Shutting down their competitors
As a New Yorker who absolutely despises the NYPD and Mayor Adam's, this is the one positive thing I see so far. These smoke shop bodega's are EVERYWHERE, next to schools, usually called "Candy & Smoke" and "Cake & Puff", etc. And yes, I bought a pre-rolled once from one of them, yuck, its safer to see some stranger with flower than these stores.
Those legal dispensaries sell low quality goods for an exorbitant amount of money. Who tf is gonna pay $22 per gram of some shit that doesn't get them high??? Nobody that's who 😂

majority of weed smokers in NYers don't seem to like the legal option, so even if they closed all the illegal shops it would not make a whole lot of difference in terms of profit. you can't just threaten stoners to buy weed the way you want them to if it's inconvenient and unappealing to them. they are likelier to stop smoking weed all together, which might be for the best. The only way to boost the profit of legal shops in NY is to get better weed product, giving better deals, make it easier to get licenses so there are more legal locations, stop politicizing the process, and make the streets safer to boost tourism. You would figure a tourist would prefer a legal shop more than a local, it's just common sense; so... figure it out. It's like NY Democrats forget the basics of business and only know how to destroy things. By far and wide New York has easily been the most incompetent and incapable of handling the weed business of all the states that legalized.

If you require legal cannabis shops to display there license on store front windows it will help consumers and the nypd weed put fake stores from real ones and makes it safe for everyone in the community and for law enforcement.
