I told my wife I'm making her Salisbury steak for dinner this week. She was like "Ugh, like the frozen dinners?" I can't wait to blow her mind with this. Thank you!
Update us, bro
😂😂😂 I love that when someone mentions Salisbury steak, most everyone will think of the frozen dinners. I hope your dinner turns out good! I plan on making it this week too.
use tomato paste and mustard powder in place of the ketchup and mustard used here.
Update: Hoooooooh boy! This recipe is fantastic. My wife loved it. I loved it. My cat gazed at it like she would have loved it had we given her a piece. It's rich, delicious comfort food at its finest. I'll be making this again for sure!
@@barrysrandomness ohh that's encouraging! Did you make any modifications to it! I'm making it tonight!
"your whole life is going to work out, don't even worry about it" .... dude, i know this is a cooking show, but i really needed to hear that.
We all do…!
IKR!!
As children in the 1950's my father would let us pick out which Swanson TV dinners we wanted to eat while staying up late to watch "Gunsmoke" and "Have Gun will travel" on Saturday nights. We always picked fried chicken or salisbury steak. We didn't know it then, but those really were the good old days.
The fried chicken TV dinners were great.
Absolutely! Nothing today even comes close to how good things were back then.
This made me nostalgic for a time I wasn't even alive during
Born in 76, did the exact same when my mom worked 12 shifts as a nurse, watched the exact same shows!!!
@@robdobson5419
I agree as a kid of an Italian mom who was not a great cook… that fried chicken was the best!
Salisbury steak with a mushroom gravy and mash is one of my all-time comfort food meals, complete nostalgia. That frozen Hungry Man box brought back memories.
Hungry Man was better 20 years ago. I sooo missed their jumbo popcorn chicken
I had a Hungry Man ten years ago and the one in this show looks nothing like it. The sauce is just like jello in this video. Before it was a big gooey but it was clearly a thick sauce.
That’s because they were bought by banquet a decade ago. It’s trash now.
Markus going back for seconds on the HM taters had me damn near pissing myself! 😂😂😂😂
I love that you said “make OURS.” THAT’s how you treat your camera man. 👍🏼
Dude….. you just made home cooking WORTH it to bypass the frozen tv dinner all together!! That Salisbury steak is to die for! You just chose dinner tonight 👍🏼
This was my first time NOT eating it from a frozen box, Scottish parents so they didn’t cook this. Thank you we loved it, will become a regular
don't know how much you read your comments, but I used this video yesterday to cook a birthday lunch requested by a 12 yr old. I made a few minor changes, but she helped me cook it for ourselves and 8 other adults. we got the best compliments of anything I have cooked for the group. It was a wonderful time exploring her interest of cooking and tasted amazing. Thank you for posting this and for all of your inspiring videos! God bless!!
I just made this for Sunday lunch and it blew us away. Oh my gosh, the mushroom gravy was to DIE for. Every last bite was craveable, and we both wanted more. Hands down your best recipe yet. I’ll be making this for friends and family from this day forward. As a side note, I did order a jar of marmite and it made such a big difference in the flavor of the gravy. Chef’s kiss! ❤❤❤
LONG LIVE THE MIGHTY SALISBURY STEAK!!
Was that supposed to be "Long live" ?
Is chopped steak and Salisbury steak the same dish? We have a chopped steak at my restaurant and it seems the same to me.
@@Mysasser1 It’s the same thing!
Love all your content. Random video idea !! Your camera man vs camera man Manny from Nick's show in a camera man cook off with you and Nick as a blind taste judge.
Can you please try making moroccan food? You won't regret it I promise !
As much as I love cooking from scratch, every so often busting out a frozen Salisbury steak family pack just hits some great levels of nostalgia.
I've also done them quick and easy with minced meat and canned french onion soup.
That mix that was added to the ground beef is a Panade. Keeps the beef from becoming a roof shingle. Great vid!
Back in my day, we had roof shingles every Saturday for dinner and we thanked our parents for this shingles! We even ate the leftover roofing nails for Sunday snacks!
@@jasonworingen8431 Same here, mom wasn’t much of a cook. Never complained, I knew kids that lived off hot dogs and baloney.
Growing up family didn't really prepare a lot of American dishes. However where I could get it, when I could get it, from the first time I had it, Salisbury steak has been a favorite and is tied to so many great memories.
The sauce you made with the Salisbury steak is almost exactly what I did for a crockpot Yankee roast beef I made. My roommate is very allergic to wheat flour, so I had to figure out how to do a gluten free brown gravy using rice flour. I normally use 2 pkgs onion mushroom soup mix & 2 cans cream of mushroom soup, but they both have flour in them. So I did a brown gravy with beef broth, used fresh mushrooms & onions, rice flour, & Worcestershire sauce, heavy cream & pepper. Lol, because I was using a powdered beef bouillon for the broth, it was salty enough. It was the best pot roast I've ever made!!
Always love the vibes from his longer cooking vids, great way to chill out after a long shift at work
dude, your rosemary salt is the BEST!!! EVERYONE that tries it, is amazed!
What timing on this video! 6:32 I had a rough today today, found my long time feline-friend had passed on. Those nice words would have been easy to cut/omit, but they actually do help a little bit, and I appreciate it. I find cooking cathartic. And now I've got a outstanding looking new recipe to try, thanks Sonny!
sorry to hear man, cats are amazing creatures, hopefully you shared plenty of memories to share with it!
I'm so sorry to hear this. Losing a pet is awful.
You have my sympathies… loosing a kitty is,,just,,,no words.💔
My condolences. It's never easy losing apart of your family. I find cooking to be cathartic as well, so I'm glad you have something to help with the grief.
😿
I've loved and been making Salisbury steak for years. And I just learned about baking instead of frying them. It makes it so much easier. But I hadn't thought of adding some ketchup, till now. My simple gravy is 2 pkg brown gravy mix 1 can of cream of mushrooms soup and a can of beef broth all mixed together and pouted on top of the meat after flipping and bake for 25 more minutes. Works great everytime
Ive been watching you since you had hair. As a "professional" chef i love watching your clips/vids. They make me feel like a young line cook hating life but enjoying cooking. Keep it up big dawg. Mad love g ❤
I grew up on TV dinners and always thought that was the only way to get them. Definitely trying this recipe. Love the content !!
I made my wife home made, heart shaped, Salisbury steaks, for our anniversary (32+). She likes the frozen dinner ones, but prefers my home made version much better, when I take the time. Yes, life is going to work out. No one gets out alive. Have fun.
Nice. If you want to go with shortcut, instead of roasting greated onions you can use crushed roasted onions that you'd normally add on top of hot dog. Works everytime. Im also adding this to my burger, just grounded beef, crushed roasted onions, salt'n'pepper and butter in room temp. 👍
I made Salisbury Steak Meatballs last Sunday. They literally never go out of style. Your recipe is very similar to what I made, I'll make yours next.
My takeaway from this? The line “you’re whole life is going to work out don’t worry about it” much needed 🙏
Going to make this for my Hungry Man loving, seventy nine year old mother. Swanson turkey dinners, frozen pot pies and Salisbury steaks are her guilty pleasure comfort foods. I'll see if I can impress her with this recipe.
Your recipes always make me happy. 😁
When my father passed away late last year, he told me that he had always wanted to be a chef. That was something that nobody knew about him. I have since found peace through cooking at home for myself and my family. I appreciate your positivity in these videos, I feel it 💯
One of my favorites also but never tried to make it myself. That's gonna change. Thanks Sonny.
BEST quote @ 6:34 "I don't care, I just want you to get in the kitchen, forget about what happened today, and cook!"
Someday, when you least expect it ... revenge of the appliances. The fridge strikes back.
I want a good 5 minute video with the piano music and all the beating of the refrigerator scenes!
2:31 As a German, that's what most of us do; me included. Quality meat, no fears. In the end, we eat "Mett" which is literally raw pork.
Aside from that, this microwave pack reminded me of these very compact, frozen ground meat "steaks" which I demolished as a kid in various ways. Good, cheap and quick meal...
Geilet Mettbrötschen
Can’t not wait to make this one. I used to love Salisbury steak days at school when I was a kid.
Salisbury Steak - This was the name given to this dish during World War "I" along with Hot Dogs getting their name. Otherwise this was a "Hamburg Steak Dinner" and hot dogs were "Frankfurter Sausages." Very similar to what was tried with "Freedom Fries" during the Gulf War.
A note on tasting raw mince mixtures for seasoning before cooking them off. You can microwave a scant teaspoon of the mixture for 20-30 seconds and taste for seasoning. I recently learned this trick from my reading about East Asian dumpling making and it's come in handy a number of times.
That microwave trick sounds like an awesome way to avoid over/under seasoning. Thanks for sharing
FYI Night Hawk salisbury steak frozen slams! This hungry man looks gross.
I always cook off a little in the pan I sauteed the veggies in.
This is a reinvention of the Salisbury steak. The actual Salisbury steak as recommended by Dr. Salisbury is a bit different. Although he didn't call it such, he used it as an elimination diet considering it as a way to repair one's digestion. His version was cubed beef cleaned of all connective tissue and extraneous fats packed together just enough to stay together while cooked.
His book, "The Relation of Alimentation and Diseases" is a fascinating read.
Wrong. Hotdogs were invented in 1936 by Larry Hotdogs, when he accidentally dropped a bag of prize-winning pig buttholes into his Dick Shaper Machine.
I like that you give recipe instructions in a clear and entertaining way. Cheers!
Another enjoyable video! I usually watch your videos, especially your shorts, with my 8 and 10-year-old kids. They actually love it when you clown out together with Marcus! Your channel is much more then a cooking channel, in my humble opinion. It's pure entertainment!

"your whole life is gonna work out... don't even worry about it"
I came for the Salisbury steak recipe but I stayed for the vibrant meaningful philosophy.
My grandma just made Salisbury steak when I had home for Christmas! It was so good. Looks very similar to her recipe.
"I'll polish them off...but they don't taste good." Been there, brother. Been there.
We made this last weekend.. Holy.. Wow! It was so good, I remade the sauce to coat with some mashed potatoes the following night with our leftover steaks. So wonderful!
Just ordered Marmite from Amazon. Can't wait to use it in my cooking.
I've been making homemade Salisbury Steaks and mashed potatoes for years and I will never go back to the frozen dinner version again. One suggestion though, try adding a small side of a tart jam like cranberry or if you can get it, lingonberry. It helps cut through the richness of the meal.
Homemade cranberry sauce is easy and very, very good.
When you said "It'll all work out in the end, your whole life will work out, don't worry about it!" I knew you were my kind of chef
"We are getting into textures that don't exist in nature" made me laugh, you two are hilarious
Totally going to try this this week! Looks great!
Made this along with your meatloaf - OMG!!!!! LOVED BOTH!!!! Love from Texas
I have seen more and more people actually use what I have done for decades when it comes to gravy and this is a good thing. People can use wine in a gravy, but instead I use Caramelized Onions and Mustard powder. it creates the same flavor. I dont know why this works but it does,
The Downtown Abbey reveal music always makes me smile! LOL. please never get rid of it! Looking forward to creating this-- memories!
The Salisbury steak has a fascinating history dating back to Civil War. James Salisbury was a physician trying to help soldiers who were dealing with horrible malnutrition. He believed beef was incredibly nutritive, I happen to agree with him. I'm coming off of limited memory, it's worth a google.
I love how you Timeless Classics and give them a bit of flare or bring back the nostilga with what you do. 😊
Oh my gosh this takes me back! Growing up in the 70’s/80’s no one ever went out to dinner much but on the rare occasion our parents did get a babysitter it was Swanson frozen dinners and jiffy pop on the stove! Loved the salisbury steak ❤!
Been looking for a Salisbury steak recipe forever, something delicious that does not fall apart. The bake/broil method is genius! The seasoning is spot on, the [hamburger/meatloaf] steak tasted amazing. Thank you for this solution and it is a 5-star recipe in my Paprika recipe box.
"Not as good as Hungry Man" when tasting the green beans. Hilarious.
I love this and will be cooking it soon. I appreciate the idea of browning patties in oven, I'll have to give that a try. Cheers!
Thanks Sonny now I’m salivating uncontrollably and craving this heavy!
Your joyful disposition towards Salisbury Steak is so delightful.
I made this last night following the recipe except that I don't have Marmite in my pantry so I used a bit of Pickapeppa sauce. If you're not familiar with Pickapeppa from Jamaica you should give it a try.
I'm old enough to remember when Swanson invented the term "TV Dinner" back in 1954. My sisters and I considered TV dinners a real treat because we got them only when my parents went out for the evening, which was a rare occurrence. Salisbury Steak was my favorite. Your version is WAY better.
I have found about 1/2 cup of Dry Red Wine works excellently in it too to take it to the next level!
My wife has real nostalgia for salisbury steak. I made this with turkey meat, because doctor says so, and this was a hit.
You are the best youtube chef. I hope this stuff is really lucrative for you. Inspiration for me as a cook
Salisbury steak, yes! I haven't had one in years, this hits me right in the nostalgia. Also, I finally made the rosemary salt and now I'm an addict! Thanks to you, my sodium intake has probably gone up 30%!
My 12 year old son had the same microwave Salisbury steak a few nights ago. He too, gave it a 5/10. I figured we'd give this a try. It was a lot of extra steps for 'Ok'.
You're the only big CZcamsr that actually reads our comments and corrects your pronunciation of Worcestershire sauce 🥰 Could you do a video where you hug the fridge please instead of kicking it all the time?
Whatsthishersauce
I love Salisbury steak, my mom would make it form scratch at home. Bought a frozen one one time as a teenager, it was okay it just wasn’t what I expected. Been cooking my own ever since and never looked back to frozen.
I made this tonight and it was delicious! I will definitely make it again.
I just made this tonight, everybody loved it! Thanks dude, you can cook.
I used to buy the TV dinners many years back. I remember this dish, and it was delicious. The brownie was always a treat.
living in South Louisiana my grandmother used a milk chocolate roux for her Salisbury Steak's gravy and it was the bomb.
I always forget about this meal. I’m definitely going to try this recipe. Thanks for the nostalgic reminder. Great video as always.
Last time I had a Hungry Man Salibury Steak they came in aluminum trays. Yours looks soooo much better. As a kid I always ate the desert first.
Great choice. Love this
One thing I do to add a punch of flavor to homemade burgers and Salisbury steaks is add powdered beef bullion (not cubes) to the meat mixture. It adds more flavor and help retain the moisture.
Good idea.
when you add concentrated beef (essence) to your beef
lol cx
unironically good idea though 😭
use the maggi version. it finally made it to my local latino grocery stores after years of begging people to stock it and its magical
@@axdambient i love maggi sm omg 😭
I use beef base and sometimes a little demi glace.
Excellent recipe! Just made it. I should've used less broth and more water because the sauce turned out super rich. But quite delicious. Browning the mushrooms is a must!
I made this tonight. I replaced the green beans with roasted broccoli though. It was delicious. The wife and son approved it as well. Going into the rotation. Thanks
Sonny, I have to say if you're ever bored of cooking, you could be an Ad spokesman here and there ! I hate sponser obligations because they are usually really boring, but you are genuinely interested in the products! 😊
Never heard of that before. Looks good, gonna give it a try.
Made this for dinner tonight, and it is awesome. Everyone loved it.
Everything you make looks so good man
These classic meals don’t get enough hype, I worked in nursing homes and hospitals and man I love Salisbury steak lol
Can’t wait to try this recipe. My wife is in love with you and Sergeant Gilbert!
Brilliant idea. Nice work!
I love your food channel you explain why things need to be done and how it will change the flavor, other food channel just show you how to cook they dnt tell you why you are doing certain things.👍👍👍
Dude you are my favorite guy on CZcams. Seriously love and agree with everyone of your takes on these dishes ….. all this and martial arts. Rock on bro 0:42
I did salisbury steaks with my nephew and he liked them much more than I expected he would!!
Just made this. It came out awesome.
I sear mine, then cook the patties in the sauce in the oven. So good...
Yep, French Onion Gravy and Hamburger Patties. Can't go wrong.
I never not gave Salisbury steak a chance. That was my favorite banquet frozen meal. There's a special place in my heart for it
The way y'all described the hungry man stuff is spot on imo.
I'm still traumatized by being forced to eat those on rare occasions. That was over 45 years ago.
Yours looks & sounds amazing though 😋
Oh man, your version looks great! Nothing beats homemade!
The random refrigerator assault always cracks me up way more than it should
I just sent this to my husband, who does most of our cooking. He has some phobia or something about cooking onions or mushrooms that long. Maybe you'll change his mind 😊
I made these once just to see what they were like.. I was amazed at just how good they were 😋🤤
Holy smokes. I just made this for dinner tonight, and it was amazing!!!!! We're adding it to our recipe list!!
My twist on salisbury steak is chop steaks battered, fried, and then simmered low in pure condensed cream of mushroom soup for 25 mins.
Garnished with hotsauce and fried onions!
Dude, please put links in the description when you say you will! Thank you 🙏🙏 love your content!!
Dude this recipe is incredible. I followed it pretty well and all I can say is wow 😋
Great recipe! Added a tablespoon of tomato paste to sauce and a couple cloves of minced garlic, split between meat and sauce
Bruh Salisbury steak is str8 comfort food with sum mushroom gravy sautéed onions &garlic wit mash and haricots verts 🔥🔥
