I had e350 2010 bought it 000 km
and now it has almost 400k km and still no repairs, maintenance is important and simple
But when u come to buy a used one, its gamble you don’t know how the previous owner took care of it

Only buy a Mercedes if you love to drive, love automotive perfection, can afford one, and can afford the repairs. They are some of the best cars on the road, don’t require more maintenance than most cars, and are reliable if maintained properly. When work needs to be done, it’s going to cost more than a typical car, but if you can afford it, it’s worth it.
Totally agree. I work on my own Mercedes and it's quite rewarding and saves me loads of money by doing it myself. Whenever you do a minor service, do something extra like flush the brake fluid etc.
100% in agreement. And frankly, if you build a relationship with an independent German automotive expert, maintenance costs the same as any Toyota/Lexus or Nissan/Infiniti because I’ve owned them all. And Mercedes-Benz is still the best. Lexus IS close but just is not the same...
What SUV would you recommend ? Turbo or no? Might need to get 2019 and less for naturally aspirated engine

The problem is people buying old expensive cars, and then forget that the car needs maintenance of a expensive car.
@Andy B usually who has the capital to buy a car of 100k or more (except for the purchase under leasing), buys the car new, and uses it for 4 to 5 years when the car has not yet devalued a lot, ending up selling it and buying another new one. Without suffering the heavy maintenance that starts to appear on the car.
Rog, old expensive cars cost more to maintain than new because more things are wearing out.
@bagariddum these new cars have too much sensors and emissions stuff that can go bad. And full of plastic stuff. That's why the used market seems to getting full of "old new cars".
@@RogerM88 you do realize that after 5 years those things are pretty much worthless right. They're just status symbols and the people that buy them can afford to trade up every year or so.
@@RCproject18 5 years worthless? I'm talking about the "typical" people that buys the car new, out of the showroom. People that change the car every year, usually use leasing.
I really like this advice more than just calling them 'endless money pits'. I appreciate the cautious advice and properly explaining to people that Mercedes are complex and usually not cheap to maintain so you have to be prepared. Keep up the good work Scotty.

I’ve had 3 and no problems. A 2000 C230k , a 2012 Glk 350 and a 2012 C300. I’ve never had a bit of trouble with any of them. I have them serviced at a place called Star Mercedes in Charleston, SC. I do the scheduled maintenance on time, every time. One had 200k , one 90k and now 80k in the latest. Never once had an issue.
Mercedes is like a beautiful mistress. Doesn't come cheap.
Yeah something ppl tend to forget about german cars is that if youbuy an expensive car with a lot of options of course its gonna break easier
I’m German, and even I know German car’s are junk. The Japanese car’s are much cheaper, and 10 times more reliable. “ German engineering” is just marketing, for the rest of the world outside of Germany 🤫🤫🤫 😄

Vlkn Grt Interesting. Do you know why that is? I assumed that no matter where they sell Hondas (or Toyotas), they are generally reliable cars. What seems to be the issue with Hondas in Turkey?

Number 1 thing to do before buying a Mercedes is to check the VIN and see whether its a 94 Celica or a turbocharger.

PS: they are made to drive like a dream. My father had w221 S500 in 2011. That was fantastic car and he was very happy. Very good comfort, especially for long trips which he did all the time.
@@denysivanov3364 ya they are good cars when they are under warranty because as soon as they aren't you are in a world of hurt with the extortionate amounts it costs to replace plastic parts. Iv owned Mercedes before and let me tell you for a fact most comfortable car I've sat inside but give you a list as long as my arm with electronical problems, air flow meter went, never shifted right and it only had 70k miles, they are junkers

I’ve bought two Mercedes Benz and they have been good to me. Started with a C300 and I totaled it. Nothing happened to my family and I, well built vehicle so I bought another one a CLS550. If you maintain it like it’s supposed to be it will last a long time without any problems. Just like any car would. Don’t buy it if you can’t keep up with the maintenance and premium fuel.
Love how he's not saying anything bad about the engines or transmissions.... they're known to make good engines and transmissions. It's the electronics and suspension that are the vehicles weaknesses

I learned this lesson the hard way. The 2nd happiest day of my life was buying a Mercedes. The happiest was day of my life was when I sold it for half of what I paid for it!

The Lexus is a very good car I can’t complain I’ve had a couple of them but they’re not a Mercedes-Benz. And I know people are going to say they hate Mercedes really hate this really hate that but Mercedes build a damn good car. As does Lexus.

I’ve owned many mercedes and they have been reliable and durable...however, maintenance is complex and more expensive. You need a good independent Mercedes specialist. They’re out there, you’ve really got to find a good one.
or better still , do it yourself..spend a few dollars on some tools and you can learn everything you need on the internet..

@@casimirobuenabista No ,,all you need are some metric spanners ,E torx sockets and torx bits, hex bits , 17mm offset spanner , brake pressure bleeder , trans,dipstick,torque wrench , floor jack ,stands and you're good to go. Less than $1000.. Maintenance does not need codes to be read or cleared .I have owned 4 Mercs , all pre 2006 ,,and I have never been to the dealer or workshop once ,all are running perfectly.
I am on my second Mercedes E-Class and I just love them. The first was a 1998 E280 (W210 chasis) Bought it with 80K miles on the clock, I had it for 9 years. The one I have now is a 2006 E280 (W211 Facelift ), bought it with 75K on the clock for £4,300. I am just moving into my 3rd year with it and it is such a lot of fun to drive. Both have been very reliable. The only things I have had to fix are is the MAF sensor on the first car and the MAF sensor and Solenoids on the second car. Both easy DIY jobs. + some suspension bushes on the second car that I got an Indie garage to sort out.

It's not that bad, I own a CLS 500, do my own maintenence, recently changed the SBC pump (used) for 300 euros, more or less the same in dollars, I have my own diagnostics tool, was like 400 bucks. Definitely more difficult to work on then some other brands, but not as crazy as you make it sound. If you are mechanically inclined and know how to use google, find cheaper parts than it's really not that bad. CLS drives like dream, feels very luxurious, and when you put your foot down, it's all smiles. Can't get that on an old Toyota, in fact, I've driven many old Toyotas, and to be fair, it feels like driving a trashcan.
People that hate on Mercedes or just poor people that can’t afford them or three people that can’t afford to properly maintain them. Absolutely nothing drives like a high-end Mercedes

Haha! That is so true! After buying my e320 I got a laptop with das installed. All the scanning i do myself. 2nd thing i bought was fluid extractor (oil changes transmission 4 liter change at least). I gotta say is more comfortable and quiet than my other friends cars (10 years newer). I'm glad mine doesn't have the airmatic option. 4 yrs still driving smooth!

E320 is reliable and nice. Not too complex. I owned for a while. Honda Civic has broken down much more than e320. Scotty killer is not always right.

tasos vougiatzis Awesome! I have 2 w212 e350's. Ones a 2013 and the other is a 2010. I first bought a BMW because I have a few BMW's from the 80's and they're great cars, the engines are bulletproof. So I decided to buy a 2013 BMW 328i coupe with the 6 cylinder. 2 weeks after owning it the thing already wouldn't start LOL. Took it to the dealer and it needed $3,000 worth of work right out of the gate. Oil was leaking into the wiring harness causing everything to short out. To make a long story short, I canceled the finance deal and gave the car back to the dealer and bought a 2013 Mercedes e350. It's been a great car so far, 85,000 miles trouble free. You can tell just by the interior and the way the car feels it's much higher quality than the BMW. So then I ran across a deal on a 2010 e350 with only 35,000 miles that was highly optioned with the AMG package so I scooped that up as well. Moral of the story, New BMW's are garbage. I heard some rumors from the inside that BMW is actually wanting to sell off the company because the family that owns it doesn't want to deal with it anymore. Hopefully whatever company buys it will turn it around because right now, Mercedes is walking all over them in terms of quality.

dad bought a toyota truck, it was an endless money pit that stayed in the shop so much within the first 3 months that he ended up driving to a FORD DEALERSHIP TO TRADE IT IN FOR A FORD. HE HATES FORD, BUT THAT'S HOW MAD HE WAS AT THE TRUCK. Luckily they had a nissan frontier there that he ended up with, muchhhh happier.

I love my car it's a 2003 c240 mercedes. It's been pretty ok for how long I've had it. It was built in germany. Its 16 years old and it still turns on for me every morning.

I got my 2008 c350 a year ago when I was 16 and it’s got 200k miles. Love it. All I’ve done is regular maintenance and it really does drive like a dream.

I have a 2013 C250 coupe with 56k miles. Great car and so far trouble free. Very simple to operate without the complicated transmission shifters or touch sensitive components. And it was made in Stuttgart Germany (I checked the sticker - thanks Scotty!).

A friend of a friend's father was driving his daughter's Mercedes while she was out of town. Every time he started the car there was some type of warning message. He didn't know what it was and ignored it as the car still worked fine. After a number of these messages the car would no longer start. He ended up having to tow it to the dealership. Problem - the warning message was about changing the oil, and once the predetermined mileage had registered, the engine automatically shut down. Crazy. Time to build basic cars at reasonable prices for the masses. Think of the resources and energy wasted manufacturing all this crap.
I love my E350 it's the most comfortable and effortless car ive ever driven

@The Legend of Texas Why would you buy an old benz when you get just get a modern Lexus? Old Benz was a great car for it's time but its safety and speed is not suitable for modern roads unless you don't care too much about your life.
@@angrysocialjusticewarrior I have a yr 2000 E55 AMG I brought in 2005 with 71,000 miles and now I only have 98,500 miles on it, I drive the hell outta my 2002 maxima but the Benz only needed oxygen sensor, 1,300 dollar tune up and oil, and window regulator, you think it a trouble car.

Always fun to watch your videos. If nothing else, you make me laugh a little. I had a 15 years old E200 until September last year. And trust me it drove like a dream. 90,000 on the clock when I bought it and 150,000 when I sold it. No issues, just regular service and maintenance and that's that. Besides, tell me which car has no issues, 15 years or newer?
In the past 15 years I have owned 3 E series ranging in years '97 to 01 and they have been extremely reliable with very basic maintenance.
What do you think of the S550s? I’ve had 2 Mercedes but not that one and I’m thinking of buying an S550 I love how they ride and look

I Only owned 1 E Class so far(w211) and the thing has been solid as a tank. no issues at all other than the basics.
I have a Mercedes Benz 2010 E350. Car never gave problems, and it runs as smooth as it did in November 2009. Respectfully disagree with Scottie
if it has pneumatic suspension, it will need to be replaced around 10 years.

Have a 14 c350 bought it from the auction with 30k miles on it. lady that owned it got the maintenance done on it like it was supposed to and about to hit 80k on it lol. No problems lmao
I think as long as you take good care of it, it will last a lot longer. I owned 06 CLK350, over 110k miles. The only issue I had was bad secondary air pump. It popped up checking engine light and failed the stupid emission test. I spent 250 dollars to change a new OEM one. I still think it is a good car. Extremely smooth and quiet ride.

I own a MB SL55 AMG (2003/580 bhp) for years now, when you give it attention and regular service by a qualified engineer, you can drive it for years without problems. I use it only in weekends and for road-trips. For daily use I have a MB E300 diesel (2017).

My mom drives a 2006 mercedes e class (w211, 220cdi) and it currently has just shy over 400000 miles on it and was dead reliable so far. She owned since it had 12000 miles on it and it never let her stranded. Same story with my brother‘s 2005 w211, which has about 250000 miles on the clock.
I mean sure you have to do basic maintenance things like breaks and stuff, but you might as well go to an independent dealer ones your warranty expires, since there are no collector cars and if you have a good mechanic or do the work yourself, they aren’t expensive to own. One tip for all of you looking to buy a mid 2000s mercedes: don’t choose the airmatic suspension or the abc suspension, as these kinds of suspensions all get weak not because of the mileage, but because of the age and it is expensive to maintain these systems cost effectively, that’s where scotty is right.

I remember one of my aunts bought a Mercedes a while back & when she saw how much it cost her to replace the muffler she got rid of it lol. The beauty & tech is EXTREMELY tempting but it will break the pockets of a person who can't really afford that luxory. God bless what you do.

So as an owner of 2 AMG MBs built in the past 4 years and somebody that has taken a tour of the MB production facility in Alabama, I can say without a doubt, where the car is built means nothing. The facility in Alabama is an exact replica of the facility in Germany. SAME EXACT LAYOUT from top to bottom and they have been building MBs for over 20 years in that plant. Also the majority of the workers there are from Germany, at least the ones that do important vehicle related jobs and management are... AMG engines are shipped in from Affalterbach, Germany to be mated with the built vehicle chassis at plant locations.

Anyway, I am about to graduate college for Software Engineering and I just am still stunned everytime I watch people dig into the Software on one of these cars because even for me, the engineering is innnsanneeee and blows my mind to think about it. I've been to the factory in Graz Austria where the G-Wagon is built. When you see some of the level of detail involved in it's design then you can begin to appreciate the cost. The frame was sealed and pressurized with a rust preservative, and then rotated/tilted on a large fixture to ensure the preservative/wax reached every nook and cranny.
And then on top of that perfectly engineered and manufactured frame they install hundreds of electronics modules and kilometers of wiring...

The 124s were the last reliable Mercedes My neighbour’s got a ‘93 E 260 with only 11K on it. She won’t sell it to me. Her beater is a C250.

I had a MB 240D in the 80's that was when quality and user friendliness were still around...
I just bought a W123 and I'm in love with it.
I have a 2016 S550 with 90000 miles, no major issues and so far , nothing I haven't been able to fix myself. Love this car.

I’m not sure why people always complain about the cost of maintenance for Mercedes. I have a 2009 c300 4matic sport. The entire time I have owned it I have spent just under $3,000 (I keep all records). My car has 143k on it and the car drives like new, looks good, no scratches or rips in anything. It’s the best car I have ever owned and it’s literally better in the snow than my partners jeep. If you take care of your car it will last a long time. A friend of mine has the same car as me with over 300k on it. Mine was made in Germany.

I changed out the rear air suspension on my Mercedes CLS 550. It cost me $600 in parts with a lifetime warranty. Took me about 4 hours. Saved big money doing the work myself. IF YOU WORK ON YOUR MERCEDES YOURSELF YOU WILL SAVE A FORTUNE. Don't be afraid! I started out with no tools or knowledge. Now i do everything myself. Im doing brakes next week for $350 in parts. Dealer quoted me $1500. Lol

jbs36 That also happen here in the Philippines since Mercs here are made in Germany. The roads here are even worse and they can last 13 years on the road with a little care. A typical Toyota here can last 5 years before it falls apart.

Scotty, the rebuilt air shocks are super, and are a fraction of the OEM Air Shocks. My giant S550 4-MATIC is flawless and runs so well with 132000 miles. With 382 hp, and no turbo the car is super. BTW, I’m 74, in great health and K love the car. Oh yes, it was made in Stuttgart to. Dave in Phoenix Arizona USA.

I bought a 1999 CLK430, 20 year old car in great condition and I’m glad to know it’s from Stuttgart.
I bought a 13' C250 AMG-line in 2017 as the 2nd owner. Its now 2022 and the car has been faultless, i have driven it hard and went to its limits however she still runs like a dream. The only issue that recently occured was a fault in the parking sensors. But over my 5 year ownership i cannot complain. It all comes down to how you look after your car. If you want a mercedes go for it, just find a well looked after and maintained example.
I have driven a Benz for 2 months. Then I rented a new F250 from Home Depot.
The difference is mind blowing!
I'm Italian and German and I will tell you that I agree with Scotty that we Germans know how to make an engine that will last but everything else is absolute garbage

So all we have to do is buy a Mercedes that doesn't have Senso- tronic brake control and/or Active Body Control...I've had four C and CLK 's and have never had to repair anything,,, just routine maintenance,,,very well engineered cars..actually can be economical to run, beautiful to drive and very safe as well.

Same here Cs and MLs though... the only thing out of the norm that I had go out was the super charger on my Kompressor. Car was 15 years old though and due to have something major go wrong.
Not a difficult car to DIY either...they are Mercedes ,,but they are based on the same engineering as Scotty's Toyota.

Is he wrong??? I have a Lexus CTh and 70,000 miles later I’m still get 44mpg & no mechanical issues whatsoever *knock on wood. A Mercedes is not a trouble free vehicle nor a cheap vehicle to maintain. And that’s where I’m no longer their target customer

Own a w212 pre-race lift that's done 166k miles. Only thing I replaced apart from regular maintenance where the battery and the water pump and a oxygen sensor. Very solid car
