HAMBURGER STEAKS & GRAVY:
- 2 Lbs Ground Beef
- 1 Pkg. Lipton Onion Soup
- 1/2 Cup Panko Bread Crumbs
- 1 Large Egg
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Garlic Powder
- 1 Tsp Dried Oregano
- 1 Tsp Black Pepper
- 1 to 2 Tsp Seasoned Salt or to Taste
- Olive Oil
- Parsley for Garnish (Optional)
GRAVY:
- 1/4 Cup All Purpose Flour
- 1/2 Tsp Browning Seasoning (Optional)
- 2 1/2 Cups Beef Broth
- 1 Cup Sliced Mushrooms (Optional)
- 2 Small to Medium Onions, Sliced
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1/2 Tsp Cajun Seasoning
- 1 Tsp Black Pepper
- 2 Tbsp Butter, Divided
- 1 to 2 Tbsp Ketchup ( I added this off camera, but it's totally optional!)
MASHED POTATOES:
- 6 Small Russet Potatoes, Peeled and Chopped
- 1 Cup Warmed Whole Milk, Divided
- 1/2 Stick of Butter, Melted
- 1/2 Cup Sour Cream
- 1 to 2 Tsp of Salt or to Taste
I made this last night from your recipe and it was sooooooo good!!! I had to get on here and let you know how much I appreciate you sharing. Also, my husband, who has had no smell or taste for over 2 years told me he could tell it was good because by some miracle, he got pleasure from eating it. He has not said that about anything I have cooked recently, so I think you should take that as a great compliment. I will definitely be making this again! This is THE BEST and most ACCURATE southern style hamburger steak recipe on CZcams. If your mama or grandma did it any other way, she did it wrong. My grandpa used to come home to meals like this after working all day in the field.

So I was really working hard at work and stumbled across your video….I made it the next day - well, today. Girl, this was so good. Like, the best thing I’ve eaten in a while! We have 6 kids and my 8 year old is so picky it’s ridiculous. Y’all, he ate this! I gave him 1/2 a burger and he wanted the other 1/2! Such a great recipe. And didn’t take too long either. Can’t wait to make it again soon. Also! I did everything as written, added 1T of ketchup at the end and I do think that brightened it up a bit. Yum yum yum!!

It's what you used, Hamburg, for all your dinners when you hardly had money for food, and big families!! Didn't have food stamps when I was growing up! My dad worked 2 jobs to take care of us! 50s and 60s!God bless those days though. My best years growing up with families! My Mom was an Excellent home style cook like you, but every once in a while she made something that I didn’t particularly care for. However my Dad told me that we didn’t ever want to get Mom mad or it would be a living hell. So one day Mom made something I wasn’t wild about and with the first bite I looked at Mom but when I looked at my Father I smiled and said it was delicious and yummy

Looks YUMMY😋 I made this last weekend, for my mashed potatoes I sautéed 2-3 cloves of garlic in 2 TBSP butter and added them to mashed potatoes along with 1-2 TBSP of best foods mayo (to make creamier) DELICIOUS!

My sister uses French onion dip instead of sour cream. Personally, I'm not a big fan because I prefer the simple taste of butter and potatoes, but the rest of the family loves it.

OMG....Made this tonight & it is incredible. I am an excellent cook & love food so I try to make alot of different varieties of foods. My husband said this is restaurant quality, definitely something you would expect from an old school diner. Definitely one of the best meals I have made. Old fashioned comfort food at its finest. You definitely know how to season your food perfectly. I could tell it was going to be amazing the moment the hamburger steaks hit the skillet & started sizzling & the fabulous aroma hit my nose. I made this a couple of days ago. I followed the recipe pretty closely. I didn't have Lipton's Onion Soup mix so I made my own. I made the burger patties ahead of time and then finished it all about 30 minutes before dinner. It was delicious. Great comfort food for cold weather.
I love me some hamburger steak and mashed potatoes and have cooked it in a very similar way, but, for some unknown reason I never thought about adding mushrooms--and I LOVE mushrooms, so I followed your recipe and DANG, it turned out "slap yo GRAMMA good"! TY for sharing with us! OH, and the Onion Soup mix DID add that extra slap that brought me up to grandma instead of mom!

Your recipe is delicious! I made it tonight for dinner and loved it. I blended up french fried onions and used that in place of the bread crumbs and onion mix . The meat came out super tender and flavorful. 10 out of 10 meal!
