause it to wear much faster then any other surface. However if you really did want to go ahead and do it. I would take off the steering wheel so that you can get to the places you were having difficulty. Also I would definitely use the heat gun and press hard when the vinyl comes and meets the stitching. Doing that will help it keep stretched and keep it locked in place. All this is from my personal experience in wrapping trim. I recently just refinished all of my trim in my Bmw e90 to Fox brown alcantara. I will be reupholstering my steering wheel today with leather as well

PleSe don't take this as a hating reply, but if you ask me this is something I personally think you would've had a professional do? Not all DIYers start out like you did but are often coached and "shown" how to do it the right way. This is one where you didn't even prep the material (cutting it to size) and IMHO because if that, you wasted valuable material which you could've use elsewhere.
