The W212 E-Class is one of the best Mercedes-Benz Cars Ever

  • Welcome to another useful video! In today's episode, we're going to be discussing why the 2010 through 2016 w212 E-class. Is it one of the best Mercedes Benz vehicles ever made? To prove our point we have an absolutely stunning Dolemite Brown over Chestnut leather E350 4matic to look over.
    Before we discuss this E-class in detail further, let's talk about its predecessors. Specifically the W210 eClass built from 1996 through 2002 and the w211 E-class built from 2003 to 2009.
    This particular E-class is the facelifted version which was available from 2014 through 2016 in the United States. At the time of it's released, it was the most expensive mid-cycle refresh ever, custom Mercedes Benz a cool 1 billion euros. Some might say that it's hard to decipher what that 1 billion dollars went to. However, the styling is quite different than prefacelift models which were offered from 2010 through 2013.
    Prior to the w212, previous Mercedes E-Class models designed and built with cost cutting measures in mind. While this helped maximize profits for Daimler, it didn't do any favors for the overall reliability of its vehicles. Therefore, the w212 was built to achieve a high level of reliability.
    There were other changes as well, which included revised side skirts, front and rear bumper designs, Jewel like LED taillights, and revised headlights that were now single piece units instead of the double pod units of the prefacelift models. There were two different versions within the range - a luxury and a sport model. The sport model featured in a prominent front grill with an inlaid Mercedes-Benz logo. This inlaid Grill on the sport version was the first time Mercedes offered the E-Class without a standing star on the hood.
    One reason why the w212 E-class is the best Mercedes ever produced comes down to its attention to detail and Mercedes renewed commitment to reliability and quality of components used.
    This is evident from the moment that you look at it. The paint has a high luster and sheen, the body panel gaps are very small, the sheet metal feels thick and substantial, and everything you touch feels very solid. Mercedes restrained styling ethos, while admittingly not for everyone, is present here. There are certainly classy touches here. Take for example the line running down the fender to the rear gas cap. It's elegant.

    Owner of a 2015 E350 Sport 4Matic here. I absolutely love driving the car. The highway is where it shines, but it is quiet, handles well for its size, and the suspension in stock form isn’t too rough. In the 15k+ miles i’ve put on it, I only had one minor issue where I had to replace a destroyed plastic boot on one of the front axles (4Matic), but everything else has been only for maintenance. I have had no issues whatsoever with the car itself. The only option I wish it had was the adaptive LED light system but the standard headlights work better than many upgraded headlights from other manufacturers. If anyone is thinking about buying a W212, especially the 2014-16 facelift, don’t think twice and just do it! You will not regret it.

    • @visionariable
      @visionariable Před 26 dny +1

      @@iamjshep3It’s tough to say exact, it all depends on how much driving you do and where you live. Also, how well the previous owner took care of the car is a huge factor. When I owned the car I put 7-9k miles per year and live in FL so the car was not abused or in rough conditions at all. All maintenance I basically did early since I never hit the factory 10k mile interval. Found a great shop specializing in Mercedes, only charged me about $140 for Service A and about $350-500 for Service B depending on what needed to be done. A friend hooked up OEM front and rear pads including labor at $400. That’s all I really ever did runnings-costs wise, only oil changes, filter replacements, and the occasional fluid flushes of different components

      I agree! Looking at both the pre-facelift and facelift today, kinda makes the pre-facelift look newer and more luxurious than the VERY expensive 2013 facelift. If you want a mean/muscle look, get a new GTR or GTC next to your pre-facelift E-class. Its almost like having a good pair of dance/church/work shoes, but also having a pair of good running shoes aswell.

      I actually bought my facelift E because my sons didn't like the pre facelift version. To me, both were beautiful. The pre facelift is the most Mercedes like. The facelift definetely bends towards the AMG look which all Mercs have today. Mercedes needed to attract a younger audience for this type and I think it worked. Sadly enough, the limo feel gave way to the sports sedan. I recently drove a W210 (+500.000 km) and I must say that the comfort of that car was way better then mine.

      @FZERO20 Před 8 měsíci +2

      @@popshaines5492 great question! I used to do convertible tops on these cars especially the 211/212 like you mentioned. As far as longevity in my opinion, not long. The string used to operate the top when it’s on motion tend to weather and snap as they age. I remember back when that model came out if you had ELW coverage you got it done for free but as far as upfront costs from the customer, I think the price ranges from $900-$1400. I could be wrong, but the labour pays up to around 8 hours and the top itself is expensive. You can still drive the car without using the top so it’s up to your discretion. Hopefully it just doesn’t leak😂

    The W124 series, built between 1985 and 1995 has that reputation, and I can vouch for that. I live in Colombia and 2 years ago I bought a 1993 W124 E320 which has now done 105,000 miles as it was originally sold new in the US. I paid the equivalent of USD6,600 at the time. Apart from some deferred maintenance issues, it is proving to be the best Mercedes I have owned. It is the last of the non-computer Mercedes - a big plus in my mind!
    Prior to this, I owned a total of 6 older Mercedes in New Zealand between 1978 and 2008. The first was a 1963 220Sb which I owned for 10 years. I wish I still owned all of these pre-computer cars. They were wonderful.

      THE KING I have an 11 E350, I like it but I wished I’d gotten the E550. My 350 is a little slow for my driving style and i wish I had the air ride. My E has been basically trouble free except for a nagging a/c issue, since I’ve owned the car the last 5 yrs the a/c would just start blowing full heat thru the vents in the summer. My sorry dealer told me it needed a new compressor but in June my Indy mechanic looked at and said it was a sensor, $150 to purchase $50 to put on, compressor $2k. The car has 156k miles on it and going strong. The car has stacked tires so I go thru rear tires about every 20k mikes. I had an e46 but the e drives nothing like it. I had continentals on it initially but switches to Michelin, softer and quieter ride. Next car will be a benz, probably E450 had one as loaned and liked it and also had an e350 it was slow didn’t like it. I forgot to add that I have a CLS 550, totally different animal than the E350. It too has been reliable without breaking the bank.

    That was a great video. Very accurate and on point. I own a 2014 E550 and agree with all of the general comments made by the reviewer. One issue I experienced at 65,000 miles was a “leaking” main wiring loom. It’s a problem that previous generations have suffered and it seems to have made it into this generation of E-class also. Basically it’s blood poisoning for the car. Had to replace the loom, ECU and a bunch of other items. Cost $7.5k at the dealership. My car also suffers from the unfortunate faded burl walnut. There is a class action lawsuit for that now. If buying a used one I’d go for a V6 like this. The V8 is really lovely and has bags of ample power but that V8 is wedged under that hood. Nightmare for DIYers to work on and even the technicians at MB complain about lack of access. The technician that worked on my car was an older guy. I asked him what he thought was the most reliable Eclass built in recent times. He said the the outgoing W211 was trouble free (2008-2009). He said “all the bugs were finally worked out”😂. That last w211 facelift is actually my favourite E-Class. But we all have our favourites. Thanks again.

    I bought a 2012 W212 E350 about 6 weeks ago. I already had an M4, which my wife hates. We were going on holiday in the car so I bought the E350 with 108k miles. It was very cheap and is in absolutely amazing condition. There were a couple of minor bits of body damage, which I have had fixed. It now looks more like it’s done 30k miles. The interior is almost perfect.
    My wife loves it and it was a great car to take on a recent driving holiday with loads of space in the boot and storage in the cabin.
    It’s nowhere near as much fun to drive as my M4 but it’s way more comfortable and practical and it meets with my wife’s approval so it was an absolute bargain.
