This is how I understood it: she left for Paris because she needed to "run away" as her mom said, and reinvent herself, or find another version of herself in which she could live with her grief after losing her child. The entire point of the movie is that the death of her child is so painful that she can no longer be the same person she was before, or she won't survive. She literally needs to go and become some other version of herself in order to go on living. The beauty of the ending (for me) is that Connor finally understands this and lets her go, which is something he is incapable of doing throughout both films. He holds on to her because he's afraid of losing her, too. But at the end he realizes this is something he can't control and something he needs to let her do, and also because he, himself, needs to deal with his own unresolved grief and get his life back on track (hence, taking over his father's restaurant and embracing success). I think him letting her go and her actually leaving is the ultimate trial for their love, and they succeed in passing it. She could've stayed in Paris, but she didn't, she came back. And now they're ready to start over again. It doesn't end in a traditional way (with a kiss and an "I'll never leave you" kind of line) because I think we're meant to infer that they DID in fact, make it. We already saw them go through the worst part, now they're at the other side. I don't think the "Hey" at the end of Her was imaginary at all. I think we just get to see it in that movie because wether they make it or not is up to Eleanor. She's the one who has to make the decision to come back. She's the one who has to make the decision to call out for him. Because he already made where he stands clear. He wants her. But does she want him back after everything that's happened? I think that's why it's appropriate that the answer to the question is at the end of Her.
I have read in some place that the idea of her walking after him in the same track could mean that, despite of the fact that she come back... They never get together
I have to say that I like all the characters in the films James plays. Every time I watch, I can't take my eyes off him. James is one of the few actors that I have been deeply impressed with. I never miss any of his films. Oh my gosh, I love him! I really do!
She is slow. She can't get out from her grief fast. But he is not. He already got out and wanna restart with her. So he tried to drag her by his side and walk with her. But she couldn't follow. She needs some time. And he makes a room for her and he goes on own load. And now she is coming behind him to walk with him side by side and to restarts. And he knows it (i guess), but not drag her this time. Just walk on his way, and someday she might be with him. -I'm asian, poor english...
That's such a beautiful explaining. That's why they kept the ending ambiguous, so people can put anything according to their understanding. But i love your version the most.
There was a very large Onion in my room as I was watching this ...... even with all the windows opened .... that damn Onion had me tearing up. I really liked this movie a lot ..... it's healthy to have a Onion in the room every now and then.

I finished watching this film right now on Amazon Prime Japan. The ending is different and I was surprised. The one I saw was Eleanor’s perspective as she follows a guy in white shirt. We did not know who but she eventually called out “Hey!!,” and the guy stopped in a strange way like was shocked. So I suspected it was him but was not sure so I came to CZcams to figure out the ending. 😊 So there are 2 endings but the same result that she came back to him at last…
i don't get it in her version, she says "hey" and he turns around. So for me, they kinda met again and probably got back together but in him and them she jusy keep walking but they walk together her knowing that she is stalking him but him not knowing, so to me it's either a sing they really are meat for each other or i just don't get it. But i think it's her coming back bc her hair are gown back a little bit and he has his father's restaurant.
Maybe in her version, she imagined the "Hey" part, like "what if I call him?" something like that, but in the end she didn't, she just kept stalking him, because that what happens in Him and Them.

at the end of the film she travels to Paris but the plane crashed and when he knew committed suicide successful. This is my end because I hate things unfinished. Imagine the story the way I prefer already do this every day before bedtime.
No way! Imagine she gave birth to another baby. And she goes to tell him that. But she doesn't have the courage b'cos she hide the pregnancy. You know,they made love b4 she went to Paris. That is my perfect happy ending. They both deserve it!
