  • Made by the U.S. Navy at the height of the Cold War, this film observes current Soviet naval forces and attempts to assess their global reach and strategy. By this time, the Soviets had achieved the world's largest submarine force, and supplemented it with state-of-the-art anti-submarine weapons including the helicopter aircraft carrier Moskva, which is shown in the film. Also shown are various other vessels, including Russian PT boats, Kashin class guided-missile destroyers, and Soviet nuclear submarines capable of firing nuclear ballistic missiles. A brief history of the Soviet navy is presented under Lenin, Stalin and Kruschev, and its aims assessed. The film notes that the current Soviet navy must be assessed not only in terms of warships, but for its omnipresence throughout the world in the form of the fishing fleet (used to gather intelligence) and merchant marine. Shown in the film are Soviet cruise ships, oceanographic research vessels and submarines, nuclear submarines, and ice breakers. Also shown is footage of Stalin, Lenin, Red Square, the 50th Anniversary of the Russian Revolution parade in Moscow, and more.

You know this video shows not only the Soviet Union naval power and strategy but shows the Russian culture, their way of life and their traditions during the cold war.

No, this film was entirely propaganda. It's well made and has the veneer of factual balance, but it's primary aim would have been to encourage funding for the Pentagon. At the time, with very high levels of background fear and paranoia, the reported gains of the Soviet fleet would have been quite concerning.

in 1992 when the USSR went broke many navy ships just sat in dock as they had no money to pay for fuel let alone the sailors, many seaman and officers simply abandoned their posts, those officers that did stay went for months on end without getting paid and lived on those ships. many ships were eventually scrapped.

No, it was controlled destruction. The east block was too rich. But the government was putted down by citizens. So only in capitalism you can steal money and show up how rich you are. For that those people in government changed political system and they keep the best money making companies. The rest the let to destroy. The reason of east block collapse was cutting supply chains. Connection between companies. In few months after that people didn’t get salary and everything was destroyed in 6-12 months.
This is why China government kill those politicians who want to destroy their country.

I find it very pointed that many old videos that show some countries in a historic light they would rather forget, either remove their videos themselves or are taken off by you tube.Might i suggest that rather than keep the old "Reds under the bed" atitude going, years after the fall of the soviet union, that these sort of videos only serve to portay the naratives of America who cannot bury the hatchet other than in the back of the heads of the population of the Federation of Russia which it is now called.
Russia now has the same problems that face the rest of the world and to date have indicated so.
The western world totally ignores the fact that Russia has saidvtime and time again , and not only said it, but have proved it.
At the end of the last war it was America along with its allies who sat down at Yelta and agreed that if Russia did not make any moves to stray into any Part of Europe, that no NATO country would move one inch from their current position..
We now find the country who was making the most noise about Russia has itself done the very thing it agreed and signed NOT to do, it has not moved an inch, it has moved thousands of miles to the point where there are few countries left that have not got a missile base or base of some sort in everyone elses back yard, yet it still waves the bigbstick and makes all sorts of reasons why it should be allowed to continue its outrght lie about Russia.
Russia has said very openly that it does not want any part of war ever again, but it does draw the line at anyone who tries to enter Russia.
There is a huge difference that the world should wake up to, Russia is within its own boarders and stays within its boarders, but has to look at facts, the facts are that sitting right on the Russian boarder is America, not the countries that actually live there, they pose no threat, it is their homeland, where as America does have boarders, and the last time i looked one was the atlantic ocean and the other is the percific ocean
Not Poland, not Hungury, not Germany, America is there for one reason only, to threaten Russia, and to do so with no provication by Russia.
The real truth is that America wants to be the big boss and everyone do as they say, tge but they dont like is a country big enough and strong enough to say NO to the instructions thrown about by America, their objection is to the fact that they cannot tell Russia what to do, and that is in theveyes of America reason enough to make Russia of today the enermy the soviet union posed to be when it was the soviet union.
This living on the past is the very thing that America uses to threaten the world via Russia with ww3.
Russia has done nothing at all to America, and the only time Russia stood up and said enough is enough, you put missiles in Turkey and we will set up a base in Cuba, and just think back to just how quickly America marched towards ww3 then, most of the world is un aware that this was the cause, and it ended the moment America took its missiles out of Turkey, only to put them back years later, showing just how much they learn from their own mistakes.
America has made itself rich on oil, which is why they want a strangle hold on the middle east, they want control over what is in the middleveast and will do what it takes, regardless of the legality of their actions, as we have seen in Iraq, Iran, Lybia, Afganistan, even trying to force Greenland to sell
Their country to America because there is oil there, these are facts not fiction and the world should take notice, and say No, a big No, No No.
Back of America and go home and take your warfare with you.

Zero of 1st rank surface combatants been commissioned, such as DDG, CG or BCG, not speaking of CV and CVN. While US navy, since 2009, commissioned 13 DDG and 1 CVN.
